What are the benefits of having a video camera to use in the classroom?

Q. I teach first grade at a rural school in Alabama. I want to purchase a video camera so I can record experiments, plays, and learning that is taking place in the classroom. The recordings will then be transferred to the school website for the community to see or to a DVD for students and parents to enjoy. I have to write a GREAT proposal to get the camera. What are other benefits of having a video camera for classroom use? Thanks!

A. This is great for both you and the students. When recording students' plays, upon review the students will be able to monitor their fluency/expression/prosody and then improve it. Repeated performances and viewings will show growth.

Invite local community officials and leaders in to speak to the children and record it. Use this as a model for students to develop a short minute speech about a topic. Record it. Show it back to them. The possibilities are endless.

For science simply tape different environments and have students make observations, compare/ contrast.

Here are a couple of links:

http://content.scholastic.com/browse/article.jsp?id=6753
http://www.woodworkingteachers.com/Default.aspx?g=posts&t=380

As you know already, this benefits you as well. Although all teachers have built in with-it-ness, things still go unnoticed. You will be able to assess students long after the moment has already played out. Also, you will improve by critiquing yourself and delivery to your students.

Good Luck!

I need recommendations for good video camera for home use?
Q. We are currently preparing for the birth of our first child and plan on using a video camera. What cameras would you recommend on purchasing?

A. The Panasonic HDC-SD9 might be what you're looking for!

It's very compact, fits into your jeans' pocket, records in full hd (1920*1080), records 5.1 surround sound, 3 CCD! etc.

It's cheap and a really good buddy. I have one and I prefer it over the Sony PMW-EX1 when I am traveling or taking home videos.

The low-light performs is fair. You can set some settings manually such as the white balance, shutter and iris.

I hope I could help you and wish you the best!!

How do I compress or make a file of a family movie smaller to be used to attach and send through email?
Q. I have a small videos of my children that I took with my kodak easy share digital camera, one is 38 seconds and the other is 45 seconds long. My mom lives in another country and I haven't seen her in seven years and she had moved away before I met and married my husband and had babies (now 3yr old and 1yr old). Because she has never seen my babies I'm always emailing pics that I took with my new kodak easy share camera...I noticed just a few days ago that I could also record my children on it like a video camera but with no sound. I tried emailing them as attachments but on both my yahoo and msn emails, they only attach a max. of 10 mb and even though these are small videos they are like 11 - 13 mb so I'm wondering if there is a way to make them smaller, please, so that my mom can see her grandbabies for the first time moving around playing, instead of being still in a picture.

A. I think you can right click the folder then compress into a zip or rar file....the other person has to have the proper program to run it though. I may be wrong on this though....

How can I set up my English classroom for a short play?

Q. We were assigned a short production in my high school English class, about 20-25 minutes. The setting is Upper East Side Manhattan, think Gossip Girl. The predicament is we don't know how to set up our bland classroom into the inside of a posh NYC apartment. Does anyone have good ideas for how to design this scenario, what props to use, how to make a backdrop? It's a modern take on Shakespeare's 12th Night.

A. when i think NYC and Gossip Girl, I'd say:

- get a curtain that'll fit into the window frame on a curtain rod or just duct tape it up, with a fancy print on it. if u have to buy one, u could always return it.

- little side table or stool with modern vase with flowers (for example, tall clear rectangle vase, a few calla lilies) and some fashion magazines (if u dont have any, borrow some from the library)

- fashionable rug thats 5' x 3' or something. (also returnable, just make sure u keep it clean)

- nice-looking armchair or small loveseat, even a fancy bench. if u only have a plain one of these, drape a patterned sheet or think blanket over it.

- for a backdrop, if u teacher has a Smartboard, put up a pic of an aerial view of NYC skyscrapers. if not, use a projector to project such image onto the whiteboard.

-for a nice touch, get some typical NYC background sound playing (whether off a laptop or ipod w/ speakers). you know, car horns honking, bus sounds, car alarms going off, brakes. if ur not all that computer savvy, record some sounds off your computer thats playing youtube videos with those sounds with a camera (that can record sound, obviously) or just sit in a bus stop and record street noises.

is it legal for a teacher to record a class to keep track of the happenings and get a student into trouble?
Q. a teacher at my school is recording my class so she can keep track of who is doing work and who isn't... she is then going to use the videos to get people into trouble for not working? is it not true that you have to have permission from at least parents in order to do that? personally i dont think what she is doing is right. and if its not right i want back up and proof that it is wrong and take it to her. can anyone help me to find where i can find information on the matter?

A. Is it legal? I think it depends on the state and the circumstances.

I know in NY we are not allowed to film a classroom for any reason without ALL of the parents permission.

Security cameras in the hallway are a totally different story legally speaking.

I would speak to the principal about it, if she is doing it with the principal's permission chances are it is legal (principals are usually the most scared of law suits).

Can a teacher tape children in class without a parents consent?
Q. My 9 year old came home and told me that his teacher put a video recorder in their room that records their behavior. Is this legal in Canada to do this?

A. I do not know about Canada. There is no law against it in the USA. Most public schools now have cameras in the hallways, parking lots, libraries, cafeteria, etc. In the classroom teachers often record student teachers, or their own performance. The only thing that can't be done with the videos is to make them public & identify the children. They can be used for court cases, evaluations etc.

canon DSLR best model of 2012?

Q. I'm looking into getting one , just wondering if there's a good model that can take a good quality videos and cameras

A. One of the best model should be the EOS Rebel T3i. Featuring Canon’s newest DIGIC 4 Image Processor and an 18.0 Megapixel CMOS Image Sensor plus cutting-edge technologies like Full HD video recording, Live View shooting, Wireless flash photography and even a Vari-angle 3.0-inch LCD monitor, this camera has everything you need to get great results if you know what you're doing.

If you're looking to the basics of photography from aperture, shutter speed, and ISO to lighting and color quality, this is a great beginning camera.

Do any Officers notice a significant increase in the amount of people recording interactions with the police?

Confiscated cellphone at Times Square shooting reignites debate over photographing police
-
On Saturday, 51-year-old Darrius Kennedy was approached by police for reportedly smoking marijuana in Times Square, but the attempted arrest quickly turned violent. When the police came near Kennedy, he backed away and drew what has been variously described as a 6-inch or 11-inch kitchen knife. After pursuing Kennedy for seven blocks, officers eventually cornered him, ordering him to drop the weapon and then fatally shooting him. As dramatic as the event was, what's truly captured people's attention is the huge amount of video footage surrounding it.

