I want something with a pretty good battery life, easy to operate and easy to carry. Not to technical in that I'm a novice. Lastly something that can easily connect to microphones in that I'll be interviewing people as I meet them in my travels.

Answer
I found the KODAK Zi6 to be a very handy camera, both picture quality and decent sound. After transferring the video to my pc for dvd burning, I found the picture to be of a much higher quality than my 5 year old handheld Sony model. It is far easier to carry around due to it's size and easy to control. I do not plan on using under low light or distant filming, as I realize that this is a limitation of the camera, but for regular indoor/outdoor films, this camera will do the trick.I found the cheapest online, here is the link

Hope you like it!

What is a good video camera for me?

Tony

I am 15 years old and I make short films at my highschool and home. The camera I have at home is horrible, when editing in
Premiere Or after effects the quality is just horrible and not crystal

clean like at my higheschool. (we use the canon a1s) basically I want a better camera thAn I have that is about 300 dollars or lower. Are there any dsrl cameras out there that will do the job? The camera I'm using now is a HD 10.0 megapixel samsung u10, just anything better, thanks!

Answer
There are so many camcorders but I always look to what you need the camcorder for to match up to your recording needs.

If you are interviewing people and need to have good audio I'd look to the Kodak Zi8. Excellent video and the ability to hook up an external mic. It is selling around $150 to $180.

http://store.kodak.com/store/ekconsus/search/&keywords=zi8?cm_mmc=Google_MarketForce-_-Store-_-Video%20Camera%20-%20zi8-_-kodak%20%20zi8

If you want a dslr type camera that can shoot HD video for under $300 that's kinda tough to meet but you might get close with some of the Nikon CoolPix brands like the L110. It shoots in 720p and you can record some mighty fine photos. I've seen it on sales for about $220.

http://shop.nikonusa.com/store/nikonusa/en_US/pd/productID.213452300/ThemeID.18145600/Currency.USD?resid=TQA03goBAlYAABFpSMMAAAAD&rests=1291859166395

I'd take a look at Panasonics, Canon Flash Memory Card Camcorders and maybe Sony. Check both the Still and Digital Camcorders because there is action happening on both sides of the fence.

I would start at B&H Photo http://www.bhphotovideo.com/browse/Camcorders/N/4294548420 to check out the possibilities.

What are some good cameras that are perfect for recording that take SD cards?

deadcow

What are some good cameras that are perfect for recording that take SD cards? I would love a compact digital camera that's PERFECT for video taking. The camera has to be able to use SD cards. Thanks!

Answer
Perfect? Nothing that doesn't have boobs can ever be perfect. At least that is what my wife tells me.

Many recent P&S cameras will do a pretty good job of producing video, even in high definition. None however will be able to store much video on an SD card. They all use SDHC nowadays. If you go to http://www.dpreview.com you can do a search on cameras with video capability. Read the reviews on all those that look interesting.

I'm going to be traveling, and I want to get a video camera to record it all! But what is the best kind to get? I want a camera with the best video quality and that has a lot of memory, but at reasonable price. (Maybe I should wait till after Christmas for the sales?) I greatly appreciate your help!

Answer
Well memory will likely be the same for them all becuase you'll be shooting to DV tape. Therefore what you should be looking for is the following features

1. A lot of manual control over things like exposure, white balance and color
2. the largest CCD chip you can get for your money (better for shooting in low light / night)

But generally the larger the CCD chip and the more manual control you will have to pay more money.

If you're just looking for cheap the following video camera is pretty good:

I'm leaning towards the Canon PowerShot Elph 300 HS. Thanks in advance!

The Canon 300 HS is a fine choice. If you like it, then stick with it. I'd also suggest going to a nearby camera/electronic store to try out some for yourself though.

How do I use a digital camera as a web cam on my pc?

onthebeach

I have a good digital camera, that is able to video record. I also have a way to hook it up to my pc and transfer pic & vids to my files. I would like to use this camera as a web cam, my old one is pretty cheap & doesn't work so well. Does any one know how to hook up a digital camera as a web cam?

