What should I use to record Vocals and Piano at home?

Q. I have a Youtube channel. I've been using my webcam to upload my music but the quality is TERRIBLE. My piano sounds like death. What are so inexpensive things I could use to record myself, and maybe sound a bit better? I have a nice video camera. But what about a microphone, or things like that..

A. If you're looking for something cheap, a USB mic is the way to go. Good ones: Blue Snowball, Blue yeti, AT2020.
A better but more expensive way:
Audio interface (Mackie Blackjack or Focusrite Scarlett 2i2) + Blue encore 100

Message to Kalvin: Don't "thumb down" other answers just because you think your answer is the best. Of course the Snowball (and any other USB mic) won't get pro results, but it is cheap and is enough for someone who just want something better than a webcam mic.
In a perfect world everyone should be using a U87 connected to a UA preamp, but that's not how it works in the real world.

What do I need and how much do I need to be able to record music in my house?
Q. I would like to start recording music w/ a laptop (singing + guitar + occasional piano). I've always heard of the macs and how great they are for musicians....but I'd like to hear some more opinions. Would buying mics/ video camera/ etc be better and more affordable? suggestions please.

A. There are so many answers to this question, but the first question to you would be how professional do you want your recordings to be and how big is your budget? A video camera is going to give you a very low end recording. There are a zillion software recording programs to use with computer recording. Probably the most popular right now is Pro Tools, but there are many others, each with it's own learning curve. There are also hard disk recorders that you can use independent of your computer and then transfer it to your computer is you like for editing. Many of these come with a built in cd drive in which you can master and burn a cd directly from the unit. Again, much like cars, there are the bare bones models and then there are the ones with all the bells and whistles. One thing for sure is that you need a really good mic and you need a fairly soundproof place to record vocals. A good mic can make or break a good recording. I have always been a pc person, though I have friends that swear by mac. I think it depends on what you are comfortable with because you can get great software for either. Do a little research before you invest a lot of money. You might try starting out on some used gear. Try ebay or your local music store. Good luck.

Do you know any good recording equipment for piano performances?
Q. I'm a pianist and I need to record a video of my playing to apply for a scholarship. My church has a beautiful, massive Steinway Grand piano, the biggest one available. I would love to use it, but my family only owns home video cameras. Where could I find the proper equipment to make a good recording? Is it possible to hook a mic up to the inside of the piano? If so, how? Do you have any other ideas?

A. The best thing you can possibly do is to find a good audio person to record your performance. It will cost you a lot less than buying all the equipment you need. Once you have a recording you can make a video and you will use the audio track from that recording session. Try Craigslist to find an audio person that can record for you. They will come with mics and recorders. You can easily spend over $1,000 on some recording equipment and then you still don't know how to use it.

How to connect a Camera to record Video Game footage?

Q. How can I connect a Casio Exilim 10.1 Mega Pixel Camera to record video game footage like the Angry Video Game Nerd and the Irate Gamer? It came with a cable to connect to the RCA inputs on the TV. Real answers only please. I will select the best answer to who helps the most.

A. It won't work. The cables are only for displaying on the Television, not the other way around. If you're wanting to do this, you may want to invest in some equipment.

At first I used Pinnacle Studio Ultimate Collection which came with an adapter that allowed me to record my game play videos at a reasonable definition. I got this on sale for about $90, but I believe the standard price is about $130.

I was then referred to the Hauppauge HD Personal Video Recorder, which records my videos in high quality for the current generation consoles as well as inputs for AV cables. If you're interested in seeing the quality, I have videos up on YouTube. Feel free to send me a message at any time. :-)

Digital camera with video recording optical zoom?

Q. Could someone tell me whether there is a digital camera that takes great pictures and has a video recording feature with optical zoom? I am aware that the video recording on a digital camera is not as good as a camcorder. I just want a 2 in 1 so that I can take pictures and short video clips. I am torn between Canon SD780is, Canon SD880is, and I think some Panasonic DMC's have the feature. Any additional ideas would be helpful.

A. I have the Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ5 and you can zoom while recording and it takes great pictures. It records HD videos.
I would recommend it.

How to adjust the lighting on a digital camera video recording?
Q. So I recorded a video on my digital camera, unfortunately the lighting was not the greatest. Is there anyway to enhance the video to make it brighter?

