Hey, i am looking for a digital video camera for personal use and also because i coach a high school footbal teama nd tired of the dang VHS i was wondering on where the best site is to ge one, which one s the best to get, and how exactly does it work? do you put in a dvd or what? if not what other equipment is needed to take the recored video and put it on a dvd? thanks alot!

I film for a high school football team and we use two MiniDV cameras. For your use, MiniDV is probably the best choice. It records on a very small digital tape. These cameras are generally the cheapest digital camcorders, but have excellent flexibility. DVD camcorders are available that record directly to a small DVD, however these cost more and can only record about 20 min on a DVD. The third option is a hard drive camcorder, which costs even more, but saves video clips onto an internal drive. This makes transferring the clips to a computer easy, but once the hard drive is full (most can record a few hours), you have to dump the video onto a computer or delete it before recording again. As far as where to buy, www.bhphotovideo.com and www.abesofmaine.com are the best. Both have great prices and are reputable. Some online stores might have better prices, but do not include things like the power cord that should be included. They will then charge you an arm and a leg for these "accessories." Good luck with your purchase.

I want to make some movies. I would like a video camera that supports hot shoe. I would like it to have a fairly decent fps count over like 100. I want it to be hard drive have a good zoom and it be HD. A good image stabilization. " video tape little brother's football games" and I would like it to have support with adobe programs.

Most camcorders shoot at 29.97 frames per second (FPS). Most people just call it 30 FPS. The Sony cams has a burst of higher frame rate called "smooth slow record".

Use a tripod or monopod for stability. Be sure to get a couple of extra rechargeable high capacity batteries - no camcorder comes with a "good" battery in the box.

The four camcorders listed can be manual or auto focus, zoom, exposure, shutter. These cameras also have mic-in jack and manual audio control. The Sony's have a LANC port (wire remote) that is very useful. All of them can also use optional wide-angle or tele lenses.

Best video quality continues to come from miniDV tape based camcorders and all four can have standard definition or high definition video edited by the current version of Adobe video editors.

If you decide you want to use internal hard drive based HD camcorders, be aware that the MPEG2 compressed video (standard definition) and AVCHD compressed (high definition) causes loss of data resulting in reduced video qualitty when compared to miniDV tape recording DV or HDV. Also be advised that the Adobe video editors *might* support Canon AVCHD but not Sony AVCHD camcorders.

DO NOT BUY A DVD BASED CAMCORDER.

If you go with the recommended miniDV tape based camcorder, you will need to have a firewire port on your computer for importing the video.

What kind of security surveillance do I need?

We have been robbed 3 times in the past year by the same people. I'm done playing games and I'm ready to invest some money into whatever I need to catch these thieves. My situation is rather difficult to explain but it will do my best to help convey what problems I'm running into.

*I live on a farm but the area that I'm worried about covers 2 about aces. A football field across.
-The house, a pool house in the backyard, two conjoined butler buildings off to the right from the house, and another butler building off to the right of the conjoined buildings.

*The main areas we want to cover is are the 3 building doors (outside) and and a 4th outdoor camera to overlook the house/pool-house.

*The house is a smaller 2 story house and could put a wireless receiver at the upper floor but unsure about how far the signal would get to before being faded or disrupted by the metal roofing of the butler buildings.

*I do have a home network dlink router in the upper floor away from the building, but the signal will not reach even close to where I need it to be. So I have thought about 2 wireless signals disrupting it. So i will need an option for 2.4g or 5 ghz signals.

*We have running electric in all buildings but cant have wires running from the buildings to the house. for obvious reasons.

*I can't have wires laying outside to my house. yet a wireless signal will have to be able to cover the distance and still get enough signal for fluid video camera footage inside my home.

*I need outdoor, nightvision, motion detection cameras with enough storage to keep enough video on it for 4 cameras.

If someone could provide some professional or personal insight on this I would be very grateful. I never had to worry about this before but now I think that I need to have it. Thank you for reading this and I very much like links to surveillance system bundles. :D

My budget is pretty low so nothing fancy.
My friend is selling Samsung HMX-F80BP, and I want to know can this one record soccer/football games. I would use tripod and just go left right left right with occasional zooming.