Answer
I really don't think you are able to do this with most modern digital cameras. The USB connection is used to transfer pics and video between PC and camera, not to stream live video. You can get a descent web cam for around $30 though!
Good Luck =)

I want to connect my Sony HandyCam HDR CX-150 to my Macbook Pro that has a firewire port. I don't think that the camera has a port on it for firewire but I heard that you can get an adapter for firewire to mini usb (the usb cable). I would be using the camera to record videos in iMovie 2011. Hope you can help!

Answer
The Sony HDR-CX150 cannot be used as a web cam. That's why there's nothing in the manual telling you haw to do that. You do not need firewire, and you do not need an adapter. The camcorder cannot do streaming the way you want.

Capture the video, then connect the camcorder to the Mac with a USB cable then Capture or import the video using iMovie for editing.

good video camera for recording live music image

FreeThePla

I am somewhat on a budget, but I will pay for quality. I am mainly wanting it to record live music in bars, so I want something that can handle that much noise clearly.

This part is not necessary but I'm going on a canoe trip soon, so if there is one I can take down the river too, that would be awesome. But I don't want to sacrifice video/sound quality just for that.

Answer
Live music = loud = camera or camcorder needs some sort of audio gain control. I would also expect that these would be night scenes - or poor indoor lighting. Hopefully, there is stage lighting for the performers.

Canoe trip = waterproof. Generally, there are housings available for waterproofing, so I think the long-pole is the audio control.

Step 1: Set a budget.

At the low end, there's the GoPro Hero or something from the Canon HF R line. With the GoPro's using an external digital audio recorder like a Zoom H1 and synching audio when editing the video. With the proper camcorder like the Canon HF R series, then use the "attenuator" mic setting for loud audio and a waterproof "bag". The camera is not expected to deep in the water, so an expensive deep-water housing is not needed. I think the Ewa Marine VLA would fit most of the Canon HF series camcorders. Sony has its line of underwater housings for Sony camcorders so any of the HDR-series cams can work for both your needs... Another angle is the Zoom Q3HD and not use it while canoeing (but after landing).

what is a high quality camera for recording music?

TYcck

what is a high quality camera for recording music (singing, piano, electric guitar, drums)?
how can you make music videos smooth and professional sounding? i don't have a studio either.

Answer
Well, you don't say what kind of budget your have but, you want high quality so, start with this article - http://www.videomaker.com/article/8243/ - Now, that you understand a little about what's involved, here is one of the least expensive high quality cameras. The average price if a high qualtiy camera is around $10,000.

However, for recording live sound, if you want the highest quality, you need to record it with Pro Tools recording software directly off the mixer that the band plays through and you then need to sync your video with the Pro Tools audio using Pro Tools.

I have a 2009 panosonic lumix (digital not HD - forget type though), but it's kind of broken because the lens won't open fully. I think it's time to get a new camera since I haven't gotten one since early 2010. I plan to be a photographer in the future (as a side job). I am also going to work at a camp and plan to take pictures there. I don't feel like bringing my big EOS digital 2008 cannon. Here's what I'm looking for:

