Would it be a problem if I bring my dslr camera to a Knicks game?

Q. For my boyfriend bday present, I bought tickets to a Knicks game this upcoming week. We're not from NY so we gonna take the train there pretty early just to enjoy New York. I want to bring my camera obviously to take pics of the city. But I'm not sure if it'll be okay to bring my camera with me to the game. I have no where to leave it if cant. So for anyone who ACTUALLY went to a Knicks game at Madison Square Garden is it a big deal? Just wondering nothing sarcastic pleaseee.

A. From the MSG website:

"Cameras and Recording Devices

Video cameras, monopods, tripods, audio recording devices and cameras with telephoto or zoom lenses are not permitted inside MSG at any time. This policy will be strictly enforced. You may bring in a disposable or 35mm (with no zoom or telephoto lens) camera, however, for some events, cameras of any type and/or flash photography may be prohibited."

EDIT: I live in New York. I go to a lot of Knicks games. I don't know what kind of camera you're referring to, but if it's one that resembles something like this:

http://justdigitalcamera.files.wordpress.com/2012/08/nikon-d90-digital-camera.jpg?w=490&h=367

Then yeah, you cannot bring it inside. However, I always sneak in my digital camera. It's one of those that don't have the big protruding thingy, and it can fit right in my pocket. If you can't bring your camera, there are places in the city where you can rent a locker for a few hours and you can leave your camera in there.

Have fun!

What is a good camera to use for youtube?
Q. I want a high definition camcorder like the one macbarbie07 and ilikeweylie use.... I just don't know what kind to buy, PLEASE HELP! winner gets 10 pts.

A. Canon PowerShot A1300 16.0 MP Digital Camera with 5x Digital Image Stabilized Zoom 28mm Wide-Angle Lens with 720p HD Video Recording Great camera for the price. Purchased the camera in May 2012 to shoot family events, friends ect. You could not ask for a better price vs performance camera. Very simple to use, excellent picture and video quality. I would suggest getting a cushioned camera case that includes the USB thumb drive reader for $10, the case is perfect for travel and storage when not in use. The USB reader is a great option when offloading the memory card.

What's the best budget/business user digital camera for video blogging?

Q. I'm looking to buy a digital camera. I'm a novice at best, but want something with professional looking photos and a good video recording capability (Audio is a must also.) What are your recommendations?
I'm leaning towards the Canon PowerShot Elph 300 HS. Thanks in advance!

A. The Canon 300 HS is a fine choice. If you like it, then stick with it. I'd also suggest going to a nearby camera/electronic store to try out some for yourself though.

How do I use a digital camera as a web cam on my pc?
Q. I have a good digital camera, that is able to video record. I also have a way to hook it up to my pc and transfer pic & vids to my files. I would like to use this camera as a web cam, my old one is pretty cheap & doesn't work so well. Does any one know how to hook up a digital camera as a web cam?

A. I really don't think you are able to do this with most modern digital cameras. The USB connection is used to transfer pics and video between PC and camera, not to stream live video. You can get a descent web cam for around $30 though!
Good Luck =)

How can I improve the sound quality for videos recorded on my digital camera?
Q. Is there something I can buy (such as a microphone) that will give the videos I record on my digital camera a better sound? I recently went to a concert with my new digital camera in tow and when I got home, the videos I had recorded were terrible! You couldn't even hear the singer. I realize concerts will have much more bass than everyday situations, but still, I'd like to have nice videos of concerts. Anyway, thanks for your help!

A. If you think you can sneak a boom mike into a concert, I'd use that, that'll give you the best quality. But you can just use microphones for a some what better quality.

What percentage of people do you think use electronic devices without ever changing default values?

Q. I will bet that over 90% of the people with digital cameras, video cameras, and even cell phones have no idea on how to change any settings. I had a friend who thought his video camera was broken because it would not keep recording when he took his finger off the button. One of his children had changed the setting. How many people with 8 mega pixel cameras leave it at the highest setting and only view pictures on their computer. How many people with satellite tv scan through every channel in the directory because they have no idea you can set favorites. I can go on forever.

A. 80-90% easy. If i had the time, I'd find you a bunch of articles and research that I have read recently about this phenomenon..

basically, when a company is looking to improve a product, they go about surveying and testing what their consumers "want" in a product..

not in context, on a piece of paper.. of course you're going to say, "yeah I want the ability to start my washing machine and defrost my car from my video camera." In practice, of course, no one would ever use such features.. the end result is a junked up consumer interface full of stuff that (while functional) serves little purpose to the common consumer outside of showing off gadgets to your neighbor, good reviews in consumer reports, and bells and whistles for salespeople.

Advice on a decent priced miniature video camera?
Q. My husband is deploying to Afghanistan, I have small children and would like to purchase a set of video cameras so that I can video the kids and and he can video small clips through the day to send us later when he has internet access. Thanks for any advice! Again I would like to reiterate that it needs to be affordable with decent quality! and miniature so it's not a pain to carry around!

A. If you're just looking for "little" clips to send back and forth, then I suggest either a Flip or Bloggie. The Mino series, for Flip, is slim and light weight, and I believe most of them have 720p capabilities. They record for an hour, or so, worth of filming. The Ultra series, for Flip, is a little bulkier, but records for two hours. The Flip features a USB arm, that "flips" out of the camera and allows for data transfer to the computer to allow a user to send video, and such.

The "Bloggie" series, by Sony, is a slim, lightweight camera that allows a user to record video AND takes still pictures (Even while recording video). There are two versions of the "Bloggie" camera that may interest you. The "Bloggie Touch" is the more advanced, and newer, version that released recently. The image capture is rated at 12.8 megapixels, and the recording capability is 1080p (Albeit, the larger the video, the longer it'll take to send. However, you can switch between 1080p, 720p and 200-something, which is a lightweight video). There's an older version of the "Bloggie" that does the same as the touch, but only captures 5 Megapixel still photos, but it's a little cheaper.

The Flip will run you around 120 - 200 dollars, depending on the model you purchase. The Bloggie will run you around 120 - 160, or so, dollars. Both cameras have around a 2 hour recording time, and the only big difference is the quality they record in, and the ability to take stills. Both are great for "pocket cameras."

What would happen if i was caught masturbating on camera?
Q. Today I parked my car at a park in the back of a trailor (broad daylight). I was going to the park to relax and get ready for my shift. Well as usual, I pulled out my phone and sent a few text messages to friends. A couple minutes passed by, I made the worse mistake possible; I viewed an adult site on my phone and became completely aroused. Next thing I know, I'm unzipping my pants, pulled out my penis and start stroking it for a for 5 minute or so. Yes, I reached climax and ejaculated in a cup. Remember that trailor? Well, I looked forward and on top of the back of the trailor, I see a camera. I'm not sure if the camera is recorded 24/7 but if it did, it would see my every move.. I freaked out and my heart was beating fast, so I drove away quickly. If the video get sent out to fbi, what you think would happen? I don't care if it was posted on the internet for a laugh, but I'm scared I would be registered as a sex offender. Yes, the park has children, but I am not sick. I just happened to be very horny. How long should I wait around before l knowing I'm in the clear. I've been thinking about it all day.
Lol, I can't blame you for thinking I'm a troll. But this scenerio was very much real. :(

A. As long as you were not in a public place menacing people then you should be fine. It's public exposure that the police and judges crack down on.