Taking place in one of the most tourist-heavy parts of New York, the altercation was seen by a crowd of witnesses, many of whom followed the officers with DSLRs and cellphone cameras aloft and later uploaded the videos to YouTube or sent them to news outlets. Brazilian visitor Lincoln Rocha, who took one of the most iconic images, told the Associated Press that he was sure Kennedy would be shot by police once he drew his knife. "If they're going to kill him," Rocha said, "I want to take some pictures, I want to record it." Others had the same idea, to the point where the suspect and police in videos are usually less prominent than the crowds of photographers following them.

But the widely documented event has also reignited a long-running debate over the NYPD's treatment of photographers. According to The New York Times, Boston native Julian Miller was pulled aside by an officer after recording the incident, apparently including the shooting itself — something that was not shown in any released video. "His eyes got big when he saw the video," said Miller. "He went to go show his boss, and then they took my phone away." The officer apparently also told him not to speak to the media.

Police would not confirm to us whether they confiscated a phone and declined comment. If the video indeed captured the shooting, it's likely it could be used as evidence in an investigation, something that is allowed by New York law according to a 2009 directive. According to the Department of Justice's handbook on the subject, witnesses to a crime are also routinely advised not to speak to media, though they may choose to do so. For the police to view the video, they must get a search warrant, and it's unclear whether they are required to return the recording afterwards, as is the case in Washington, DC.
Unfortunately for the NYPD, this incident comes only a week after freelance photographer Robert Stolarik allegedly had his camera slammed into his face and was wrestled to the ground by police after taking pictures of an arrest. The NYPD charged Stolarik with obstructing government administration and resisting arrest, claiming he had struck an officer in the face with his camera and then "violently" resisted being taken into custody. Around the same time, the New York Civil Liberties Union condemned officers for blocking photography at Occupy Wall Street protests and reportedly posting mug shots of a couple who filmed stop-and-frisk encounters. The Department of Justice has issued a blanket rebuke of officers across the US who attempt to stop bystanders from filming them, but it's not at all clear that it's being followed.

As law enforcement actions go, the Times Square shooting was fairly unambiguous. Video evidence and witness testimony confirm that the suspect was both armed and resisting arrest — even if concerns have been raised about the use of deadly force — and officers have legitimate reason to want what's on Miller's phone if it corroborates those details. But after so many cases of police confiscating cameras or preventing recording without justification, it will be difficult to convince the public that they're acting in good faith this time around.

(Video on link doesnt show the actual shooting)

A. I'm sure it's a topic they are well aware of now. I'd bet money every chief of police in the USA has had talks with their officers about this very topic. It is putting a new light on law enforcement.

IMO it is a good thing. While I feel most officers are good guys trying to do the right thing. Some make mistakes and others are bad apples. The wide availability of cameras is now exposing the truth.

If cops have cameras on suspects and people. People can have cameras on cops!

Canon T2i, t3i or Nikon D3200?
Q. I am looking to purchase a new camera mainly for the purpose of video. I plan to make all my youtube videos and short films on it, so I'm not too focused on the still picture side. I wanted to go with the t2i originally but is the t3i worth the extra $100? Also, is the Nikon D3200 better than both of them (with video)? Thanks!
I am looking to see which is better in VIDEO not still pictures!

A. fhotoace always recommend Nikon cameras. When EVERYONE knows that Canon DSLR's outperform all of Nikon's cameras in video. Don't be entirely persuaded by his Top Contributor Title as most people and even he probably knows that Nikon has always been behind Canon in video. ALWAYS.

http://improvephotography.com/227/differences-canon-vs-nikon-dslr-cameras/
Have a look at that 2012 Article and see what it says about which brand should be used for video.

And if you want some real visual proof. Have a look at this comparison between the Canon Rebel T3i and the similarly priced and features Nikon D5100.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=zsLsOjeRkAg#!

Notice at the 7:30 mark when he has the T3i in his hand, he has to use the D5100 to record. Pay attention to the video and audio quality until the 8:18 mark where he has the D5100 in his hand and has the T3i recording. The Canon obviously has better video and audio quality.

I also read and heard in this comparison: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=79v5QsM4kRQ
One of the first things the guy says is that the Canon is better than the Nikon at video. He says it in the comments as well.

If you need more proof than that then you should look up what other people think and I really hope no one says that Nikon has better video quality.

So the better choice is the Rebel T3i, no matter how new the D3200 is... Plus the vari angle LCD screen really comes in handy with video, but if you don't think it's worth the extra $100 then the T2i is basically the same thing.

If you need any more help, possibly finding the correct first lens to buy or accessories, just send me an email. Glad to help.

What cameras are good for recording youtube cover videos?

Q. I'm a singer and I'll be posting some acoustic and instrumental videos of my singing on youtube. I just really need a good camera. I was thinking about a Cannon but I don't know which one would be best for recording vocals. I have a budget of about $150. Please help, I'm looking for a decently priced camera with a good microphone on the video camera. Thanks.

A. Hmmm.. You might not get much with $150. I thought so, until I started looking more into good cameras. I went from looking at a $150 camera, to a $400 camera, and now I'm saving up for a $800 DSLR that has FANTASTIC quality and you are able to attach the good quality microphones you need to get great sound. Just in case you're curious, I'll show you which cameras I was looking at, all of which are great cameras!

1.) Canon PowerShot SX130 IS - $150. This is a GREAT camera for the price. I believe if you are really on a budget and don't feel like saving up, then you should definitely get THIS camera! No other! This camera. It has great picture quality and HD video. The microphone is pretty good too. So this would be the camera if you are on this budget.

2.) Canon PowerShot SX40 HS - $400. This camera is called a bridge camera (better than a Point-And-Shoot, but not the level of a DSLR). It can take great pictures similar to a DSLR (which is the cameras professionals use). The video is HD and GREAT, and better than the Canon PowerShot SX130 IS that I listed above. It is also a superzoom camera. It has the look of a DSLR also. It's a great camera!

3.) Canon EOS Rebel T3i - $800. This is the camera I'm now saving up for. It's a DSLR. It's just amazing. It shoots spectacular video. Of course it can take great pictures because it's a DSLR. Lol. But, this camera his this just perfect. Lol, for me it is anyways. But again, I'm quite serious about it, so I mean yeah.

You can check out the Canon Vixia camcorders if you just want a camera for shooting video. I don't know how much they run but probably not too much. Probably a little over your budget. But if you want a simple all around camera for pictures and video, and you are on this strict budget of $150, I strongly recommend the Canon PowerShot SX130 Is. The upgrade version is Canon PowerShot Sx150 IS, but it's probably $20 more.