1. Price range no more than $250. I would prefer less than $200, but if it would really suite me, then I'd go for it.
2. I'm not quite sure what I like. I know there's no such thing as a total all around digital point and shoot because I've been doing some research. I'd probably be doing photo shoots, but I also want one that would take like pictures of people doing sports since I'm in the horse world and like to take pictures of people horse riding and stuff. I guess I'd mainly focus on pets and kids and stuff.
3. I know optical zoom. I have photoshop CS5, so I don't need the pixels taken up like that.
4. I don't need a video recording. Would be nice, but eh I'd rather save my money and just use my phone or something.
5. I have a 2010 mac book pro laptop, so I'd like the card to be able to read/format on that.
6. If I print out images, it doesn't need to be more than 8X10 photo paper printed pictures. I mean I'd use my bigger camera for larger photos, so yeah. I'll probably just post the pictures online/email them if anything so won't need them really printed big.
7. I'd like to have a camera that has a decent battery life. At camp, the power went out for 8 days last year. I was able to take pictures the whole time and took over 300 pictures and still had battery life. I wouldn't mind having a long battery life like that camera.
8. My hand does shake a tad sometimes, so I'd prefer a not SOOO sensitive camera.
9. I'd like a camera that has the ability for manual settings and as well as auto or/and preset settings.
10. I'd prefer like Cannon, Nikon, Panasonic (nicer brands rather than the not so trustworthy brands because I know how to use those types of cameras).

Which camera(s) do you think would best suite me?

Answer
http://keerok-photography.blogspot.com/2012/09/cannon-is-weapon.html

1. Price is right smack in your budget.
2. Zoom is enough on this camera for taking horses and their riders. This is also good for shots of pets, kids and stuff which are near you or relatively out of reach. Just remember to shoot under lots of light. Indoors, use flash.
3. Optical zoom is not extravagant but not wanting either. Don't worry. What it lacks in zoom, it makes up with optical quality.
4. This has HD video which you can completely ignore until you find a lustful desire for it later.
5. As a standard feature, all cameras follow the FAT filesystem. With memory cards 4GB and larger, FAT32 is imposed. Mac computers can recognize FAT/FAT32 without problems. You can even format the memory card to FAT/FAT32 using your Mac (no matter how many pro photographers advice you not to). It will work.
6. This is a 16MP camera. You can print to 11x16" as long as exposure quality is gloriously good enough.
7. Four AA batteries. The best would be Energizer Lithium but you can also get rechargeable Ni-MH. Just make sure they're at least 2100 mAh for very long lasting shooting. In the event you run out, just slide over to the nearest store for some Alkaline AA's. That's the beauty of it.
8. Oh, this camera's sensitive. Apart from excellent optical glass quality, it has a triple-shake-reduction technology so don't worry about shaky hands. You're covered on that one.
9. Manual exposure? Manual focus? No problem. It's not as intuitive as a dSLR. This is after all just a bridge but, if you want manual, this has manual.
10. Since you can't spell Canon correctly, I'll take it you don't know that this brand is older than them and just a tad younger than Nikon. There was a time in fact when all cameras sold by all other brands (nice and not so trustworthy) were lesser than that sold by this brand alone. So there.

Answer
Canon PowerShot A1300 16.0 MP Digital Camera with 5x Digital Image Stabilized Zoom 28mm Wide-Angle Lens with 720p HD Video Recording Great camera for the price. Purchased the camera in May 2012 to shoot family events, friends ect. You could not ask for a better price vs performance camera. Very simple to use, excellent picture and video quality. I would suggest getting a cushioned camera case that includes the USB thumb drive reader for $10, the case is perfect for travel and storage when not in use. The USB reader is a great option when offloading the memory card.

I'm looking for a video camera to record some videos of myself playing the piano. I honestly care more about sound quality than picture quality, yes, I would like to have a very good quality video, but sound is more important in this case. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Answer
If you can swing it, take the audio feed from microphones into your computer's hard drive and take the video feed from the camera into the computer's hard drive and record them simultaneously into an appropriate program. Most modern camcorders have CD quality sound now but you could get even better quality sound if you do it this way because it allows you to use superior microphones, external equalizers, and other sound processing gear to get your sound. This is how the professionals do it and there is a reason for that. Good luck to you!

What is a good, cheap way to record audio?

Varky

My friends and I have recently begun to produce short films for fun and for school, and I have decent video editing software. The biggest problem we face is the awful quality of sound we get from our video camera's microphone. Lip synching at a later time could be an option, although on-location audio recording would best suit our purposes.