Besides, think about this, what are the chances anyone was even looking or will look at the tape. Cameras are on 24/7. It takes a lot of manpower to sit and review those tapes. If no one in person saw you then I wouldn't worry. The police go after those who are harming others and you harmed no one if no one saw you.

video camera high quality for low price?

Q. I need to find a fairly inexpensive digital video camera.

I will use it to compile sports tape, so it must take good quality video.
I will also use it for 2 school video projects which, mean i need to be able to upload video to the school computers for editing.

What is the best digital video camera i can get for a fairly low price?

A. Ok.. given school, you need to be sure you're getting a camcorder that can work with the school computers. Most will, but for example, if the class isn't video-oriented, they may not have Firewire, which is the standard for all tape-based camcoder transfers to computer.

Without offering a price limit, this is a hard question to in return offer specifics. You can pay serious green for a very good quality camcorder... you can pay under $100 for a "Flip" style web-camcoder. There are dozens of cheap camcorders like this: cheap non-zoom lens, horrible low-light capability, weird recording formats. I can recommend the Flip only because the software is good.. the video is still poor, but they're easy to use. Aipitek, DXP, and many other Chinese flash-card camcorders have similar quality, but no decent software support.

The best deal I've seen lately for a high-def camcoder was a Hitachi Blu-Ray based model (far from the best HD camcorder, but not too bad in bright sunlight) for $299.. but that's over. Usually, you're going to pay $500+ for a high-def camcorder.

Regular consumer camcorders, more likely to be in the $200-$400 range... there are dozens of options, and I don't know what you're looking for well enough to suggest anything. Look at http://www.camcorderinfo.com for reviews and suggestions.

You can get really good standard-def video these days in most modern still photo cameras. Any 640x480 mode is likely to rival the 720x480 mode you get in all standard-def camcorders. My daughter is in a "Communications Academy" in High School, they do video projects all the time. While I've offered a few video camera to her for these things, most of the video she shoots in on her Pentax pocket digital camera (last Christmas' present). I paid about $100 for that camera.

And if this is just for two projects.. borrow something. Even if you think you're going on in video work, rushing to buy something for just one project is usually a formula for disappointment.

I'm looking for a good video camera under $600 to record an instructional DVD, any advice?
Q. I'm looking for a good video camera under $600 to record an instructional DVD. It will be on a tripod, so it's not going to really need the ability to film sports or anything. Just good quality video and color. Any suggestions?
Thank you!

A. Pretty much any camcorder in this price range will provide similar video quality - though personally, I would suggest you stay with miniDV tape based camcorders because miniDV tape - specifically the DV format stored to the tape - does not compress the digital video data as much a a hard disc drive (HDD) or flash memory based camcorder in the same range.

Your biggest issue will be to have good lighting on your side. I think the Panasonic PV-GS320, Sony DCR-HC52 and Canon ZR900 and ZR930 are good candidates. With the GS320 and HC52, you should also include a field recorder for the audio - M-Audio, Zoom, Edirol and others make decent units. This is because the GS-320 and HC52 do not have a mic-jack. You want to get the mic as close as possible to the person speaking - so in this case, that means getting the camcorder close for the built-in mics. When you edit the video, replace the camcorder audio with the audio from the field recorder.

The ZR900 and ZR930 have a mic jack (in addition to their built-in mics), so mic placement does not need to coincide with camcorder placement.

Since you should be editing, a DVD based camcorder immediately drops from the list and should not be considered.

What video camera should I buy to record YouTube videos?
Q. I'm trying to get a video camera that would be good to upload vids to YouTube. Not that expensive, just good quality.

A. HD Camcorders and DSLR Cameras interpolate the video, which means of every 25 frames of video, 4 or 5 frames are taken by the lens assembly; the other frames in between these are filled in by the camcorder inner circuitry, thus giving you not true video. It looks like this -one frame from the lens assembly, 7or 8 from the electronic circuitry, one frame from the lens assembly, 7or 8 from the electronic circuitry, one frame from the lens assembly, 7or 8 from the electronic circuitry, one frame from the lens assembly, 7or 8 from the electronic circuitry, from front to back of the video. Near impossible to edit, even when you have the Multi port processor computer with the big 1GB Graphics card and a Sound card that is required to edit, view, watch and work with the files these camcorders produce.

DSLR Cameras, all Makes, all Models, all have the same problem when video taping some long videos, all overheat at the 13 to 18 minute mark, depending on the Make and Model. This is unavoidable, it all has to with the fact, video is an afterthought in DSLR camera production.

Consumer Level HD Camcorders and DSLR Cameras have 4 problems. 1) Blurry, fuzzy, out of focus areas closely around people in videos taken by consumer level HD camcorders. 2) Any movement, even a wave or lifting an arm, while in front of a recording Consumer Level HD Camcorder and DSLR Cameras, results in screen ghosts and artifacts being left on the video track, following the movement. Makes for bad video, sports videos are unwatchable. 3) These Consumer Level HD Camcorders and DSLR Cameras all have a habit of the transferred to computer files are something you need to convert, thus losing your HD quality, to work with your editing software. 4) Mandatory maximum record times - 1 hour, 30 minutes, 8 minutes, 3 minutes – four different times advertised as maximum record time for some Consumer Level HD Camcorders and DSLR Cameras. No event I have ever been to is that short. Either take multiple camcorders and DSLR Cameras or pack up with out getting the end of the event on video.

MiniDV is currently the most popular format for consumer digital camcorders. MiniDV camcorders are typically more affordable than their HDD and DVD counterparts. Each MiniDV tape will typically hold an hour of footage at normal recording speed and quality. MiniDV tapes are available for purchase at not only electronic and camera stores, but also at drugs stores and grocery stores, making them easy to find while your on vacation. There are literally hundreds of MiniDV camcorders available; both in standard and high-definition. And add the fact that to get a HD camcorder that could produce better video quality footage, one would have to spend in excess of $3500 for that camcorder that could produce higher quality video

Which camera is better, sony a35 or nikon d3100?

Q. i am going to get a camera soon and i don't know weather to get the Nikon D3100 or Sony a35. they both seem really good but i don't know which to choose. help plz :)

A. Nikon, of course, has been in the camera business a very long time. However, Sony isn't as much a newcomer to the camera market as some might have you think. Sony actually invented and sold the world's first non-film based camera - the Sony Mavica of 1981. No, it wasn't a digital camera. It recorded on a floppy disc which was then viewed on your TV. The Sony ProMavica MVC-5000 and MVC-7000 were actually SLR cameras with 3 interchangeable lenses. The MVC-7000 also had lens adapters to allow use of Nikon and Canon lenses. Sony also has a long history of designing and manufacturing cameras for broadcast TV and home video cameras.