Good luck! I hope you find what you want! :)

How can I record Video and Audio separately?
Q. I have a video camera that I would like to use due to it's high quality video, but since I am recording myself doing vocal covers for youtube, I have a rock band mic plugged into a usb port on my computer and would like to use the audio from that. I don't want to record them separately, I just want the video to be taken from the camera and the audio to be taken from the mic. Is there any way to do this?

A. Sure, in fact it is the preferred way as consumer grade camcorders don't record audio very well, especially music and singing. When you begin your recording session, use a sound marker; I use a clapper board but you can use a hand clap (my friend uses a dog training clicker). When you edit your video, add your mic'ed recoding to the time-line and after you line it up with the video (and audio) track and match the "clap", then delete the audio track of the video. If you mess up, you can always use the Back function of your editor (the editor doesn't actually edit the original video file, it makes a copy to work with).

Can we do something like SETI at home with a million cellphone cameras?
Q. If more than a few million dollars have been spent on the ET among us topic, directed toward the truth, the details have been kept secret and/or deliberately sabotaged = not necessarily a conspiracy = possibly independent sabotaging = It does not take many vocal dissenters to sway the vast slightly interested majority to negative and/or disinterested.

A million video cameras could record non stop pointed approximately straight up, daily from dusk to dawn, but 99.99% of the footage would be too boring for humans to watch. Accurate slant range can be calculated when two or more cameras catch the same event, provided the zoom setting can be quantified. But was it the same event? = most would be a tiny spot of light. Timing pulses recorded on one of the audio channels would greatly increase confidence that it was the the same event. Perhaps you can see a million dollars per year barely starts to make the program effective. Money for unattended equipment that is stolen, for lots of bits or bytes of data storage, for shipping cost to and from some central data processing centers. For internet bandwidth when the broadband data is sent by internet.
I'm not qualified to do any portion of this project, except a telephone tree/ would one of you like to start the process with a few video cameras per square kilometer in your dark sky community as a pilot program?
Approximately straight up so ET can't determine where the dead spots are. Do we need to know how many degrees of arc from the zenith each camera or telescope is pointing. GPS data on the other audio channel or multiplexed if there is only one audio channel. Likely user comments should also be recorded, which hopefully will remove some doubts about the data. I suppose some people will submit fake data, just because they can, and for other reasons. Please correct my assumptions and add details. Neil

A. NASA has a network of cameras to track meteors. It would also track UFOs. It would be a cold day before I would leave my cellphone laying on the picnic table all year long.

What video cameras will stream live to an HDTV through HDMI?

Q. My church has an HDTV in the basement. We would like to stream the service to this TV. Looking for a video camera that will output a live feed via HDMI.

A. You should go with Canon VIXIA HF S20 Dual Flash Memory Camcorder - 2010 MODEL

Records up to 12 hours of crisp high definition video to a 32GB internal flash drive or directly to two removable SD memory cards
Genuine Canon 10x HD Video Lens
Canon 1/2.6" 8.59-Megapixel Full HD CMOS Image Sensor captures video at 1920 x 1080 resolution
Canon DIGIC DV III Image Processor
Dynamic SuperRange OIS corrects a full range of motion

does anyone know how to get a dvdr dis to play on other dvd players?
Q. I am working with a magnavox dvd player/recorder mwr 10D6 and am using it to record church services by camera. After I finish recording the service on a blank dvdr disc, I remove it from the player and put it in my laptop afterwards, and I get a message saying the disc is blank (which is something I see as odd because it has video burned to it). The remote for this player has no finalize button. Does anyone know how to fix this?

A. If you wanna make a DVD that will work on a standard DVD player, you will need a DVD burning tool to do this. Just copy the movie to a DVD disc, it will actually not read by DVD players.

The best and most reliable DVD burning tool that I've ever used is a tool called DVD Creator. It's able to burn all kinds of videos to DVD disc. After that, you can view the DVD on DVD player. It also lets you edit videos and create DVD menus. Easy to use and professional.

You should really give it a try. You may check out at:

Best of luck.

Does the nikon coolpix l110 have a firewire?
Q. I need to know so I can record my church services and later make videos and dvds out of them. I was wondering about the firewire because the camera can only take 19 minute videos at a time and it always is a .MOV file and not a .AVI file (desired). So I want to record it onto my computer instead of the camera memory card. Thanks in advance for your help!

A. That I know of there's not a digital camera made that uses firewire - all are usb2

Are small video cameras allowed inside the Q for the Cleveland Cavaliers games?

Q. Are small video cameras allowed inside the Q for the Cleveland Cavaliers games? I am going for the playoff game tomorrow and was going to take a small vid camera just for pregame and team introduction vids at the Q. I know you can take a small handycam/vid camera inside the Browns stadium, I wonder if that holds true for Cavs games too?
Thanks in advance

A. Quicken Loans Arena policiies prohibit video recorders:

What you are not permitted to carry into Quicken Loans Arena

* No video recorders, audio recorders, or other similar electronic devices
* No laser pointers or weapons
* No backpacks, large bags, sealed packages of any kind (including gifts for performers)
* No bottles, cans, coolers
* No outside food or beverages. Exceptions are made for medical reasons, baby food and reasonable children’s snacks (crackers, raisins, juice boxes, etc.)

http://www.theqarena.com/arenainfo/policies/

Small cameras are permitted for Cavs games:

Camera Policy
The camera policy is determined by each show, and therefore varies from event to event. Cameras are permitted for Cavaliers games. If allowed, cameras will be inspected at designated turnstiles and must be no more than 6 inches in length and 4 inches wide across the lens. Anything greater than this is considered professional equipment and is not permitted in The Q. Call Event Information at (216) 420-2200 or toll free (800) 332-2287 to find out the camera policy for other events.

http://www.theqarena.com/arenainfo/policies/

Obviously, some smalll cameras and even cellphones can record short video clips. I don't know if security would confiscate such devices if they thought the user was making a video recording.

Go Cavs!!!

Do American families actually watch all the stuff they record on video cameras?
Q. I'm talking about all the games their children play in sports leagues and at school, and all the events that take place at their children's schools. Plus birthdays, Christmas, and vacations. I understand that not every American family records everything on video, but based on American movies, Youtube videos and American tourists I've seen in Europe, I would assume that there are many families who record at least 30 hours per year. Do they actually ever watch that stuff again on television?

A. At some point in their lives, yes they do watch the videos they took, some people, a lot more often then other people do. It all depends on the people in any one family X the population of North America

Name of the movie where kids kill their parents?
Q. There's this movie about these two "normal" kids living with their parent's, they dad buys a video camera and starts recording the family memories, and begins to notice the kids acting a bit strange, and soon discovers the dog "murdered" inside of their fort/house that reads "no parents allowed". They then drug their parent's with sleeping pills after "feeding them" and when they get loose they pass out, the mother tries to run away and the children chase her, i fell asleep at this point and is all i remember, anyone know the name?