Anyway, does anyone know of some basic (cheap) equipment that can record audio and is able to be uploaded to a computer for editing?

Thanks

Answer
You need some sort of USB interface or for a laptop maybe that you can take with you. Also, a good mic for that application would be something with a hyper-cardioid pattern like a "shotgun mic".

If you get a USB interface a lot of times they come with software to record with. Try the presonus stuff or something like that. The Pro Tools MBox stuff is great too. Also, M-Audio.

I am using a Mac.
Basically, I want to use multiple cameras to record a church service, all connected to my Mac, and control it from here.
It's going to be a very low budget film.
I've heard of Premiere Pro, and have used a little bit of it.
But any other ideas?
How to connect the cameras to each other, if possible how to connect the church sound system?

Thanks.

Answer
forget the mac

you need PTZ cameras, these can be remotely aimed (Pan-tilt) and framed with the zoom. since you don't need to change all cameras at the same time, only one controller is needed.

next you need a video mixer. any of the Panasonic WJ-MX series will work. The WJ-MX50a is made for 4 cameras. These mixers also have audio so you can mix additional audio sources, such as the church PA. mixer also has a "preview" output so you can see how you are adjusting the camera before you "take" it on the program out.

finally, record live on a DVD-R recorder/player. that way you are ready to make copies even as the echos of the last song are fading away.

What is the Florida law for video recording confessions?

Nicole - i

Recording on a video camera. Someone admits to harassment. The harassment was through text messages. About 350 text messages and 20 restricted phone calls were made to the individual in less then 48 hours. The harasser does not know he or she has been recorded. The individual saved a majority of the text messages and printed them out. Is it illegal to record the harasser confession? The harasser admitted to texting the individual phone and calling on a block number. I just need to know what the law is in Florida for this. This is not a confession for Church.

Answer
Recording some one and not telling them is not usable in court. But you can you use that as evidence against the person by showing it to someone. The easiest thing to do is get your number changed on the cell phone which may be done for free the first time due to a harassment issue. Filling for a temporary restraining order can be done by a police officer coming to your house and that police can see the tape.

Answer
Ok you need a Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ50 owner to actually set the record straight on the camera then a so called expert like flotoace. I got this camera over a DSLR for a few things that DSLR cannot do. First of all if you buy a DSLR camera you will need to buy about 3-6 Lens in order to get the zoom of what the FZ-50 can get you. the FZ-50 can go from 35-420mm, price out the lens for the DSLR lens and see how much you will spend. Yes the 50 can only go to F-stop 3.7 at 420mm where the DSLR can go to 2.8 at sporting events...at a heafty weight where you will need a tripod for it while the 50 can be handheld. Now the picture quality: Wow i say the 50 gives alot of the so called DSLR great cameras a run for the money in this. I have taken stunning pics with my 50 and have put them up against other DSLR in my photo club and i have walked away with DSLR owners grumbling under thier breath that they bought the wrong cameras. The quality of the pictures, colors, sharpness is just crazy. To look at pictures that at least 740 owners of the 50 have taken go to this site:
www.flickr.com
enter in Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ50 and you will see amazing pics.
I did not want to carry all this equipment that you would have to with the DSLR owners have to in order to just take a picture.
Another advantage is that the FZ-50 lets you grow into the camera, lets you learn and grow. Yes it has full auto, Scene mode, and you can have full manual control too...oh and can DSLR take video in either 4:3 or 16:9 mode? Thought not!
Here are some sample pics i have taken with the 50...enjoy:

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2124/2104367010_ec10d61acb.jpg
oh and if any DSLR owner ask...yes i have enlargeged some of my pics all the way to 30x36 with no problems in picture quality at all. good luck on you decision.

Sony a55 vs Nikon d3100?

Matthew

I don't know anything about cameras. I'm looking for something under 1000$. Plain and simple. Which one is better?
Ok I shouldn't have said I don't know anything about cameras. I have some knowledge of dslr cameras and am not interested in buying a point and shoot.