Although the Sony SLT A35 is a very good DSLR, the new SLT A65 offers several refinements. It is, however more expensive. The main claim to fame for the SLT series of cameras is the use of Sony's Translucent Mirror Technology (TMT). This technology allows for full-time continuous phase-detect auto focus whether you're shooting still images or full 1080p HD video. The Nikon D3100 does allow for auto focus during video capture but its the slower, less precise contrast-detect auto focus.

TMT also allows you to shoot at 7fps (frames per second) with the A35 and 10fps with the A65. Both models also offer your choice of 2D or 3D Sweep Panorama.

When Sony bought the DSLR technology and manufacturing rights from Konica-Minolta in 2006 they did three smart things: They kept a focusing motor in the camera body, they kept Image Stabilization in the camera body and they kept the Minolta Maxxum "A" lens mount that dates back to 1985. What that means is you have access to a large selection of high quality previously owned Maxxum AF lenses that will auto focus on any Sony DSLR and also be, in effect, an Image Stabilized lens.

Nikon, on the other hand, chose to not put a focusing motor in the body of the D3100 and they also chose to put their version of IS (Nikon calls it VR) in some but not all of their lenses. With the D3100 if you want auto focus you must buy the more expensive AF-S lenses. An example: A Nikon AF 50mm f1.8 prime lens that will not auto focus on the D3100 is about $130.00. The Nikon AF-S 50mm f1.8 prime lens that will auto focus on the D3100 is about $220.00. In my world $90.00 isn't pocket change. Yes, you can use the Nikon AF lenses on the D3100 but only if you don't mind manually focusing them. So, with the D3100 you get to pay again and again for a focusing motor and over and over for IS/VR.

In my opinion, between the Sony SLT A35 and the Nikon D3100 the SLT A35 offers more features and benefits and is the better choice. If you can stretch your budget and wait a few weeks the Sony SLT A65 would be well woth it.

best DSLR camera with video capability?
Q. i heard the nikon d90 has these functions. I am a beginner but I am looking to buy THE best on the market so i dont have to update anytime soon. any suggestions?
please provide links so i can look into them. i much prefer ones recently released (2011)

thanks

A. Lovely question mate. Okay, for me, the best DSLR camera for video is definitely Canon 550D or Kiss X4 or T2i whatever they call it. I love it for its value for the money. It has all the right features I need to capture great videos. The grip is comfortable, it records progressive videos (interlaced video like old Sony Alpha cameras are a nightmare), great prime lens options, full manual control over the exposure and has ample resolution options and frame rates such as these:
- Full HD : 1920x1080p: 30/24 fps (NTSC), 25/24 fps (PAL)
- HD : 1280x720p (HD): 60 fps (NTSC), 50 fps (PAL)
- VGA : 640x480 (SD): 60 fps (NTSC), 50 fps (PAL)

Notice I said prime lenses? It means that the aperture size is constant along the focal length. Zoom lenses change their aperture value when zoomed in or out. The kit lens, 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6, is strange. Let's say you lock exposure at 1/100 shutter speed and f/3.5 when the lens is zoomed out to 18mm. Then during recording you zoom in to 55mm. At this length the lens can only provide you with f/5.6 and then the video mysteriously gets darker. To overcome this I rarely zoom in or out during recording, and I use fixed aperture lenses like a 200mm f/2.8 prime, 50mm f/1.8 prime and some more primes.

My recommendation, get a Canon 550D and then spend more on prime lenses. Oh, don't forget to get a tripod or a steadicam for non shaky videos. Have a good time making movies!

Handheld camera for live gigs?
Q. Looking for a handheld camera for recording video and sound for live gigs, a good example of what results I'm looking for is the quality of this video, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SxjXMpMmRiQ

A. for video quality... this will depend on the lighting...
Luckily for that sample you provided, the lighting guy really knew what he was doing and lit the stage very well. Not every performance will be like that.
Camera suggestions could be any digital camera. Heck, a common iphone could have recorded that with similar video quality.

For audio quality... ... you'll need a camera that will support a mic input.

Best suggestion:
Canon G12
http://www.photographybay.com/2011/01/24/canon-powershot-g12-review/

- features a tilt screen so you can hold the camera high and still see the stage while looking at the screen
- has a hot shoe to put a microphone
- mic imput jack

What is the difference in audio recording quality between tape and hard drive video cameras?
Q. I am searching for a new video camera so I can record live concerts for my band. Audio set up will be 2 condenser mics on an 8 foot boom patched into a single 1/8 inch mic jack on the camera. Would tape or hard drive be a better option to record to as far as quality? I am aware that hard drives hold more data. I am only concerned with audio quality.

A. The recording media (in this case tape vs hard drive) is irrelevent. They are both digital. HDD camcorder compress the vido (and audio) more...

You did not tell us what sort of music. If it is loud, your bigger issue is that hard disc drive camcorders can be impacted by the vibrations from the loud audio to the point of parking the hard drive heads to protect the platters. Neither miniDV tape nor flash memory based camcorders have this vibration issue.

It is also possible that the loud audio - even if it does not shut down the hard drive because of the vibrations - can be loud enough to oversaturate the audio track resulting in a muddy sound - and what seems to be static. This is because the camcorder's auto mic gain can't handle it. This cannot be fixed when editing and will happen with any mic. You need to control the audio gain.

Some consumer Sony camcorders have a "MicRefLevel" setting for "Normal" audio gain and "Low" gain for high volume environments. This is rudimentary, but will work. Better is the more granular manual audio control used by the Canon HV30 or HV40.

Hard drives might be able to hold more TOTAL data, but consumer hard disc drive camcorders generally record to much more highly compressed MPEG2 standard definition or AVCHD/MTS high definition files. Your goal for "better quality" *should* be less compression - not more.

Most decent condenser mics are XLR based. In order for them to be used with a consumer grade camcorder with a 1/8" (3.5mm) stereo audio-in jack, I would suggest using an XLR adapter like one from juicedLink (CX231) or BeachTek (DXA-6). In addition to more granular control of the audio gain, they can also provide phantom power to the condensor mics. Use of XLR-to-1/8" "tails" is not recommended - the jack is too easy to break in the camcorder. The XLR adapters are set up such a way that do not stress the jack/plug as much as those cable tails do. Also, if the mics are on a boom then they are likely to be using a cable longer than about 15 feet - which means you need to use shielded - balanced - cables... which means XLR.

If you insist on going the path with a 1/8" tail, be sure it is to two XLR jacks that provuide you with some left/right audio separation. Again, this is not the recommended path.