I also thought about Canon vixia m30 or r30 but those are a bit over budget so I probably will reconsider them in a few months.

How can I import my video from this camera?

I'm using a 12" Powerbook G4 Laptop and a Sony DCR-DVD408 video camera. The camera I usually use records with tapes and is easy to import into iMovie. I have this camera on loan from my football coach and I need an easy way to upload the video from the camera to my computer. I really don't have a lot of time and money to order a converter/adapter, so I was wondering what the easiest way to import my video was.

I don't know much about them and the info out there doesn't really break it down from the basics to the advanced. All I know is what they have at the local stores. How do I choose a good family video camera? Of course budget is a factor, but remove that and tell me what to look for/where to look/how to differentiate.

DVD camcorders are never a good choice! Since it's a family camcorder I'll make a couple of assumptions - you'll want to keep the video for a long time and it needs to be fairly robust. Look for an entry level MiniDV camcorder - they record to tapes which can be kept for years and, while you can't use them as footballs, they're able to stand some rough treatment. Don't get too hung up on the specs - get something that feels right, with the controls where you expect to find them, and that's within your budget. Don't bother about how much optical zoom a camcorder's got - they're all adequate, and ignore digital zoom completely. I'd avoid camcorders with touch screen controls (sticky fingers!) and look for something with a viewfinder so it's easier to use in bright sunlight.

You'll see a lot of (usually cheap) camcorders that record to memory cards. These are great for recording a few minutes of the kids playing and then watching the results straight away - they're not so good for the long term, though.

90% of the video that's shot is crap! That's not me being snotty, it's a law of nature (you should see MY 90%)! If you want something that people will watch more than once you'll need to edit it. You'll need to capture the video via firewire - if your PC hasn't already got one you'll need to install a firewire card. They're cheap, easy to install and readily available. You'll also need a firewire cable. You can then edit the video using Windows Movie Maker.

In movies and music videos what kind of camera do they use to film it. I noticed the picture is so clear, and I wanted to know if they used a speacial kind. And how much would one cost?

The other posters are correct - but for a little more detail... typically, the professionals do not use consumer-grade camcorders. Even if it looks like they are using a consumer camera, that video is not used - it is typically captured by a pro-grade camera and the video is made to look like it was captured by a consumer cam.

*I live on a farm but the area that I'm worried about covers 2 about aces. A football field across.
-The house, a pool house in the backyard, two conjoined butler buildings off to the right from the house, and another butler building off to the right of the conjoined buildings.

*The main areas we want to cover is are the 3 building doors (outside) and and a 4th outdoor camera to overlook the house/pool-house.

*The house is a smaller 2 story house and could put a wireless receiver at the upper floor but unsure about how far the signal would get to before being faded or disrupted by the metal roofing of the butler buildings.

*I do have a home network dlink router in the upper floor away from the building, but the signal will not reach even close to where I need it to be. So I have thought about 2 wireless signals disrupting it. So i will need an option for 2.4g or 5 ghz signals.

*We have running electric in all buildings but cant have wires running from the buildings to the house. for obvious reasons.

*I can't have wires laying outside to my house. yet a wireless signal will have to be able to cover the distance and still get enough signal for fluid video camera footage inside my home.

*I need outdoor, nightvision, motion detection cameras with enough storage to keep enough video on it for 4 cameras.

*I live on a farm but the area that I'm worried about covers 2 about aces. A football field across.

I want to film my brothers soccer games and training so I wanted to buy a camcorder.
My budget is pretty low so nothing fancy.
My friend is selling Samsung HMX-F80BP, and I want to know can this one record soccer/football games. I would use tripod and just go left right left right with occasional zooming.

I also thought about Canon vixia m30 or r30 but those are a bit over budget so I probably will reconsider them in a few months.

It looks like this -one frame from the lens assembly, 7or 8 from the electronic circuitry, one frame from the lens assembly, 7or 8 from the electronic circuitry, one frame from the lens assembly, 7or 8 from the electronic circuitry, one frame from the lens assembly, 7or 8 from the electronic circuitry, from front to back of the video. Near impossible to edit, even when you have the Multi port processor computer with the big 1GB Graphics card and a Sound card that is required to edit, view, watch and work with the files these camcorders produce.