Answer
Hi,

Both Sony a55 and the Nikon d3100 are DSLRs and for people with some knowledge about photography. I am not saying that you cannot operate the camera... you can definitely!!!

If you are willing to spend $1000 and wanting some interest to learn photography you should think of the Sony a55 as this camera is of the newest technology with a translucent mirror tech APS-C type CMOS sensor, 16.2MP (mega pixel), 10fps (frames per second) shooting mode, panorama (you will love this), Full HD video recording (never need a video camera) and a host of other features. You can always start to learn from scratch.

Nikon d3100 - small sensor (bigger the better), 14.2 MP (bigger the better), 3fps shooting mode (bigger the better) and other specific Nikon features.

But if you do not want a DSLR then you can buy a simple point-and-shoot camera which would fulfill your requirements. Sony is the leader in P&S cameras. Some of them you may try are Sony DSC-W570 or the latest DSC-HX100v 30x zoom 16.2 MP (to be launched in May 2011).

---------------------------------------------------- Updated --------------------------------------------

@Jens ------ in reply to -------

Just wanted to say that what I mentioned above is after reading the accurate specs from the respective websites of the 2 companies.

The Sony a55 sensor size is 23.5 x 15.6mm (APS-C SENSOR) (Bigger Sensor)
The Nikon d3100 sensor size is 23.1 x 15.4 mm (DX FORMAT also known as APS-C Sensor. Nikon uses its own term as "DX Format") (Smaller Sensor)

The more MP (in bigger sensor) the higher the crop factor you get in photos.

Why isnt there video surveillance of Adam Lanza in Sandy Hook?

best camera for video recording 2012 image

wickedwels

During Columbine, there is video of kids running in the cafeteria, then you see the boys walking by. Also, whats up with the footage from the helicopter of the man running in the woods from Sandy Hook?

Answer
This was one of my questions exactly. The school (along with the entire district) had just implemented a new security system that included video surveillance. A letter that the district sent to all parents at the beginning of the 2012-13 school year stated in part:

"Dear Members of our Sandy Hook Family,

Our district will be implementing a security system in all elementary schools as part of our ongoing efforts to ensure student safety. As usual, exterior doors will be locked during the day. Every visitor will be required to ring the doorbell at the front entrance and the office staff will use a VISUAL MONITORING SYSTEM to allow entry. Visitors will still be required to report directly to the office and sign in. If our office staff does not recognize you, you will be required to show identification with a picture id. Please understand that with nearly 700 students and over 1000 parents representing 500 SHS families, most parents will be asked to show identification." http://www.wtnh.com/dpp/news/fairfield_cty/sandyhook-security-policy#.UPwyH2eANPQ

Concerning the man in the woods, I downloaded the audio from the police scanner (NOT from any conspiracy theory site or link, but from the legitimate source for radio communications--RadioReference.com). This incident is acknowledged on the scanner audio ("They're coming at me...this is it!") Also, during the media coverage, CBS reported that there was a potential second shooter in custody, and also showed a short interview of an eye witness who said a man in handcuffs wearing camo was walked out of the woods by police and put in the front seat of a nearby patrol car. He motioned with his head in the direction where the man was being held, but the camera did not pan over. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i9TYG3MFuQE

The main thing that prompted me to start an independent investigation of the Sandy Hook incident was the inconsistencies in the media coverage. First, they reported that only two handguns were used. It was reported that it had been positively confirmed that a shotgun and rifle were taken to the scene, but left in the trunk of the car. (This is also acknowledged on the scanner audio). They even showed footage of an officer unloading and removing a shotgun from the trunk of a car. Later the story was changed to four handguns were found inside, and finally to no handguns were used--only the "long rifle" (AR-15).