You should consider reading up on "X-Y mic placement" at wikipedia for optimizing the stereo separation with the mics you plan to use - or take a look at a RODE stereo mic or the design of the Audio Technica AT-822 or AT-825... or the Shure VP-66. The mic capsules are set up in the X-Y pattern making the mic head housings look fat.

How do I upload a video from my video camera?
Q. I have a Canon DC330 and I just got back from recording my band and I've already downloaded the two cds that it came with. Now I've tried plugging the video camera into the computer and I felt lost. Then I tried just sticking the cd into the computer and I was still clueless. Somebody help me out please!

A. Try the free software from stashspace. It lets you record video directly from your camcorder onto your computer. Then you can stash your video for secure online storage or share your video. Check them out at http://www.stashspace.com

What kind of point and shoot camera has a fast shutter response?
Q. Just what the question says. I'm a person that loves to take pictures, but I don't do it because I can't find a camera that has a fast shutter response. Just to be clear, I'm talking about the time between pressing the button to take the picture and when the picture actually takes. I see the perfect opportunity for photos all the time, but then by the time the picture is actually taken, whatever I'm taking a photo of has moved.

I don't want an SLR because I'm not a photographer and it'd really be just a waist of money. I'm looking for digital point and shoot cameras. I'd also like to have the possibility of HD video recording on the camera but my heart isn't set on it.

A. Shutter lag is caused by the camera's Auto Focus (AF) system and if it's too sluggish, taking photos can be quite frustrating. On cameras that do have problems with shutter lag...the trick to minimize lag is to allow the camera to lock in the focus by half pressing the shutter button, then when focus has been achieved...hold it there till the moment is right, then press the button down fully to take the shot. This allows less missed opportunities, but is still somewhat annoying having to do it all the time.

Luckily, these days you can get compact/point and shoot cameras that have minimal shutter lag, so are very quick to take a picture. This is due to improved processors and much improved AF systems.

In the link below you will see a list of some reviewed camera models. There are many more models that aren't in the list...you would have to see older reviews on the same site. As you can see, the camera up the top of the list takes around 0.15 secs to take one photo. The slowest camera in the list takes around 1.6 secs to take a picture. Times for taking 5 photos and using the flash are also included...
http://www.cameras.co.uk/html/shutter-lag-comparisons.cfm?sort=ShutterLag

Be aware that the fastest compact cameras don't necessarily take the best quality photos...so it's best to read individual reviews before making a decision.

Here are other review pages that include image samples and performance times...

What is the best camera to record video games with that's fairly cheap?

Q. I record some videos for youtube like Monster Hunter Tri hunts and my camera doesnt have great video or sound quality. So I am just seeing if there is a better camera for me to use if anyone knows of one.
My current camera is a HD SONY Bloggie, and the HD barley works....

A. there really isn't a good video camera to record video games. the best thing to do is use a capture card. there is a dazzle dvd recorder that costs like fifty dollars. if you have a HDTV and play on it, you gott a get hd pvr, the best capture card but costs 200 dollars.

How to get good quality when recording games with a Camera?
Q. Well its pretty good quality when i record but it gets weird. Is there a strategy when recording Video Games???

A. The camcorder needs to have the AV-in feature. If it does not have AV-in, there is no cable that can make it have AV-in. Basically, you would need three "Y" cables... one end plugs into the game console (one for video, one for right audio, one for left audio). One end plugs into the TV. One end plugs into the camcorder with AV-in.

Rather than a camcorder, you can use a TV capture card or "analog/digital bridge" (like those from Pinnacle - Dazzle - or Canopus) and connect directly to your computer.

Sony Handy cam HDR-CX150, is there a way to record my video game play?
Q. After watching multiple youtube videos on how to record video games from a camera, I've found one common issue with my camera. I need to fin the av output or input settings. It is possible that the camera itself has no such setting. If so, tell me so I can just give up already.

A. You cannot use your camcorder as a recorder from the AV jacks. You can only record from the lens. To do what most gamers do, get a DVR, hook your game machine that and that to the TV. Record game play, then transfer file from DVR to computer. Use your camcorder, mounted on a tripod to cover your game playing grunts and groans, the do a PIP effect, putting you in the corner of the video. Windows Movie Maker cannot do PIP

how do i burn a dvd while recording live?

Q. I am a college basketball coach. It would be extremely efficient if, after filming the game, we had a finished copy of the game already burnt onto a dvd.

I am trying to skip the step of have two mini-dvds and having to burn them onto a larger disc after the game.

A. This is actually pretty easy.

You will need two things - a dvd recorder and a video camera with an audio/video output.

It will work better if you have the camera on a tripod. Connect the AV output on the camera to the AV input on the recorder using the AV cable that comes with the camera.

Both items should be available at any Walmart or online. Your current camera may work too as long as it has an AV output.

If you need more help, feel free to e-mail me.

How much should I charge to film and edit basketball games?
Q. There youth basketball games, hockey games, all sports. How much should I charge the parents. For some people I will be doing highlights, for some people I will just record the seasons for them, and clean them up in the editing rooms. How much per game or season, is $20 a game too much?

A. is it just one parent on the team asking for the videos? if more than one want the same thing, then you can charge less for copies, since it's very cheap to make a copy once you are done - $20 for the one - if 3 parents want copies, then make it $15 each - you get $45 total for the game. video camera are so cheap anymore - almost everyone who has kids in sports probably already has one

that's a lot of time spent editing - how much per hour will that come to for your $20?

I would charge probably $10 per game per copy just for an unedited video of each game - let the people do their own editing - the kids can probably figure that out on their own

Is it legal for our neighbor to install a camera that watches our house?
Q. Our neighbor has (for whatever reason) installed cameras all around his house. That's up to him I guess, but the one installed closest to our house is pointed directly at our driveway and garage. We hang out outside all the time, playing basketball and sitting in the garage and stuff like that, and it just seems rather strange to know that we are on someone else's video feed when we choose to hang out outside. I don't feel like this is legal at all.. Is it? Also, I live in the state of Tennessee, if that helps with specific laws.

A. It is legal. I have cameras that record the entire perimeter around my house. It's nothing personal against the neighbors whose areas they cover. You might be glad if someday someone screws with your property and there's a recording of it. Your neighbor probably has better things to do than watch you play basketball.

What's a good cheap digital video camera I can get?

Q. I'm looking to buy a digital video camera because I want to be able to record myself playing the piano and then share with friends/youtube. I only have about $150 to spend, what sort of camera should I get. I want the best quality I can can get within my budget. Any types of cameras you guys know of?

A. For that price I would suggest Flip Ultra Camcorder 2nd Generation, 120 Minutes
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0023B14U4?ie=UTF8&tag=computer0bd-20&linkCode=as2&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B0023B14U4

I am teaching piano in my home and I want to record my students playing with video and audio.?
Q. I was looking at the Shure microphones and was considering the SM57 since I am not recording piano professionally. I just want to have a nice sound to add to the video so my students can learn what they did wrong and so fourth. I just want to get a nice sound since the microphone on my video camera is of low quality. Any help will be appreciated.