A. no idea but it may help if you log on to 2010freemovies.com. you might find the answer there. happy viewing

Small digital camera that records HD video in WMV format?
Q. So I bought a Canon SD1400, which records 720p video in MOV format. I don't like MOV, b/c I can't open multiple files as a playlist like I can with WMV movies. So I want a good, small digital camera that records HD video in the WMV format. Any ideas?

A. Well the facts are as stated, there aren't any that shoot in wmv. Hey, I don't like mov either but that's what my eos t1i does. I like the camera and the brand enough that I was willing to sacrifice a little convience for the sake of high quality.

I'm using an editor by Roxio called Creator. It includes a converter that does my work in getting to
wmv. It also maintains the quality which, by the way, the cheap download programs won't do. I know I've tried and the quality goes straight in the trash. Retail for Creator about $100.

What cheap camera to buy that has autofocus while you record?
Q. Hey I would like a nice cheap compact digital camera that can autofocus while you record a video. Im not looking for any HD ones just a cheap normal one.

A. As a professional, I have to say that you should definitely go with Nikon, Canon, or Olympus, they have the best quality and performance.

If you want a good camera for under $100, I recommend this one. It has a great video feature.

Can a employer install video cameras with microphones?

Q. In the kitchen where i work there is already one video camera in the main kitchen that videos the majority of the kitchen and the exit door for security.

this camera is due to be replaced and also another camera added to film another part of the kitchen where there is no security risk and the only reason i can see for it is to check if people are working!

Also both new cameras will be equipped to record sound?

Is it legal to record video and sound in the workplace?

What are the rules or restrictions?

Is there any goverment guidelines?

By the way this is for the U.K!

A. That is totally strange as why would they want volumes also and another camera if they have one already. Is the owner and bosses all paranoid or having some issues to do all this as it's like spying to me.I don't know the legal aspects of it but surely look this crap up and good luck with this company...

What is a good video/digital camera to record sound?
Q. I need a good camera because i like going to concerts and filming the bands and i like making drum covers for youtube, but i need a good camera that can record sound clearly without the sound being nothing but static... and it needs to be able to plug into a computer.

A. Camcorder mics are not that good, as they are unidirectional pick up audio from everywhere. If you can you need a directional mic picks up there you point it. the better the quality the more expensive they are.

legal bit concerts and the music played at them is copyrighted you may get into trouble doing this, unless you get permission fom the copyright holder

it depends on how much you are willing to spend on a camera and mic. they can cost as much or more than a camera.

a little more information on budget and maybe the type of camera you are looking at.

Good luck

RR

what color powerpoint presentation would be good if I have to use a projector and video camera?

Q. I have to make a powerpoint presentation, then project it on to a white board and stand there and give a lecture based on the power point slides. The lecture will be recorded with a video camera. The lighting is strong in the room and good for the video camera. But, what color powerpoint presentation would show well in strong light and with a video camera? Thanks

A. I have recently write this article about background color for presentation so I think I could contribute to your question pretty well. If you have the light on all the time and recording it, you probably want to avoid using darker color as background with white color font.

For usability purpose, having a white background and black color font like the traditional BCG presentations would work. Otherwise, choose a light background color and match it with black color font will work well too.

I hope I have answered your question well.

What is the most efficient way to record class lectures? Ipod?
Q. I don't have an ipod, but I was thinking about buying one for the purpose of recording lectures in some challenging classes this semester. Is the cheapest ipod nano $149? That's what the apple website says. How much would the appliance to record voices cost??

Is there another way I could record lectures other than with a tape recorder that would be less expensive than an ipod?

A. if you're not allowed to have cellphones or anything,
my school is like that. if you have a camera with sound,
just put it in your purse while its on video.

What is the best camera/camcorder for school?
Q. I am looking for a camera/camcorder that would be good for recording class lectures. It needs to have a good microphone. If it's a camcorder then I also want it to be able to take pictures with a flash.
As for price, preferably something under $200.

A. It depends on how much you want to spend,I would say one of those Canon IXUS series with HD or FHD video recording, best quality photos and very high res video recording

How Well do Camera phones work in a remotely dark room for videos?

Q. These idiots at my school recorded a really stupid drunken act of me on their camera phone ..however the room was very dark , the video was taken back in september ...there is no flash on camera phones for videos , right ? anyways ..do you think they'd already put it on facebook by now if they were going to?

A. depends on the phone, if it is like the iphone or something like that then yea but like a really crappy phone that cost like 10 dollars then i dont think so.

What is the best camera phone available today?
Q. Im looking for a camera phone that takes good pictures and records video aswell. A couple of phones did catch my attention. The Samsung SGH-G800 and the LG KU990 Viewty which both have 5mp cameras. Somebody also said that the Sony Ericcson K790 is supposed to be a real good camera phone to.

A. The Sony Ericcson K790a is really good! Cnet.com rates it as one of the best camera phones around! It has a 5.2 megapixels, and it looks nice too. The Sony Ericcson K850i is cool too. It has 5.O megapixels.

CNET also says the Nokia N95, Motorola Razr V2, Samsung SGH- G800 (like you said), and The SamsungSCH- U900, or the FlipShot, is really good too. The screen flips all the way around, and it's a flip phone, which makes it so unique. I only worry if the entire top part of the flip phone may be weak as its only on one "joint," so to speak.

I use CNET.com all the time to check out phones before I buy them. They have like videos for you to watch, and they rate all the phones too. The editors are really cool, too.

Hope I helped!

How to watch vides on a Samsung Array phone?
Q. I realize that the Samsung Array does not support watching streaming videos. But it seems to me that since it has a built in camera that can record videos, that if I can get a video file converted into the right format that I should I should be able to watch it on my phone.

Video recorded on the Samsung Array is saved with the extention .3G2 and the max length seems to be 1 hour.

I want to be able to take .flv and .mp4 videos, approx 45 minutes long, and convert them into a format that will play off of the microSD card on my Samsung Array. I can use a desktop pc to do the converting.

Please help!

A. I have the Samsung Array myself that I use with Ting Wireless, so I know what you mean.

With how low resolution the screen is, and how short of a battery life the phone has (compared to most smartphones), I do not feel the amount of effort needed to convert and downgrading the resolution on the phone is worth it. I would recommend getting a better phone, a portable DVD player or an iPod that supports video, as that would be easier and more enjoyable than the small low-res screen that is on the Array.

How do I record myself on video playing drums?

Q. I want to play drums and set up a video camera to record me, but at the same time actually sound somewhat decent.
Also to record myself doing drum covers to songs.
How do I do this without mic's?