A. There is hope.

First off, the great thing about digital is that it's easier to get a good image from a dark one than it is from one that's overblown. The reason being is this: the sensors on a digital camera only soak up so much light before they turn to white. If a pixel is recorded as white (blown out, zebra striped, etc.), there is absolutely no way of bringing it back down to a color.

When shooting film, the exact is opposite. A bit off topic but good to know.

So, unless what you shot is completely black, and even if it is, there's sure to be some data in those pixels, and data in pixels is a good thing! Having data in a pixel means it recorded the image. However, finding that image requires the proper software.

A basic editing program with decent image control is Final Cut Pro. I would assume Windows Movie Maker and most video editing programs would have the most elementary of controls as well. What you want to look for is:

1.) Levels - If you have the option of working with levels, you can bring the blacks / shadows up to a visible range, while leaving the midtones and highlights relatively untouched.

2.) Brightness / Exposure - If you have the option of working with brightness or exposure, you can boost the blacks / shadows up to a visible level, but keep in mind anything that looks good now will become overblown or white.

3.) Saturation - If you have the option of adjusting saturation, this may be a good step after adjusting the light levels of your image. Usually when you boost the 'brightness' of an image, it also becomes more washed out, which can be countered by boosting the saturation until you get a natural look.

4.) Noise Reduction - This adjustment would be the icing on the cake. When you boost those shadows, you'll quickly notice that they're very grainy. Noise reduction helps to lower than grainy look, but also tends to slightly blur an image. Worth a try at the very least.

In the future, there are a few things you can do to avoid a repeat. Look for these settings on your camera:

-F Stop - rare for low end cameras, but if you have control of the F stop, you can adjust the brightness and depth of field (area of picture that's blurred or clear) by increasing or decreasing the numbers. The smaller the number, the brighter the picture. Also, the smaller the number, the less depth of field you have. This is also known as aperture.

-ISO / film speed - Film speed or ISO is how quickly the sensor records the image. This affects the amount of light necessary to light a scene. A lower ISO (200) is slower to absorb light, but will give you less grain or noise in your video. A higher ISO (1600) will be easier to light with little light, but will also be much more grainy (noise).

Hope that helps!

I'm looking for a 12 mp minimum, HD video recording digital camera?
Q. I'm looking for a digital camera with HD video recording capability.
I want it to have a descent optical zoom, a minimum of 12 mega pixels and good recording capabilities at night time (and photo).
What kind of camera/make should I look for? Any suggestions?

A. Megapixels means nothing these days.. do you print out on A2? No? Good then you don't need more then 8 Megapixels

Right that said a good lens does matters. Good glass is so nice to have! And of course looking for image quality always important sometimes it is better to invest in a more limited model with better image quality because.. well you want the best right?

Night time recording? What is your budget? The point is that the laws of nature don't change to make a picture or a video you need LIGHT! Raising ISO' s will only get you so far..

I guess a DSLR could, it has a nice big sensor so low noise and coupled with the right lens [in your case a wide aperture prime] it would give relative noise free images and video at night. Do buy one with an external sound jack though because the in build microphones are usually pretty good at catching wind noise.

So most basic DSLR with HD video + Prime Lens + Tripod [really you are going to need it] and the basic set of memory cards and batteries. Oh and of course an external Microphone.. mmm $1100?

You know a HD video camera is cheaper.. but won't make as nice still shots ;)

How can I record video directly on mac, using an external camera?

Q. I want to use a photo camera with video recording capability, to record a video, but I want to control the recording, and save it directly on my mac. This way I don't have to be behind the camera to start and stop the recording, and I don't have to transfer the video files afterwards.

Which cameras would work for that?

A. any camera now days better if have a memory card though not many that have not then simply put into the mc slot or use an extender and edit :) if honest a little unsure on your exact question but also there are many softwares available and though i use windows there are loads of recording softwares to record using webcam too

I need a good quality, cheap digital video camera for recording live band performances & uploading to youtube?
Q. My bf plays for a band and I record with my kodak zd15. The sound sucks really bad. I need a nice camera that video records and has good audio for live band performance. I looked into the Mino HD 8GB Flip, I really liked the upload your own photo thing but it has a lot of downs.
Is the cannon sd1000 a better choice?
I need help.