A. If you're not going to "do" anything with the recordings other than critique students' playing, errors-and good things, fingerings, etc. there's no need to purchase an expensive mic. I don't understand why the on-camera mic doesn't pick-up the piano sounds good enough for evaluation/improvement. Move the camera closer, cropping in close on the hands/fingers?
I've done the same thing in public school teaching strictly for evaluation and quantitative analysis of numbers of errors made vs. number of correct pitches. Gives you a clear-cut way of rating/grading, with no room for "I didn't play that BAD!" Let's listen/look at the video-tape....
Good Luck!

what is a high quality camera for recording music?
Q. what is a high quality camera for recording music (singing, piano, electric guitar, drums)?
how can you make music videos smooth and professional sounding? i don't have a studio either.

A. Well, you don't say what kind of budget your have but, you want high quality so, start with this article - http://www.videomaker.com/article/8243/ - Now, that you understand a little about what's involved, here is one of the least expensive high quality cameras. The average price if a high qualtiy camera is around $10,000.

However, for recording live sound, if you want the highest quality, you need to record it with Pro Tools recording software directly off the mixer that the band plays through and you then need to sync your video with the Pro Tools audio using Pro Tools.

Will a Nikon Coolpix L18 camera with a 2gb sd card hold 15 minutes worth of video?

Q. I need to record a presentation for a class and I want to use my camera to record the video, is that enough space to hold 15 minutes of footage?

A. Just call Nikon and ask them. They will know exactly how you can get 15 minutes of continuous video from your camera

800.NIKON-UX

Things other than the size of your card can influence the answer.

* how long the camera will record any one event
* the speed class of the card you are using
* ask how to disable the auto-shutoff feature your camera has for extending the battery life on your camera

I can't watch videos from my camera on the computer?
Q. I recorded a speech choir presentation on my camera and it is 792 mb. It wont play on my computer when I try viewing it. Can anyone pls.help me with this? Thanks in advance! It would really mean a lot cause Im planning to upload it on facebook or whatever site.

A. The camera that it was recorded on would have helped or even just the video format.

Try VLC player, available from www.videolan.org

its a free player and will play most video formats, where windows media player wont. The reason for the video not playing is you do not have the correct codecs installed in your computer, VLC player contains most of the commonly used ones.

You can also convert the video in VLC player to upload it to "whatever site" :)

What is the importance of recording Speaker's Notes in a PowerPoint presentation?
Q. In what ways recording Speaker Notes during a presentation would be useful in a meeting or when planning a social event?
Is this a technique you would use?

A. It depends on the subject of the meeting. If it lends to a lot of discussion and conversation, then you need the discussion recorded. Certainly if there are things that need follow up, they need recorded and also the results of the discussion recorded. Either use a recorder or a video camera depending on what you need and is easiest to use.

How do you make the camera recording effect on Windows Movie Maker?

Q. I'm making something and I already have the video but I want to put the recording symbol at the top. Can I do this on Windows Movie Maker? I have the Vista version by the way.

A. Good thing you have the Vista version. Its still the best version of Movie Maker in my view.

Luckily I found this blog where you can download a lot of enhancement packs for the Vista version of Movie Maker (Windows Movie Maker 6.0). Here's a custom camcorder overlay for WMM 6.0. Just choose the right version if you're on 32 or 64 bit.

And here's a selection of other custom overlays you can try as well.

How do you record off your built in computor camera?
Q. I have windows 7 on my laptop and I can't figure out how to record a video off the built in camera. Thank you

A. There should be a pre-installed webcam program (e.g Cyberlink YouCam)

Even if there isn't one or you can't find it, download and use the simple Windows Live Movie Maker 2011.
Download link: http://explore.live.com/windows-live-movie-maker

Its free from Microsoft. Once installed, click on the webcam video button in the top row under the Home tab. It should show you the viewfinder. Start recording from there.

Good Luck

What is the best video camera?

Q. I'm going to be traveling, and I want to get a video camera to record it all! But what is the best kind to get? I want a camera with the best video quality and that has a lot of memory, but at reasonable price. (Maybe I should wait till after Christmas for the sales?) I greatly appreciate your help!

A. Well memory will likely be the same for them all becuase you'll be shooting to DV tape. Therefore what you should be looking for is the following features

1. A lot of manual control over things like exposure, white balance and color
2. the largest CCD chip you can get for your money (better for shooting in low light / night)

But generally the larger the CCD chip and the more manual control you will have to pay more money.

If you're just looking for cheap the following video camera is pretty good:

http://www.sonystyle.ca/commerce/servlet/ProductDetailDisplay?storeId=10001&langId=-1&catalogId=10001&productId=1004742&navigationPath=n32080n32081

What would be a starter video camera for my budget?
Q. I'm looking into film-making / movie making and I have a starter budget of $200. I need a video camera for action films that involve the night time, with preferably HD recording, that connects to a PC via USB, and looks a bit professional. Any suggestions.

A. Hi Dean:

I know that $200 sounds like a lot of money to a 14-year-old, but your budget is pretty low for anything professional-looking. And at that price "low-light" sensitivity (for night-time shots) won't be very good.

Hollywood films actually use a lot of artificial light (carefully placed at certain angles) for many night-time shots. Watch several old movies on Turner Classics (especially film-noir B&W movies like "The Maltese Falcon" or "D.O.A.") for night-time lit scenes like this one:
"To Kill a Mockingbird": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FROgIia2cb8
[For more about film-noir lighting, see Mark Apsolon's excellent video tutorial: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w1gMxT2R9z4#t=31s ]

Here's a good night-time interior from "Bladerunner": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NwJEb3vJvWY

And a more-recent one from "The Dark Knight": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6c_H45kt1_8

You'll notice that almost all the lighting is from the extreme side(s) or a strong backlight (for a silhouette effect). Sidelighting and backlighting creates strong shadows, which enhance the feeling of "night", even though the subjects' edges are brightly lit.

For an actual camcorder recommendation, try one of Canon's factory-refurbished models, to save you some money and stretch your budget: http://shop.usa.canon.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/subCategory_10051_10051_-1_17252

One of the cheaper Canon Vixia HF-series (HF-R300) or the Canon FS-400 should be in your price range, refurbished or new, if you shop carefully.

hope this helps,

How can I stop erections from happening during sleep?
Q. I seem to always get erections during sleep. For the purpose of quantification, I set up a video camera to record myself as I slept naked. I watched the playback the day after and it seems that from the time I appeared to fall asleep to when I woke up, I had about four erections during the night. How can I get them to stop?

A. You don't. If you don't get erections during the night, that is abnormal.

How can I record Video and Audio separately?

Q. I have a video camera that I would like to use due to it's high quality video, but since I am recording myself doing vocal covers for youtube, I have a rock band mic plugged into a usb port on my computer and would like to use the audio from that. I don't want to record them separately, I just want the video to be taken from the camera and the audio to be taken from the mic. Is there any way to do this?