A. I do that all the time! Keep the videos and over time, if you ever doubt that you are getting better, you'll see that practice really does work. You can use any small digital camera to record yourself. I put mine on a desk 2 meters in front of my bass drum and it recorded fine. It's better if you have a window near by for light. If you want to do covers a lot of people use an mp3 or CD player with headphones and play along to it then when they put the video on their computer they add the music on to the video.

What would be the best HD video camera for filming action?
Q. I need to film myself playing drums. Ideally the camera doesn't have to have any features, like zoom or any editing stuff, except recording because I'm just going to set it up on a tripod in a fixed spot. I just need a video camera that can record fast action well and has a sharp picture.

A. Consumer level HD camcorders have 3 problems. 1) Blurry, fuzzy, out of focus areas closely around people in videos taken by consumer level HD camcorders. 2) Any movement, even a wave or lifting an arm, while in front of a recording consumer level HD camcorder, results in screen ghosts and artifacts being left on the video track, following the movement. Makes for bad video, sports videos are unwatchable. 3) Mandatory maximum record times - 1 hour, 30 minutes, 8 minutes, 3 minutes - all times advertised as maximum record time for some consumer level HD camcorders. No event i have aver been to is that short. Either take multiple camcorders or pack up with out getting the end of the event on video.

With a MiniDV tape camcorder, record 60 or 90 minutes ( camcorder settings), 90 second or less to change a tape and record for 60 or 90 more and repeat till you run out of tapes.

You can get a Canon ZR960 for $250. It is a MiniDV tape camcorder, has a Mic jack. You need a firewire (IEEE1394) card ($25 to 30) for the computer and a firewire cable (less than 10) to be able to transfer video to your computer.

Just to add to Number 2 from up above, the movements of you playing your drums would not look good on a consumer level HD camcorder at all.

Need a good camera for recording drums live?
Q. Looking for a decent priced camera for recording drums live. Something that doesn't cost to much but gets the job done. Need it to record music primarily so it needs a good mic. thanks

A. Your requirement should read:

"Need it to record LOUD music primarily"

Which ever video capture device you get needs to have manual audio gain control.

At the low end, in consumer cams, this is usually a mic attenuator selection in the camcorder's menu. Normal for regular levels, On for loud audio. With these, lenses are small along with small imaging chips resulting in poor low light behavior. Spend a little on the camcorder, spend more on lighting.

Move up the food chain and the control gets more granular. 10-12 steps, again controlled in the menu. Get to prosumers and pro grade and the manual audio control is on the outside of the camcorder. Lenses and imaging chips get larger so low light behavior improves as the price of the camcorder goes up. Spend more on the camcorder, spend a little on lighting.

Step 1: Set a budget. $300, $1,300, $2,300, $3,000 or more? Be sure to include tripod, cables, mics lighting and all that.
Step 2: See what fits. Download the manual from the camcorder manufacturer. Be sure it does hat you need (manual audio gain control).
Step 3: Set your expectations accordingly. Pro grade gear (like your good drums) are not inexpensive.
Step 4: Any camera or camcorder can record decent video when used within its design parameters. Stray from these and expect problems. Be sure your computer can deal with the video files for playback and editing. Check your video editor, too.

If you choose to get a drum mic kit, you will need a mixer to attach them all to the camcorder. Be sure the camcorder has audio input jacks (consumer grade uses 1/8" stereo that can take XLR connections with an XLR adapter (juicedLink - BeachTek); pro grade gear uses XLR connections built-in.

What program would I use to make a video of activity on my computer?

Q. For example, if I want to make a video showing how to format a Word document. How can I make a movie of the steps I am taking? I've seen some people use a video camera aimed at their monitor but I'm hoping to have a higher quality than that. And could I make a video of a Power Point presentation?

(I had such good luck with my last question, I thought I'd try another.)
Screen shots with a description would work for my example, Tick Tock, but what I really wanted to do was record a power point presentation for upload to you tube. When I get it posted I know you will get a BIG kick out of it.

A. http://www.hyperionics.com/hc/downloads.asp

it works

what good screen recorder or camera that also records sound can i use to record videos?
Q. what good screen recorder or camera that also records sound can i use to record videos, Mugen, take pics etc

ps. the main thing is that it records vids and sound

A. Get Wondershare DemoCreator, Democreator create software tutorial and presentation by recording screen, but more than a screen recorder, you can record all the actions taking on the application and then add some tips or instructions to it, even more, you can easily add the narration from microphone or import audio file directly. At last, you can publish it to Flash, auto-run CD, EXE, e-mail, ftp, LMS. As you know, flash file has smaller size and is safer for transmission, i think it will useful for you!
Good luck!
Cheers!

You can try it for free to see if it works for what you need it for.

how do you record good quality sound from hd video camera?
Q. it is a live event and I have full access to video rights ,the sound and the p.a system.

A. In this case, get a Digital Audio Recorder and the cable needed to hook this to the PA system. Record the audio separately, this venue probably has better audio capture hardware, make use of it. Then mix audio in post on your NLE timeline. Then be a roving camera operator, does not matter what sounds you capture, if you have a good enough NLE, lock down this audio from camcorder as a separate file and use it as room noise. Be better and beg, borrow some body to help you, use two or three camcorders and make a good presentation in the end, no ne needs to worry what sound they are capturing, only the video image.

When using a device to capture audio that is not your camcorder, use this tip to be able to SYNC your audio and video together once both are put on a timeline for video editing purposes. Standing close to Microphone, in front of your camcorder, with both recording devices recording the video and audio, CLAP, LOUDLY. Now so long as the recorders stay recording, you have a sync point so when you get back to the computer, it is much easier to sync the audio and video together.

Most of all, have fun.

Aren't you disappointed about the so called 1080p hd video camera in the new ipad 3?

A. So they can make improvements for the next one and con people into spending even more money on their products.

Why is the quality of the video worse on youtube than on my camera?
Q. I have a HD Hero camera, and record in 1080p. The video is crystal clear on my computer but blurry on youtube. I use Video Pad as my editor and always chose the highest quality to make my movie.

A. The videos that you monitor on your computer desktop will always have a higher quality than those which are uploaded to YouTube. Due to the obligatory processes that commence during and (some time) after a YouTube upload, the quality will always be somewhat abated. The videos you see on YouTube may be of a higher resolution than that of yours. The reasons can be a bit lengthy. One of which is the file type. Look over YouTube's video recommendations and see if your video matches it. Even though 1080p is available on YouTube, there will (in no time soon) be a true 1080p video on YouTube. You should keep that in mind.

How can I use my video camera for a baby monitor?
Q. I have an older digital video camera that I really don't use very much. I am trying to find a way to hook it up in the baby's-to-be room and connect it to our TV in our bedroom.