A. Consumer-grade camcorders don’t record audio very well especially music. Most have omni-directional microphones that tend to pick up all sound around the cam, like sound bouncing off walls, etc. And some are not even stereo mics. If your Kodak ZD15 is okay with the video imagery, then use a separate audio recorder which is the best way to record for music video projects. You did not state your budget but something like a Zoom H1 digital recorder ($99.00) and used with a quality microphone is the cheapest option. But better yet, something like the Zoom H4n or Tascam DR100 (both around $290.00). They can use two mics (and the two on-board mics) and the ability to balance up to 4 channels. The important part is the microphone and for a way to adjust the gain, as music will peak and fall throughout the performance, and each instrument has its own unique sound waves. Using ear-muff style headphones will allow you to listen more accurately what the mic(s) is picking up. You may be able to rent a recorder and try it out to see if it will work for you. Check with your local music instrument stores. If you still are leaning towards another camcorder, just make sure it has an external microphone port and headphone port.

What Digital Cameras Can Allow Zooming During Video Recording?
Q. I go to a lot of concerts and record them on camera. I was wondering which cameras allow zooming during video recording. I'm looking for something not too expensive. $300-400 max price. Thanks.

A. I have a Samsung L200 and it's great. 10 megapixels, zooming while video and its only 200.

If you're doing a lot of video, invest the money for the Canon HG20. $600 from amazon.com, i have one, trust me, its the way to go.

I want to record a church service using multiple cameras. Any ideas how can I can do this and software to use?

Q. I am using a Mac.
Basically, I want to use multiple cameras to record a church service, all connected to my Mac, and control it from here.
It's going to be a very low budget film.
I've heard of Premiere Pro, and have used a little bit of it.
But any other ideas?
How to connect the cameras to each other, if possible how to connect the church sound system?

Thanks.

A. forget the mac

you need PTZ cameras, these can be remotely aimed (Pan-tilt) and framed with the zoom. since you don't need to change all cameras at the same time, only one controller is needed.

next you need a video mixer. any of the Panasonic WJ-MX series will work. The WJ-MX50a is made for 4 cameras. These mixers also have audio so you can mix additional audio sources, such as the church PA. mixer also has a "preview" output so you can see how you are adjusting the camera before you "take" it on the program out.

finally, record live on a DVD-R recorder/player. that way you are ready to make copies even as the echos of the last song are fading away.

What is the Florida law for video recording confessions?
Q. Recording on a video camera. Someone admits to harassment. The harassment was through text messages. About 350 text messages and 20 restricted phone calls were made to the individual in less then 48 hours. The harasser does not know he or she has been recorded. The individual saved a majority of the text messages and printed them out. Is it illegal to record the harasser confession? The harasser admitted to texting the individual phone and calling on a block number. I just need to know what the law is in Florida for this. This is not a confession for Church.

A. Recording some one and not telling them is not usable in court. But you can you use that as evidence against the person by showing it to someone. The easiest thing to do is get your number changed on the cell phone which may be done for free the first time due to a harassment issue. Filling for a temporary restraining order can be done by a police officer coming to your house and that police can see the tape.

What are some good cameras for video recording?
Q. I need to buy a video camera so i can be able to do some podcasts, maybe a decent looking music video and also video tape my church events.

Is there a good recommendation for a camera? Or/and software?

A. It depends on how high up you want to go. I'll stick with the Canon brand, because it's what I know and because they have great color.

For semi-pro level in SD (not HD) start with:
Canon GL1

For just a little more money and a much better picture:
Canon GL2

For vastly better color and low-light handling:
Canon XL1s **highly recommended

If you want to go HD, go for the Canon XH G1.

If these cameras are out of your budget range, look VERY HARD on eBay for a used model. You can get a very good deal. It's how I got my XL1s for less than half of retail. It's still working great for me after 3 years. You can't get good picture and color for less than about $600.

For software, you can try Sony's Vegas Movie Studio 9. It can be had for under $100. It's more advanced than just about anything in its price range.

I personally use and love Final Cut Pro, but it costs near $1000 and requires that you own a Mac.