A. Sure, in fact it is the preferred way as consumer grade camcorders don't record audio very well, especially music and singing. When you begin your recording session, use a sound marker; I use a clapper board but you can use a hand clap (my friend uses a dog training clicker). When you edit your video, add your mic'ed recoding to the time-line and after you line it up with the video (and audio) track and match the "clap", then delete the audio track of the video. If you mess up, you can always use the Back function of your editor (the editor doesn't actually edit the original video file, it makes a copy to work with).

Can we do something like SETI at home with a million cellphone cameras?
Q. If more than a few million dollars have been spent on the ET among us topic, directed toward the truth, the details have been kept secret and/or deliberately sabotaged = not necessarily a conspiracy = possibly independent sabotaging = It does not take many vocal dissenters to sway the vast slightly interested majority to negative and/or disinterested.

A million video cameras could record non stop pointed approximately straight up, daily from dusk to dawn, but 99.99% of the footage would be too boring for humans to watch. Accurate slant range can be calculated when two or more cameras catch the same event, provided the zoom setting can be quantified. But was it the same event? = most would be a tiny spot of light. Timing pulses recorded on one of the audio channels would greatly increase confidence that it was the the same event. Perhaps you can see a million dollars per year barely starts to make the program effective. Money for unattended equipment that is stolen, for lots of bits or bytes of data storage, for shipping cost to and from some central data processing centers. For internet bandwidth when the broadband data is sent by internet.
I'm not qualified to do any portion of this project, except a telephone tree/ would one of you like to start the process with a few video cameras per square kilometer in your dark sky community as a pilot program?
Approximately straight up so ET can't determine where the dead spots are. Do we need to know how many degrees of arc from the zenith each camera or telescope is pointing. GPS data on the other audio channel or multiplexed if there is only one audio channel. Likely user comments should also be recorded, which hopefully will remove some doubts about the data. I suppose some people will submit fake data, just because they can, and for other reasons. Please correct my assumptions and add details. Neil

A. NASA has a network of cameras to track meteors. It would also track UFOs. It would be a cold day before I would leave my cellphone laying on the picnic table all year long.

How could my band record music with good quality?

What compact point and shoot camera do you recommend?

Q. I already have a nikon dslr and just need a small camera to take pictures when i dont have the big one with me. my max price is $160 or so. i would like it to have HD Video recording capabilities. i was thinking of the nikon s5100, or the panasonic lumix fh20 or fp3, or relative canon models like the sd1300is. thanks
thanks people. it would also be good if it could be bought at sears.

A. I would consider Panasonic Lumix DMC-FH20 14.1 MP Digital Camera
* HD Movie Recording
* Ultra Compact 28mm Lens and 8X Optical Zoom
* Intelligent Auto with Mega OIS
* High Speed AF

What is the best dslr camera for me?
Q. I want to purchase a new camera, and I've been looking at a dslr camera. I am interested in photography and I want a quality camera. This will be my first dslr camera and my price range is between 500-800 dollars. I'm a quick learner and I really want to buy a camera that takes amazing pictures. What should I look for when buying one? How important are megapixels? My top choices are nikon d3000 or the canon rebel xsi. Please help!
Also, is live view completely necessary?

A. Hey,

You can get a good DSLR for 500-800$.
Models I recommend are:
- Canon EOS XS
- Canon EOS XSi
- Nikon D3000
- Nikon D5000

I will remove D3000, cause it doesn't have Live View. I use it when I need to check my white balance or when I photograph something still.

If you want video recording, then buy Nikon D5000 or Canon EOS T1i. I prefer the D5000.

Many megapixels are not that important, because all of these cameras have 10MP or more. More megapixels doesn't mean your photos will be sharper, better looking. They just tell you how big you can print your images while quality is still good.

I wrote an article on my blog about 'Which DSLR to buy, what's important, what's not ,megapixels, features and which models I recommend. You can read it here - http://the-digital-photographer.blogspot.com/2009/11/what-dslr-should-i-buy.html

I'm looking for a 12 mp minimum, HD video recording digital camera?
Q. I'm looking for a digital camera with HD video recording capability.
I want it to have a descent optical zoom, a minimum of 12 mega pixels and good recording capabilities at night time (and photo).
What kind of camera/make should I look for? Any suggestions?

A. Megapixels means nothing these days.. do you print out on A2? No? Good then you don't need more then 8 Megapixels

Right that said a good lens does matters. Good glass is so nice to have! And of course looking for image quality always important sometimes it is better to invest in a more limited model with better image quality because.. well you want the best right?

Night time recording? What is your budget? The point is that the laws of nature don't change to make a picture or a video you need LIGHT! Raising ISO' s will only get you so far..

I guess a DSLR could, it has a nice big sensor so low noise and coupled with the right lens [in your case a wide aperture prime] it would give relative noise free images and video at night. Do buy one with an external sound jack though because the in build microphones are usually pretty good at catching wind noise.

So most basic DSLR with HD video + Prime Lens + Tripod [really you are going to need it] and the basic set of memory cards and batteries. Oh and of course an external Microphone.. mmm $1100?

You know a HD video camera is cheaper.. but won't make as nice still shots ;)

Could they make a digital camera take pictures and video as good as professional camera?

Q. or a small video camera record as good as an expensive camcorder?
Would it be possible?
No I mean like the sharpness and pixels or what ever.
and like frame rate.

A. It's an interesting question, and in someways I want to answer yes but in others I want to answer no.

The most expensive cameras and camcorders are designed to be adjusted with lenses to suit the needs of the shot. The quality of the glass determines how the camera digests the light quite drastically and they are expensive and heavy because the glass is expertly crafted using the finest necessary materials. There would be no way to reduce the size, weight and cost of these lenses to fit make a camera aimed at the consumer.

Same goes for the sensors - they would need the same high quality glass to do their performance justice.

Things like high ISO capabilities would not be able to be processed by a smaller camera - just yet anyway.

Of course as said previously the person operating the camera can do a lot if they have a good skill. The quality of digital cameras for the consumer gets better every day, but as does the professional grade equipment so I doubt they'd ever merge the two together. The technology is complex, but if they could do it they would have done it already.

Edit:
AH! I completely misread your question I think! Do you mean will they make a still camera that can take video as well as a professional dedicated film camera? Like the previous guy said, the 5D mkII has HD video so they're getting their. Lots of wedding video companies shoot weddings on 5D mkIIs and produce superb results. The only problem is if they misbehave the guests think they are with the photographer and they get a bad rep ;)

What should I look for when buying a video camera?
Q. I'm interested in buying a video camera for professional use (wedding videos, etc.). I'm on a budget, so I want something that's entry level as far as professional grade goes. I'm probably going to make the Ebay/Pawn Shop circuit, so rather than brand, I was wondering what features/specs were important. Are they all HD now, or is that something I need to check? Thanks for your help!