Also, I am a mother of four, and I can't imagine something like this happening to my 4-year old, who is in pre-K. But I also have a son turning 13 this year who has Asperger's, and this really became personal to me when the media referred to Adam Lanza as a "mentally diseased monster." My son has had his moments with social awkwardness, but I know without a doubt that he would not be capable of such a heinous act absent mind control. He is very loving, and has an innocence and naiveté about him that most boys his age seem to lack. However, he probably does have the potential to be easily manipulated.

So, naturally, what upset me the MOST from the police scanner audio was when one officer says, "Standby. Units in front of the school. We're conducting an interior search at this time." His voice gets progressively quieter as he says this, and at the end, he whispers the word "time." Then he whispers something that sounds like, "End (or take) the life of Adam." This chilled me to the core, and I played it for several people, who could also hear this. I searched the internet, and discovered that other people had found it as well: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=02he0pmp1sM

So how does this fit into the official story of the media? If there even was such a person as Adam Lanza (his official photos appear to be layered, and there's no record of him anywhere for the past several years), was he somehow manipulated to be a patsy for this incident? Why was it reported that he shot himself? Why would he have bothered to don a bullet proof vest if he had planned to shoot himself? What was his motive? Too many questions...

What video editing software does bubzbeauty use?

Like for side captions and stuff. And I'd really like to know, how beauty gurus or any other Video maker makes their videos look perfect and all. Is is self-recorded? And like, for beauty gurus, how do they focus the camera place to place without it showing them doing it?

Answer
Try Filelab or Freemake.

FileLab is a new release, and is a freeware video editing program. It is very good, and very easy to use. And it has a very good Caption title editor along with fancy transitions and effects like I'm assuming that you want to incorporate into your videos.

Freemake is one of the most easiest video editor and converter programs out there. It is a Swiss Army Knife in that it can do just about anything for converting videos, and it does them well.

And with both of these you easily can clip out the intro and ending where you can cut out that part of the video where your turning the camera on and off.

Both are no-kidding freeware, yet both are also safe to download. More info with download links at the following blog article:

I want to use a photo camera with video recording capability, to record a video, but I want to control the recording, and save it directly on my mac. This way I don't have to be behind the camera to start and stop the recording, and I don't have to transfer the video files afterwards.

Which cameras would work for that?

Answer
any camera now days better if have a memory card though not many that have not then simply put into the mc slot or use an extender and edit :) if honest a little unsure on your exact question but also there are many softwares available and though i use windows there are loads of recording softwares to record using webcam too

I need a good quality, cheap digital video camera for recording live band performances & uploading to youtube?

yvette

My bf plays for a band and I record with my kodak zd15. The sound sucks really bad. I need a nice camera that video records and has good audio for live band performance. I looked into the Mino HD 8GB Flip, I really liked the upload your own photo thing but it has a lot of downs.
Is the cannon sd1000 a better choice?
I need help.

Answer
Consumer-grade camcorders don’t record audio very well especially music. Most have omni-directional microphones that tend to pick up all sound around the cam, like sound bouncing off walls, etc. And some are not even stereo mics. If your Kodak ZD15 is okay with the video imagery, then use a separate audio recorder which is the best way to record for music video projects. You did not state your budget but something like a Zoom H1 digital recorder ($99.00) and used with a quality microphone is the cheapest option. But better yet, something like the Zoom H4n or Tascam DR100 (both around $290.00). They can use two mics (and the two on-board mics) and the ability to balance up to 4 channels. The important part is the microphone and for a way to adjust the gain, as music will peak and fall throughout the performance, and each instrument has its own unique sound waves. Using ear-muff style headphones will allow you to listen more accurately what the mic(s) is picking up. You may be able to rent a recorder and try it out to see if it will work for you. Check with your local music instrument stores. If you still are leaning towards another camcorder, just make sure it has an external microphone port and headphone port.

I'm using a 12" Powerbook G4 Laptop and a Sony DCR-DVD408 video camera. The camera I usually use records with tapes and is easy to import into iMovie. I have this camera on loan from my football coach and I need an easy way to upload the video from the camera to my computer. I really don't have a lot of time and money to order a converter/adapter, so I was wondering what the easiest way to import my video was.