Are there certain cords that I need? Is this possible? I'm hoping to fix it so that it is on, but not recording.

A. You can get a wireless transmitter, or buy some extra long Video Cable.. But you may have a problem with the camera's auto off feature. if its not recording it will go off after a certain amount of time.

How to get good quality when recording games with a Camera?

Q. Well its pretty good quality when i record but it gets weird. Is there a strategy when recording Video Games???

A. The camcorder needs to have the AV-in feature. If it does not have AV-in, there is no cable that can make it have AV-in. Basically, you would need three "Y" cables... one end plugs into the game console (one for video, one for right audio, one for left audio). One end plugs into the TV. One end plugs into the camcorder with AV-in.

Rather than a camcorder, you can use a TV capture card or "analog/digital bridge" (like those from Pinnacle - Dazzle - or Canopus) and connect directly to your computer.

Sony Handy cam HDR-CX150, is there a way to record my video game play?
Q. After watching multiple youtube videos on how to record video games from a camera, I've found one common issue with my camera. I need to fin the av output or input settings. It is possible that the camera itself has no such setting. If so, tell me so I can just give up already.

A. You cannot use your camcorder as a recorder from the AV jacks. You can only record from the lens. To do what most gamers do, get a DVR, hook your game machine that and that to the TV. Record game play, then transfer file from DVR to computer. Use your camcorder, mounted on a tripod to cover your game playing grunts and groans, the do a PIP effect, putting you in the corner of the video. Windows Movie Maker cannot do PIP

Best type of video camera for filming my children?
Q. I'm wanting an easy to use video camera that has great focus and zoom capabilities. Price isn't a prob as long as the playback is beautifully clear :) thanks

A. Consumer level HD camcorders have 4 problems. 3) These Consumer level HD camcorders all have a habit of the transferred to computer files are something you need to convert, thus losing your HD quality, to work with your editing software. 4) Mandatory maximum record times - 1 hour, 30 minutes, 8 minutes, 3 minutes – four different times advertised as maximum record time for some consumer level HD camcorders. No event I have ever been to is that short. Either take multiple camcorders or pack up with out getting the end of the event on video. Not to mention, but the computer you upload your HD files to jas to have at least a 1 GB video card and a separate Audio card that can support Direct X 9 technology, you normal every day computer has massive troubles with HD video. Consumer level HD camcorders interpolate the video. This means they take one frame, make up the next 4 or 5 frames, take a frame and repeat this, over and over, for the remainder of the video, every video it takes is like this. With a MiniDV tape camcorder, record 60 or 90 minutes ( camcorder settings), 90 seconds or less to change a tape and record for 60 or 90 more and repeat till you run out of tapes.

You can get a Canon ZR960 for $250. It is a MiniDV tape camcorder, has a MIC jack. You will need a Firewire (IEEE1394) card ($25 to 30) for the computer and a Firewire cable (less than 10) to be able to transfer video to your computer. To say this is not HD, think about this. It would cost in excess of $3500 to get a HD camcorder that could equal the video Quality of a $250 Canon MiniDV tape camcorder.

Laws regarding pointing a camera outside of my home?

Q. Last week my neighbor's car was vandalized, leading to me buying a security camera to film the spot where I park my own vehicle. I basically bought the biggest, most gaudy camera I could because I wanted people to see it and know to leave the area in front of it alone. Almost immediately a neighbor came to me to complain. She first accused me of filming her property (I showed her it actually only records the street its self), and then she said I could not film that area because it's not my property. She said if I don't remove the camera she'll bring legal charges against me.

I live in Upstate New York (not the city). I plan to consult the police to find out for sure, but in the mean time does anyone here know if she's right?

A. Filming your neighbor's house might be illegal. Filming the public street and your front yard should not be.

Legal or not, you aren't doing well on the being neighborly thing.

Replace the camera with a big sign that says 24 your video surveillance. Walk over and tell your neighbor that you understand her concerns and that you have removed the camera. The sign is just for deterrence and you have removed the camera.

If you feel strongly about having a camera, wait a few weeks and then secretly install a concealed camera that records only your driveway up to the edge of the road.

The camera is really only for deterrence anyway. If someone breaks into your car, you will still have a missing car, damage to your car and/or missing items from the car and a video of a dark, faceless smudge to show the police.

A better attack is to form a neighborhood watch program in conjunction with your local police department, have regular meetings of your neighbors so you all know each other and you all know who belongs where and when on your street. Distribute phone numbers so neighbors can report suspicious people on your street. Put a light in your driveway so it illuminates the car and front of the house without causing light problems with your neighbors and don't leave valuable items in your car.

How where cartoons like Scooby Doo made?
Q. Cartoons I see on TV today are all cleanly animated, where as the cartoons I used to watch back when I was young like Scooby Doo & Tales From The Crypt Keeper all looked like they had been hand drawn then animated.

How did the artists go about animating them? Can you still do it today? I hate the new style of cartoons; the old "hand drawn" ones looked so much cooler!

A. Okay, first point. Scooby Doo was created in a series of meetings where producers worked with writers (who were probably producers and designers (one of whom who I'll get to was probably as senior as most of the others) to come up with concepts like the Mystery Mobile its inhabitants and so on. The designer who worked on Scooby-Doo more than any other was Iwao Takamoto who was absolutely trained in the US though he got his first drawing lessons while interned in one of our Concentration Camps for Japanese during World War II. Takamoto was responsible for concept sketches, designs of the characters and model sheets for ALL of them. He had other artists working with him but he was primarily responsible as, at the time was Alex Toth on other series.

Then scripts were commissioned and as they took shape storyboards, backgrounds and designs and model sheets for other characters. WHILE that was going on, finished episodes were recorded and someone was assigned to time each episode, writing down just how long each sound effect or each syllable of each word took, as a guide for synching the animation. Finally the timing sheets and model sheets and so forth would be given to the key animators, who would draw the key positions of everything which changed in the episode (like characters, buttons, clubs -- guns weren't permitted on TV) and turn them over to junior animators called in-betweeners who exactly drew in the actions in between the key images they were given. These were usually drawn on light boxes in pencil using a thin paper with holes punched in them to allow them to hang from a register bar which kept all the drawing consistent (the first bevis and butthead was drawn on notebook paper, which makes sense as it already has holes for registration). The drawings were, for Scooby-Doo, in limited animation, which meant each would be on the screen for 1/12 of a second rather than the 1/24 of a second of a traditional animation. They were then, by that time, xeroxed onto clear acetate sheets known as cells, which were hand painted and sent to what is called a multiplane camera to be photographed in front of the backgrounds. Finally the film was edited to fit the soundtrack and the whole thing was transferred to video. The first series was done mainly in California but for monetary reasons, I believe they shipped the animation overseas after the episodes were recorded.