Consumer Level HD Camcorders and DSLR Cameras have 4 problems. 1) Blurry, fuzzy, out of focus areas closely around people in videos taken by consumer level HD camcorders. 2) Any movement, even a wave or lifting an arm, while in front of a recording Consumer Level HD Camcorder and DSLR Cameras, results in screen ghosts and artifacts being left on the video track, following the movement. Makes for bad video, sports videos are unwatchable. 3) These Consumer Level HD Camcorders and DSLR Cameras all have a habit of the transferred to computer files are something you need to convert, thus losing your HD quality, to work with your editing software. 4) Mandatory maximum record times - 1 hour, 30 minutes, 8 minutes, 3 minutes – four different times advertised as maximum record time for some Consumer Level HD Camcorders and DSLR Cameras. No event I have ever been to is that short. Either take multiple camcorders and DSLR Cameras or pack up with out getting the end of the event on video.

Each MiniDV tape will typically hold an hour of footage at normal recording speed and quality. MiniDV tapes are available for purchase at not only electronic and camera stores, but also at drugs stores and grocery stores, making them easy to find while your on vacation. There are literally hundreds of MiniDV camcorders available; both in standard and high-definition. Anything with 720 p or higher is pretty good if you are hoping to make a scholarship video for coaches.

I don't know much about them and the info out there doesn't really break it down from the basics to the advanced. All I know is what they have at the local stores. How do I choose a good family video camera? Of course budget is a factor, but remove that and tell me what to look for/where to look/how to differentiate.

DVD camcorders are never a good choice! Since it's a family camcorder I'll make a couple of assumptions - you'll want to keep the video for a long time and it needs to be fairly robust. Look for an entry level MiniDV camcorder - they record to tapes which can be kept for years and, while you can't use them as footballs, they're able to stand some rough treatment. Don't get too hung up on the specs - get something that feels right, with the controls where you expect to find them, and that's within your budget. Don't bother about how much optical zoom a camcorder's got - they're all adequate, and ignore digital zoom completely. I'd avoid camcorders with touch screen controls (sticky fingers!) and look for something with a viewfinder so it's easier to use in bright sunlight.

You'll see a lot of (usually cheap) camcorders that record to memory cards. These are great for recording a few minutes of the kids playing and then watching the results straight away - they're not so good for the long term, though.

90% of the video that's shot is crap! That's not me being snotty, it's a law of nature (you should see MY 90%)! If you want something that people will watch more than once you'll need to edit it. You'll need to capture the video via firewire - if your PC hasn't already got one you'll need to install a firewire card. They're cheap, easy to install and readily available. You'll also need a firewire cable. You can then edit the video using Windows Movie Maker.

I'm using a 12" Powerbook G4 Laptop and a Sony DCR-DVD408 video camera. The camera I usually use records with tapes and is easy to import into iMovie. I have this camera on loan from my football coach and I need an easy way to upload the video from the camera to my computer. I really don't have a lot of time and money to order a converter/adapter, so I was wondering what the easiest way to import my video was.

We have been robbed 3 times in the past year by the same people. I'm done playing games and I'm ready to invest some money into whatever I need to catch these thieves. My situation is rather difficult to explain but it will do my best to help convey what problems I'm running into.

*I live on a farm but the area that I'm worried about covers 2 about aces. A football field across.
-The house, a pool house in the backyard, two conjoined butler buildings off to the right from the house, and another butler building off to the right of the conjoined buildings.

*The main areas we want to cover is are the 3 building doors (outside) and and a 4th outdoor camera to overlook the house/pool-house.

*The house is a smaller 2 story house and could put a wireless receiver at the upper floor but unsure about how far the signal would get to before being faded or disrupted by the metal roofing of the butler buildings.

*I do have a home network dlink router in the upper floor away from the building, but the signal will not reach even close to where I need it to be. So I have thought about 2 wireless signals disrupting it. So i will need an option for 2.4g or 5 ghz signals.