Thanks.

How do I choose a family camcorder (video camera)?

PP

I don't know much about them and the info out there doesn't really break it down from the basics to the advanced. All I know is what they have at the local stores. How do I choose a good family video camera? Of course budget is a factor, but remove that and tell me what to look for/where to look/how to differentiate.

Answer
DVD camcorders are never a good choice! Since it's a family camcorder I'll make a couple of assumptions - you'll want to keep the video for a long time and it needs to be fairly robust. Look for an entry level MiniDV camcorder - they record to tapes which can be kept for years and, while you can't use them as footballs, they're able to stand some rough treatment. Don't get too hung up on the specs - get something that feels right, with the controls where you expect to find them, and that's within your budget. Don't bother about how much optical zoom a camcorder's got - they're all adequate, and ignore digital zoom completely. I'd avoid camcorders with touch screen controls (sticky fingers!) and look for something with a viewfinder so it's easier to use in bright sunlight.

You'll see a lot of (usually cheap) camcorders that record to memory cards. These are great for recording a few minutes of the kids playing and then watching the results straight away - they're not so good for the long term, though.

90% of the video that's shot is crap! That's not me being snotty, it's a law of nature (you should see MY 90%)! If you want something that people will watch more than once you'll need to edit it. You'll need to capture the video via firewire - if your PC hasn't already got one you'll need to install a firewire card. They're cheap, easy to install and readily available. You'll also need a firewire cable. You can then edit the video using Windows Movie Maker.

Hello,

I went to a workshop and the presenter used her Iphone camera and pointed towards my answers on my desk. Her phone's camera was "video recording" my sheet, but the phone was somehow connected to her laptop, and the lap top in turn connected to the projector.
Is there any way to make this happen with a galaxy phone?

Thanks!

is it legal for a teacher to record a class to keep track of the happenings and get a student into trouble?

Q. a teacher at my school is recording my class so she can keep track of who is doing work and who isn't... she is then going to use the videos to get people into trouble for not working? is it not true that you have to have permission from at least parents in order to do that? personally i dont think what she is doing is right. and if its not right i want back up and proof that it is wrong and take it to her. can anyone help me to find where i can find information on the matter?

Answer
Is it legal? I think it depends on the state and the circumstances.

I know in NY we are not allowed to film a classroom for any reason without ALL of the parents permission.

Security cameras in the hallway are a totally different story legally speaking.

I would speak to the principal about it, if she is doing it with the principal's permission chances are it is legal (principals are usually the most scared of law suits).

I have recorded a long 10 minute video on my 12MP bridge camera. i would like to know how do i convert it so that i can easily upload it on Youtube?

to which format for Youtube? and what (free) software do i need to use in converting it?

Thanks.

Answer
YouTube accepts a wide range of video file formats.
Here's a list of some well-known formats that YouTube supports:
.WebM files - Vp8 video codec and Vorbis Audio codecs
.MPEG4, 3GPP and MOV files - Typically supporting h264, mpeg4 video codecs, and AAC audio codec
.AVI - Many cameras output this format - typically the video codec is MJPEG and audio is PCM
.MPEGPS - Typically supporting MPEG2 video codec and MP2 audio
.WMV
.FLV - Adobe-FLV1 video codec, MP3 audio

Popular is FLV format. So you can convert to FLV for upload to YouTube. If you need a converter,Enolsoft Video Converter can help you.Not noly can convert to FLV, and convert between all common video formats.

I have a video camera with one long video on it. How do I seperate a part of this video from the rest?

Matt

I want to put a Halo 3 movie on Youtube. I've recorded the video on my video camera but I had to record it about 53 minutes into the tape because a family video took up the first 50 minutes of the tape. Do you have any suggestions on how I can take a section of the video and put it on Youtube? If I need software please tell me what software I need.