What's the cheapest way to record digital video and audio of our speakers at our Toastmasters meetings?
Q. With or without a laptop.
Thanks,
Vince

A. If you want separate recording (audio- video) you might have trouble when synchronizing them.. Actually this is the best way. You can load video (videos) and audio on Adobe Premier and have little work...

If you use some camera it will record audio and video, you don't have to sync.. But the camera microphone can't be better then normal mics.. If this is not the problem, just find no matter how cheap camcorders which has built in mic, that will be good..

If your place is big and you need record all audio in the room, so normal camcorders wouldn't capture all the audio..

Good luck

HELP! Can my mom make a video tape of my graduation using my Samsung WB210 digital camera tomorrow?...?

Q. My mom will be recording my graduation, but will film bits and pieces- not the whole entire thing, so there will be different clips. However, my mom wants to make a tape in the end with all the clips together ... like a "movie." Will that be possible because it's only a digital camera, not a cam corder. Also, do you know how long the camera can film if there's already about 300 photos on it (it can take about 804 more photos.)

HERE IS CAMERA:
http://www.samsung.com/ae/consumer/cameras-camcorders/cameras/compact/EC-WB210ZDPBME/index.idx?pagetype=prd_detail&subsubtype=wb-series

It was about $220 i believe

A. Take any photos on the camera and move them to a hard drive or CD, to give you maximum storage space,

Get another storage media card, so if she does run out of room, she has backup.

Once shot, put them on your computer and put them back together with an NLE editing program. If you don't have that, Windows Movie Maker on a Windows machine and Imovie on a MAC are installed in the OS when installed.

Other than that, I have never had a need to use one, but here is a review of several online video editing sites, go see if one of those would help

Q. Heyy guyz i need your help. Okay so i need to get a digital camera, video camera, either a laptop or computer system. And I am thinking of getting a recording system. The laptop and/or computer needs to be able to edit pictures, movies, vocal and instrumental recordings and things and the everyday things. and the digital and video camera should be compact and small and take good quality pictures. Can anyone tell me the names of not very expensive but good quality electronics. I am willing to spend money. okay thanks

A. With regards to a computer for photo and video editing Apple is great for that. I have used both Windows and osx and I do prefer windows for other reasons but for video and pictures the apple definitely is better. And I would suggest canon for your cameras. A GL1 or Gl2 would be great for video and the canon EOS 1D is a great SLR camera. The GL2 and the 1D I believe both do both take video and stills. You can get cheap used ones online from E bay or this great sight I know of , camcorders: http://www.onequality.com/professional-camcorders-c-30.html and the cameras: http://www.onequality.com/professional-cameras-c-22.html . Check it out, they can get your camera needs, and A windows computer that is good would be a Dell Studio 15 check them out here: http://www.dell.com/content/topics/segtopic.aspx/deals/popular_laptops OR with apple you could get a Mac book check that out here http://www.apple.com/macbook/

Whats the best video camera for recording music covers?
Q. I want to start making covers on youtube. I don't really know a lot about video cameras. I was thinking about getting a flip HD. are they any good? I have about $200 to $300 range. Thanks in advance

A. I am not familiar with that camera, I know a lot of people use them though so I guess they are good. However, I think it's A LOT more important to have a decent microphone and music/video editing software. Most good singers on YouTube record with some sort of HD camcord, but the vocals/instrumental are recorded with a good microphone. You can get a decent microphone to start with at $100 or less, or you can spend a lot more if you'd like...but my suggestion is to invest in a good microphone that will work for your needs (not sure if you're recording voice or instruments...different microphones work for different setups/instruments) - also you should invest in software/hardware so that whatever you record will be of high quality (if you just plug a decent mic into a computer and record, it's going to sound bad...but if you record into, say, a minidisc player, the quality will be much better - though there are other things you can use besides a minidisc player). The video really should be the last thing to worry about...it's better to have high quality audio and just record yourself with a HD digital camera rather then just using a HD camcord that could have bad sound.
I hope you get what I'm saying. Try to look into other options...or at least a seperate microphone and video recorder.
Good luck.

How do i put sound into the videos i make with my kodak easyshare digital camera?
Q. Ok well i recorded a video with my Kodak Easyshare digital camera and as some of you that have these may know, when you replay the video, there is no sound and i think i read somewhere in the manual that you have to manually put the sound into the video which i think is comepletely inconvenient so i was wondering if any of you knew how to get the sound onto the video that you record with this particular camera. Thanks.

A. The quickest way to synchronize the Video from a separate audio recorder is, to do a Finger Countdown of 3 sec while symultaniously counting vocally. Do this before every shot.

Following which, you load them to a decent video editing software, where, you can then synchronize audio and video via your audible vocal countdown and visual finger countdown.

For example:
say: "three - two - one - zero"
while your fingers countdown from: 3 -2 -1 - 0

How do I upload a video from my video camera?

Q. I have a Canon DC330 and I just got back from recording my band and I've already downloaded the two cds that it came with. Now I've tried plugging the video camera into the computer and I felt lost. Then I tried just sticking the cd into the computer and I was still clueless. Somebody help me out please!

A. Try the free software from stashspace. It lets you record video directly from your camcorder onto your computer. Then you can stash your video for secure online storage or share your video. Check them out at http://www.stashspace.com

What video camera from Best buy under 300$ that will record good quality of a garage band and guitar playing?
Q. What video camera from Best buy under 300$ that will record good quality of a garage band and guitar playing?
Or if there is a better one at wal-mart/circuit city/ whatever that has good sound quality for recording loud guitar distortion noises/garage band practices that is under or near 300$, please post it here

thanks!

A. Your problem will be the sound, not the video. Any camcorder at the lower end of the market is easily overwhelmed by volume levels of the sort you encounter at a gig or rehearsal. Find one that has a seperate audio input (preferably stereo) and run a line out of the desk. Failing that use an external mike and attenuate the signal before it hits the camera.

What is a good video camera for recording loud music without distorting the noise?
Q. I'm in a rock band, and we would like to record us playing, so we can put it on youtube. We are looking for a VIDEO camera that can shoot good videos, but we want better sound quality. Budget is $200 or less. This, or a camera that has a "USB IN" thing so that i can plug a rockband mic into it

A. To get the very best sound quality for a music video, you should ALWAYS record the video and the music separately. Then merge and synchronize the music using a good audio/video editor and sequencer like Pro Tools.