A. You should make sure it has a certain record spand/ if it can take photos as well as your videos. What condition it is in, how well is the brand the video camera is from? Also how old it is if you're buying from eBay, pawn shop etc..

Video Recording and what is the cheapest way to go?
Q. I have to make about a 10 minute video recording with sound for a legal case. I don't want to invest a lot of money in this. Whta are the best options? I appreciate any opinion

A. Hi Pat:

I've done some forensic video and depositions before, and if you don't already have any gear at all, you might just rent it for the day. Companies like Video Equipment Rental (a/k/a VER) and MeetingTomorrow (see links below) have a wide range of simple to pro level gear and professional advice. Both will also deliver (as do most other rental outfits). Many major camera stores have rental departments, as well.

Otherwise, get a non-HD miniDV tape camcorder (under $250 if you shop around, or go to a good pawn shop) and a $20 tripod (since you shouldn't need fancy fluid-head pans & tilts), and possibly a $35 lavalier mike at Radio Shack (or an Audio Technica AT-35 at a guitar/music store) if it's a deposition to record the subject.

hope this helps,
--Dennis C.

Whats the best video camera for recording live music?

Q. Whats the best video camera, for under $500, that i can record good live music and have a pretty good image quality?

A. Get a camera with a microphone input. Then go get one of these http://www.asimplelife.ca/mixer.html and hook it to the mic input on your camera, that way you have control of the volumes of 4 microphones. If you cannot use mics(going to a concert) you are out of luck, any video shot at a concert, unless the crowd is deathly still, never works, audio is unusable

How can I get rid of static on my video camera?
Q. I have a Sony 30GB handycam video camera. I use it a ton for taping live concerts. We sit further in the back so the camera isn't "blown away" but there is still a TON of static when I play it back on my computer. How can I get rid of it? Is there some program I can download or something?

A. Static? As in the audio is poor?

Yes - that happens when you don't have manual audio control and the audio is REALLY loud the auto mic gain circuit is being overwhelmed and what you are hearing - that you call statis - is "clipping". The audio probably sounds pretty muddy, too.

You did not tell us the MODEL of that Sony camcorder. Most consumer cams have no manual audio control - the least expensive ones with manual audio control are the Canon HV20/HV30/HV40 and the Sony HDR-HC9... BUT, *some Sony camcorders have a "MicRefLevel" setting in the menu that is designed for loud audio environments. "Normal" for... um... normal levels of audio and "Low" gain for high audio levels.

How to get to "MicRefLevel" and how to use that will be in the camcorder handbook. If you don't have the manual, go to the Sony website's support area, look up the camcorder model and download it...

Your other option is to use a field recorder like those from Edirol, M-Audio or Zoom (among many others) and replace the video's audio with the audio from the field recorder - when you edit the video.

As a hard disc camcorder, I am surprised you are able to record under the loud audio conditions - typically, the hard drive heads park under this high level of prolonged vibration and you get a "buffer overflow" message...

If you record a live concert using a stereo mic why does it not sound as good when played back at home?
Q. I recorded a live concert and when I played it at home the low frequencies are not how the sounded at the concert. The bass is fuzzy and not powerful. Would it help if i played it through really big speakers rather than normal hifi ones? Your advice would be appreciated. Also can you recommend good mic to use when recording a concert? 10 points for most informative response.

A. Your problem can be seen all over youtube. Many people record concerts with video cameras and such and get horrible results. The reason that your microphone doesn't sound like a Professional one is because of many things.

First, your microphone is probably not professional grade. And when I mean professional, I mean shure and other major company branded.
However, even that probably won't compare to a pro recording because your recording probably has a lot of background noise of people screaming and such.

Lastly, in professional recordings of concerts, everything is balanced through equalizers, mixer, and all other equipment. They have the capability of changing single channels to record what they want to hear. This means that every different audio source has its own volume and such. For example, say we have a guitar, piano, and a mic. With multichannel's, we can lower the volume and the guitar while keeping same volume for the piano and mic. All of these sources get put into mixers and exported to three places, the audience sound system, the on stage sound system, and a computer which records everything.

Also, your mic probably has a specific range it records at. Most like it does not record long ranges. The Manuel's of professional grade mics have diagrams of which areas around the mic are recorded at optimal performance.

how to you view a video you have recorded with the discovery kids digital camera/video camera?

Q. we bought our daughter a used discovery kids digital camera/video camera. i can take video with it but i do not know how to watch the video after i take it. the camera did not come with a manual and i can't find it on line.

A. It seems that you use a USB cable to connect it to a computer and download the videos/photos that way.

From photos I can't tell what the button next to the USB socket says. Is it Mode? I'd guess that may switch between taking photos/videos and replaying them.

A. Get a camera with a microphone input. Then go get one of these http://www.asimplelife.ca/mixer.html and hook it to the mic input on your camera, that way you have control of the volumes of 4 microphones. If you cannot use mics(going to a concert) you are out of luck, any video shot at a concert, unless the crowd is deathly still, never works, audio is unusable

what is a high quality camera for recording music?
Q. what is a high quality camera for recording music (singing, piano, electric guitar, drums)?
how can you make music videos smooth and professional sounding? i don't have a studio either.

What kind of camera to use for math lecturing?

Q. I am planning to solve math problems on a piece of paper, record it and post it to the web for my students to view. What kind of camera should I buy?

A. It would cost in excess of $3500 to get a HD camcorder that could equal the video Quality of a $300 MiniDV tape camcorder.

Consumer level HD camcorders have 3 problems. 1) Blurry, fuzzy, out of focus areas closely around people in videos taken by consumer level HD camcorders. 2) Any movement, even a wave or lifting an arm, while in front of a recording consumer level HD camcorder, results in screen ghosts and artifacts being left on the video track, following the movement. Makes for bad video, sports videos are unwatchable. 3) Mandatory maximum record times - 1 hour, 30 minutes, 8 minutes, 3 minutes - all times advertised as maximum record time for some consumer level HD camcorders. No event i have aver been to is that short. Either take multiple camcorders or pack up with out getting the end of the event on video.

With a MiniDV tape camcorder, record 60 or 90 minutes ( camcorder settings), 90 second or less to change a tape and record for 60 or 90 more and repeat till you run out of tapes.

You can get a Canon ZR960 for $250. It is a MiniDV tape camcorder, has a Mic jack. You need a firewire (IEEE1394) card ($25 to 30) for the computer and a firewire cable (less than 10) to be able to transfer video to your computer.

Flip camera: will it video record my lecture if I use a double board?
Q. How wide of a space can it capture? Will I have to manually move it when I switch from one board to the other?

A. Most likely yes. the best thing to do is get a wide angle lense to get the best coverage, and this will also allow you to get the camera as close to you as possible to pick up the sound better. Not many Flips have the wide angle option but the one I put in the resource box does have a wide angle lense available and its not expensive at all.