Answer
If you recorded 103 minutes of video on a camcorder tape, this is not a miniDV tape based camcorder - it sounds like it is a full sized VHS analog camcorder so there will not be any digital connections.

How would you normally connect the camcorder to a computer? If this has not been done, and my assumption in the first paragraph is correct, then you need to get an analog/digital bridge like
http://pinnaclesys.com/PublicSite/us/Products/Consumer+Products/Dazzle/Family.htm
Connect the camcorder to the A/D bridge with the AV cables that came with the camcorder, then connect the A/D bridge to the computer... and follow the instructions that come with the A/D bridge.

Does anyone know any good movie makers?

Munchie.

I think move makers is the correct phrase? :S

I recently got a video camera which records movies on DVD-R discs & DVD-RAM discs (the smaller ones). I have used both of these types of discs & am hoping to edit them, add special effects & text & so on. I am completely new to this so a less complicated programme would be better. Any suggestions?

Answer
TAKE THE CAMERA BACK!!!

DO NOT BUY A DVD BASED CAMCORDER.

Highest compression of the available storage formats results in lost data = poor video quality... especially if you have any intention of ever editing. The DVD based camcorders will compress into a VOB file typically not useful directly by most video editors. That typically means ripping the DVD or using the analog AV cables that come with the camcorder and transferring low-quality analog video through a analog/digital bridge.

DO NOT BUY A DVD BASED CAMCORDER.

The BEST quality video comes from camcorders that use miniDV tape (which record into DV format for standard definition video). There is very little compression applied and if your computer has a firewire port, DV can be editied by pretty much any video editing application. You will use the DV port of the camcorder connected to the firewire port of your computer - using a firewire cable (firewire, i.Link, IEEE1394 are all the same thing).

DO NOT BUY A DVD BASED CAMCORDER.

Higher video quality than DVD based and not quite miniDV tape based camcorder video quality are the hard drive and certain higher-end flash based camcorder - they typically compress a lot into a MPEG file format. Most (not all) video editors can deal with this with not additional codecs - but the translation apps are available for all editing apps to deal with them.

DO NOT BUY A DVD BASED CAMCORDER.

When you use MiniDV tape, it is your "archive". Fill a 60 minute tape, pop out the tape, put in a new one and start rolling. I can use around 5 seconds from the time I press stop, replace a tape and am recording again.

When you use a hard drive based or flash memory based camcorder, what happens when you run out of memory? You need to transfer video to a computer, delete the files from the camcorder and start shooting again. Yes, they hold menay hours of video - you have to be sure to clean it out each time - just like you need to remember to carry blank tapes.

DO NOT BUY A DVD BASED CAMCORDER.

Video on things for sale is only part of the whole ecosystem. Most low-end and mid-range camcorders do not have any manual audio control and have to rely on an auto audio leveling circuit. For the most part, this auto-audio gain mechanism cannot deal with loud music - this can be loud from a marching band or loud from amplified instruments. The resulting audio will be muddy and not usable. You can either find a Sony camcorder (DCR-HC28, DCR-HC96) that has a menu selection for normal or low gain for the audio or you can use an external device to control the gain (like a BeachTek XLR adapter - but you would be using a camcorder with a mic-in jack and XLR mics) or you can find a camcorder with manual audio control. The least expensive ones I know of are the Canon HV20 or Sony HDR-HC7.

DO NOT BUY A DVD BASED CAMCORDER.

Both the Sony DCR-HC28 and DCR-HC96 do not have a proper mic-in jack - they do have a Sony proprietary "active interface" shoe. Normally, that would mean you are locked into using ONLY Sony proprietary mics that work with the proprietary shoe... but, if you get http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/47... ... then you can use any mic or XLR adapter with a 1/8" jack. B&H is the only place these seem to exist - you can't even get them directly from Sony!

DO NOT BUY A DVD BASED CAMCORDER.

What kind of digital camera should I get?

Anonymous.

So there.