But, if you insist on recording them together, you need to have a digital video camcorder that has an external microphone input so that you can plug in your own studio quality microphone. Better still is to have more than one microphone running through a mic preamp that feeds into the camcorder. The music should also be balanced correctly by running the entire band through a mixer and then recording the audio off of the mixer in stereo to the camcorder.

If your music is too loud, it's going to sound bad anyway. You can turn down the music and it not only sounds better, the people listening to won't have to shout at each other to comment on it and the musicians won't go deaf at an early age from damaging their ears with a constant barrage of excessive decibels. http://www.abelard.org/hear/hear.php#loud-music

Where can I buy cheap disposable video cameras?

Q. Looking to have a family reunion. My family is spread all over the US. So I know not all of them are going to be able to make it. What I wanted to do is send the family members that can't make it disposable video cameras in the mail so they could all record a video message and I can make a video montage and play it at the reunion. Not looking to spend any more than $20 for each camera. Need about 10 cameras.

A. You won't be able to find camcorders at that price BUT you may be able still do your project if those family members have their own devices capable of recording video. Most, if not all cell phones are capable of recording video. And many point-in-shoot digital cameras can record video as well. Also some computers have web cams and using capture software those cams can record video. Lastly, is asking the absentees if they can share a camcorder with other family members and/or borrow a cam from a neighbor or even from their local church or school. I think if you get the idea going with those who can't make it, they most likely would do what they can to participate in your project however they can.

How do i record audio from a microphone?
Q. Hello it would be great if any of you can help me with this "Problem" our church has, we are trying to record the audio from the microphone our Pastor(speaker) Is using. He is using the http://i476.photobucket.com/albums/rr130/Mexican_Mafia_2008/photo1.jpg,
SE50 - Headworn Condenser Microphone

We want to record what comes out of the microphone.

We have a Video Camera, but the microphone is to sensitive to the noise around it! since its a church its very loud, we film from the back of the church and you can hear everyone who comes in, so we want the audio recorded from the microphone so we can just hear our pastors voice. The Video Camera we have is the Canon XF100, i tried changing the setting so there would not be so much noise but it is still doing it.

We do have an audio mixer board, and 3 receivers but I don't if we can use does to do it?

A. How about trying a digital recorder?

What is the best video camera to use with Pinnacle Studio Ultimate?
Q. We want to start recording short videos for church, but I don't know what kind of camera to purchase. I need a low cost but decent camera.

A. Generally you should stick with a Mini DV-C tape camcorder, but you'll need a capture card or FireWire connection on your computer.

Prices start in the $200 range right now.

These transfer in AVI format which is the easiest to work with.

How can I make a really good tutorial video?

Q. I would like to make a really good tutorial video so I can upload it to youtube. Any comments will be appreciated...Thanks

A. Hi.

I make tutorial videos on YouTube, they are recorded with screen recordings and are edited together. There are two types of video tutorials:

1. Recorded with Video Camera
2. Recorded with Screen Recorder

I personally make my tutorials with screen recorders, because my tutorials are software based. Screen recorders are used to show people whats on the computer screen through your point of view, without resorting to pointing the camera at the screen. Using a screen recorder is suitable for tutorial makers interested in teaching their viewers how to use computer programs.

If this is you, you will need a good mic, and a screen recorder. It is optional but I also recommend a good video editing program like SOny Vegas.

Here is my set up:

Microsoft Lifechat LX-2000 Headset; $40
Camtasia Studio 5; $300
Sony Vegas Pro 8; $600

Now I've been doing this for a long time, and as a result I create very high quality tutorials that are regularly viewed by thousands. You can view them here:
http://www.youtube.com/techtopia

Now, if you want to make a tutorial based on live action things (such as "How to plant a tree", or "How to do a layup in basketball") You will need a video camera.

These range from about $90 - $1,000.
The Canon HV30 is an excellent video camera, it records in HD, it has remarkable features, and is easy to set up. It costs about $900
http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=ModelInfoAct&fcategoryid=177&modelid=16206

Again, you will also need a video editing program. Sony Vegas Pro 9 is the new release candidate and its about $650.
http://www.sonycreativesoftware.com/vegaspro

I would also recommend getting a basic lighting kit. What I do is I go to Home Depot and pick up three work clamp lights, these are like $7 each and clamp to almost anything - this allows you to get the three lighting sets: The key light, the fill light, and the optional back light.

You may also want to consider getting a good green screen and a boom mic. This will improve your video quality.

Think long and hard about your tutorials. Ask yourself things like "Who will be watching my tutorials?" and "What will they already know, and be expected to learn?"

Then write a small script. Don't read directly from it, just jot down some ideas and think about what to say before you record it - remember that you can edit these out later.

If your looking to start a hobby out of this, try using an Internet pseudonym. Mine is Techtopia.

Tutorial making is fun and can be a great profession. Even at 13 years old, which is my age, I can earn lots of money doing it. I know one tutorial maker, who gets paid on average about $600 monthly to make video tutorials. Just put some time and effort into it, and it should turn out to be an interesting experience. If you need any help contact me on YouTube - http://www.youtube.com/techtopia

how do i burn a dvd while recording live?
Q. I am a college basketball coach. It would be extremely efficient if, after filming the game, we had a finished copy of the game already burnt onto a dvd.

I am trying to skip the step of have two mini-dvds and having to burn them onto a larger disc after the game.

A. This is actually pretty easy.

You will need two things - a dvd recorder and a video camera with an audio/video output.

It will work better if you have the camera on a tripod. Connect the AV output on the camera to the AV input on the recorder using the AV cable that comes with the camera.

Both items should be available at any Walmart or online. Your current camera may work too as long as it has an AV output.

If you need more help, feel free to e-mail me.

How much should I charge to film and edit basketball games?
Q. There youth basketball games, hockey games, all sports. How much should I charge the parents. For some people I will be doing highlights, for some people I will just record the seasons for them, and clean them up in the editing rooms. How much per game or season, is $20 a game too much?

A. is it just one parent on the team asking for the videos? if more than one want the same thing, then you can charge less for copies, since it's very cheap to make a copy once you are done - $20 for the one - if 3 parents want copies, then make it $15 each - you get $45 total for the game. video camera are so cheap anymore - almost everyone who has kids in sports probably already has one

that's a lot of time spent editing - how much per hour will that come to for your $20?

I would charge probably $10 per game per copy just for an unedited video of each game - let the people do their own editing - the kids can probably figure that out on their own

How could my band record music with good quality?
Q. We only have an HD video camera and we use the sound recording option. we want to get noticed but we don't have enough money yet to go to a studio in town.

A. download audacity, its free. you can record each track individually (guitar, vocals, etc) with the camera then mix it together in audacity when you upload it to a computer