Hope it helps

What is a cheapest microphone attachment that I can buy from Amazon that will allow me to record lectures?
Q. I need one that can attach via 3.5 mm jack to a digital voice recorder

A. Try looking for a video camera shotgun mic. They usually have a 3.5mm plug, and will capture audio from a certain direction.

Digital camera with video recording optical zoom?

Q. Could someone tell me whether there is a digital camera that takes great pictures and has a video recording feature with optical zoom? I am aware that the video recording on a digital camera is not as good as a camcorder. I just want a 2 in 1 so that I can take pictures and short video clips. I am torn between Canon SD780is, Canon SD880is, and I think some Panasonic DMC's have the feature. Any additional ideas would be helpful.

A. I have the Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ5 and you can zoom while recording and it takes great pictures. It records HD videos.
I would recommend it.

How to adjust the lighting on a digital camera video recording?
Q. So I recorded a video on my digital camera, unfortunately the lighting was not the greatest. Is there anyway to enhance the video to make it brighter?

A. There is hope.

First off, the great thing about digital is that it's easier to get a good image from a dark one than it is from one that's overblown. The reason being is this: the sensors on a digital camera only soak up so much light before they turn to white. If a pixel is recorded as white (blown out, zebra striped, etc.), there is absolutely no way of bringing it back down to a color.

When shooting film, the exact is opposite. A bit off topic but good to know.

So, unless what you shot is completely black, and even if it is, there's sure to be some data in those pixels, and data in pixels is a good thing! Having data in a pixel means it recorded the image. However, finding that image requires the proper software.

A basic editing program with decent image control is Final Cut Pro. I would assume Windows Movie Maker and most video editing programs would have the most elementary of controls as well. What you want to look for is:

1.) Levels - If you have the option of working with levels, you can bring the blacks / shadows up to a visible range, while leaving the midtones and highlights relatively untouched.

2.) Brightness / Exposure - If you have the option of working with brightness or exposure, you can boost the blacks / shadows up to a visible level, but keep in mind anything that looks good now will become overblown or white.

3.) Saturation - If you have the option of adjusting saturation, this may be a good step after adjusting the light levels of your image. Usually when you boost the 'brightness' of an image, it also becomes more washed out, which can be countered by boosting the saturation until you get a natural look.

4.) Noise Reduction - This adjustment would be the icing on the cake. When you boost those shadows, you'll quickly notice that they're very grainy. Noise reduction helps to lower than grainy look, but also tends to slightly blur an image. Worth a try at the very least.

In the future, there are a few things you can do to avoid a repeat. Look for these settings on your camera:

-F Stop - rare for low end cameras, but if you have control of the F stop, you can adjust the brightness and depth of field (area of picture that's blurred or clear) by increasing or decreasing the numbers. The smaller the number, the brighter the picture. Also, the smaller the number, the less depth of field you have. This is also known as aperture.

-ISO / film speed - Film speed or ISO is how quickly the sensor records the image. This affects the amount of light necessary to light a scene. A lower ISO (200) is slower to absorb light, but will give you less grain or noise in your video. A higher ISO (1600) will be easier to light with little light, but will also be much more grainy (noise).

Hope that helps!

How to make photos from a digital video camera recording.?

Q. We have a Sony digital video camera that records on a small magnetic tape. When we watch recordings of our kids sports events, you can pause the recording and the still image on the TV is fantastic! Is there a way to turn these still images into photographs that can be developed at the drug store? I haven't tried taking a picture of the TV screen yet, we're looking for something a little higher tech.

A. Most editing programs will let you do a screen capture. This would be done on the computer.

What is a good digital video camera for recording piano playing?
Q. For youtube and stuff. I have a normal piano not an electric one. I also want to use the camera for recording sports and stuff. I want the sound on the piano to not be distorted like it is on most cameras and I want the sound to sound like it really does. Thanks. I would prefer that it was under $200. THANKS!!!!!

A. Any kind of Point & Shoot camera would fit your shooting style and price range.

Look for:
Canon Powershot
Nikon Coolpix
Sony Cybershot

Good luck!

video camera high quality for low price?

What is a good video camera for recording loud music without distorting the noise?

Q. I'm in a rock band, and we would like to record us playing, so we can put it on youtube. We are looking for a VIDEO camera that can shoot good videos, but we want better sound quality. Budget is $200 or less. This, or a camera that has a "USB IN" thing so that i can plug a rockband mic into it

A. To get the very best sound quality for a music video, you should ALWAYS record the video and the music separately. Then merge and synchronize the music using a good audio/video editor and sequencer like Pro Tools.

But, if you insist on recording them together, you need to have a digital video camcorder that has an external microphone input so that you can plug in your own studio quality microphone. Better still is to have more than one microphone running through a mic preamp that feeds into the camcorder. The music should also be balanced correctly by running the entire band through a mixer and then recording the audio off of the mixer in stereo to the camcorder.

If your music is too loud, it's going to sound bad anyway. You can turn down the music and it not only sounds better, the people listening to won't have to shout at each other to comment on it and the musicians won't go deaf at an early age from damaging their ears with a constant barrage of excessive decibels. http://www.abelard.org/hear/hear.php#loud-music

what kind of video camera should I buy?
Q. I want something used at a reasonable price that can actually tolerate some motion and has sufficient audio quality to record live music. What's the best used video camera? Is digital really better than tape, given what I'm looking for?

A. get the SVP t-100 or the t-500 , or any of the t series for that matter, they are a lot better quality than the analog , or dv technology , dvd was the next one , which still had the transfer and edit problems , and now we have hdd and SD and sdhc technology allowing us to record massive amounts of information with out loss in transfer to hard drive and transfers to computers , ease with editing , and quick and easy burning. what sort of video should you buy , this is a personal choice , if you had a SONY and you loved it get another one , or JVC have a look at the svp one , it is cheap and does all you need and have described.and is around $100US or $150AU

How can I put My Snapvine music on utube?
Q. Look I don't have a video camera or anything to record my music...... I just want to know how to put my music on u tube. Please help me!

A. ...How is this a joke or a riddle? ( >_>)

I don't think it's possible to put just music on Youtube without any sort of visual. One way to put your music on Youtube is to download software such as Camtasia, which will allow you to record videos and sound on your computer. Then put an image on your computer screen of something relevant to the song, such as a picture or lyrics, begin recording with Camtasia, and then play the song. ( ^_^ ) It should record the sound right from your computer; you don't need to worry about a microphone or anything.

Good luck!

Otherwise, get a non-HD miniDV tape camcorder (under $250 if you shop around, or go to a good pawn shop) and a $20 tripod (since you shouldn't need fancy fluid-head pans & tilts), and possibly a $35 lavalier mike at Radio Shack (or an Audio Technica AT-35 at a guitar/music store) if it's a deposition to record the subject.

hope this helps,
--Dennis C.