*We have running electric in all buildings but cant have wires running from the buildings to the house. for obvious reasons.

*I can't have wires laying outside to my house. yet a wireless signal will have to be able to cover the distance and still get enough signal for fluid video camera footage inside my home.

*I need outdoor, nightvision, motion detection cameras with enough storage to keep enough video on it for 4 cameras.

If someone could provide some professional or personal insight on this I would be very grateful. I never had to worry about this before but now I think that I need to have it. Thank you for reading this and I very much like links to surveillance system bundles. :D

I don't know much about them and the info out there doesn't really break it down from the basics to the advanced. All I know is what they have at the local stores. How do I choose a good family video camera? Of course budget is a factor, but remove that and tell me what to look for/where to look/how to differentiate.

DVD camcorders are never a good choice! Since it's a family camcorder I'll make a couple of assumptions - you'll want to keep the video for a long time and it needs to be fairly robust. Look for an entry level MiniDV camcorder - they record to tapes which can be kept for years and, while you can't use them as footballs, they're able to stand some rough treatment. Don't get too hung up on the specs - get something that feels right, with the controls where you expect to find them, and that's within your budget. Don't bother about how much optical zoom a camcorder's got - they're all adequate, and ignore digital zoom completely. I'd avoid camcorders with touch screen controls (sticky fingers!) and look for something with a viewfinder so it's easier to use in bright sunlight.

You'll see a lot of (usually cheap) camcorders that record to memory cards. These are great for recording a few minutes of the kids playing and then watching the results straight away - they're not so good for the long term, though.

90% of the video that's shot is crap! That's not me being snotty, it's a law of nature (you should see MY 90%)! If you want something that people will watch more than once you'll need to edit it. You'll need to capture the video via firewire - if your PC hasn't already got one you'll need to install a firewire card. They're cheap, easy to install and readily available. You'll also need a firewire cable. You can then edit the video using Windows Movie Maker.

How do I record with a video camera and watch at the same time?

I coach football and I would like to hook a camera up to a laptop to allow me to re-watch plays while someone next to me continues to record the game. Is there any software of hook-up that would allow me to do that?

Video servers of the type used in broadcast television stations sometimes have the "playback while still recording" option. Not laptop class equipment. try google to get vendors for video servers.

Which camcorder is good for filming soccer games?

I want to film my brothers soccer games and training so I wanted to buy a camcorder.
My budget is pretty low so nothing fancy.
My friend is selling Samsung HMX-F80BP, and I want to know can this one record soccer/football games. I would use tripod and just go left right left right with occasional zooming.

I also thought about Canon vixia m30 or r30 but those are a bit over budget so I probably will reconsider them in a few months.

Near impossible to edit, even when you have the Multi port processor computer with the big 1GB Graphics card and a Sound card that is required to edit, view, watch and work with the files these camcorders produce.

Consumer Level HD Camcorders and DSLR Cameras have 4 problems. 1) Blurry, fuzzy, out of focus areas closely around people in videos taken by consumer level HD camcorders. 2) Any movement, even a wave or lifting an arm, while in front of a recording Consumer Level HD Camcorder and DSLR Cameras, results in screen ghosts and artifacts being left on the video track, following the movement. Makes for bad video, sports videos are unwatchable. 3) These Consumer Level HD Camcorders and DSLR Cameras all have a habit of the transferred to computer files are something you need to convert, thus losing your HD quality, to work with your editing software. 4) Mandatory maximum record times - 1 hour, 30 minutes, 8 minutes, 3 minutes – four different times advertised as maximum record time for some Consumer Level HD Camcorders and DSLR Cameras. Low compression video capture/storage. In your price range, this means NOTHING that records to flash memory or hard disc drive - because they use very high compression AVCHD. This also means you are limited to miniDV tape (because the external memory recorder modules for HDV are about 2x your budget) and the ONLY camcorder - new - that comes close is the Canon HV40. Be sure to use a decent tripod. Also, be sure to learn to use the white balance so the view of being "under the lights" is not too bad.