What's the best budget/business user digital camera for video blogging?

Q. I'm looking to buy a digital camera. I'm a novice at best, but want something with professional looking photos and a good video recording capability (Audio is a must also.) What are your recommendations?
I'm leaning towards the Canon PowerShot Elph 300 HS. Thanks in advance!

A. The Canon 300 HS is a fine choice. If you like it, then stick with it. I'd also suggest going to a nearby camera/electronic store to try out some for yourself though.

Could they make a digital camera take pictures and video as good as professional camera?
Q. or a small video camera record as good as an expensive camcorder?
Would it be possible?
No I mean like the sharpness and pixels or what ever.
and like frame rate.

A. It's an interesting question, and in someways I want to answer yes but in others I want to answer no.

The most expensive cameras and camcorders are designed to be adjusted with lenses to suit the needs of the shot. The quality of the glass determines how the camera digests the light quite drastically and they are expensive and heavy because the glass is expertly crafted using the finest necessary materials. There would be no way to reduce the size, weight and cost of these lenses to fit make a camera aimed at the consumer.

Same goes for the sensors - they would need the same high quality glass to do their performance justice.

Things like high ISO capabilities would not be able to be processed by a smaller camera - just yet anyway.

Of course as said previously the person operating the camera can do a lot if they have a good skill. The quality of digital cameras for the consumer gets better every day, but as does the professional grade equipment so I doubt they'd ever merge the two together. The technology is complex, but if they could do it they would have done it already.

Edit:
AH! I completely misread your question I think! Do you mean will they make a still camera that can take video as well as a professional dedicated film camera? Like the previous guy said, the 5D mkII has HD video so they're getting their. Lots of wedding video companies shoot weddings on 5D mkIIs and produce superb results. The only problem is if they misbehave the guests think they are with the photographer and they get a bad rep ;)

How to record drum sounds/audio from Yamaha DTXplorer?

Q. I want to record videos of myself playing the drums but when i just use a video camera, the sound is not accurate at all. I've seen on YouTube that certain people get the exact sound by using mics (for acoustic kits) but how do I do so for the DTXplorer (an electronic kit). Please do mention all the different methods you know in case I do not have the equipment for one method.

A. Recording an electric drum kit is very easy if you have either a recording interface or a USB mixer.

http://www.google.com/products/catalog?q=m+audio+interface&hl=en&prmd=ivns&biw=1269&bih=570&bav=on.1,or.&wrapid=tlif129811795607210&um=1&ie=UTF-8&cid=13978493274593489214&ei=RbVfTcjiAci1twfTz4HnCw&sa=X&oi=product_catalog_result&ct=result&resnum=1&ved=0CH8Q8wIwAA#

or

http://www.google.com/products/catalog?hl=en&q=allen+and+heath+zed+10fx&bav=on.1,or.&wrapid=tljp1298118007862030&um=1&ie=UTF-8&cid=4100366626644696116&ei=c7VfTdPXBMaltwff0v36Cw&sa=X&oi=product_catalog_result&ct=result&resnum=5&sqi=2&ved=0CEwQ8wIwBA#

With either of these, all you need to do is connect the output of your drum's modulator to one of these. Then you will need some kind of recording software. There are some very basic programs that are free, but very basic.

So what you will do is record the sound while capturing the video. You will then tweek the audio in your recording software and then sync it with the video in the video software of your choise. Many times Windows based computers will come with free movie making software. If you don't have any, you can probably download this for free as well.

Is there a way to set up a digital camera to record video from your computer and record sound from a mic?
Q. I have a digital camera that records video but the sound quality isn't good. Is there a way to plug it in to my laptop and set it up to where it records video onto the computer while recording sound from a mic?

I plan on making drum covers and I need good sound quality in order to do so. If you know a way to do this PLEASE tell me cause i really need to know.

A. There seems to be no way to set up the cam like this...

Good luck!

How do I record myself on video playing drums?
Q. I want to play drums and set up a video camera to record me, but at the same time actually sound somewhat decent.
Also to record myself doing drum covers to songs.
How do I do this without mic's?

A. most video cameras have a decent enough mic for your needs. If you set up your stereo speakers on either side of your kit facing out, and turn them up loud, you should be able to pick up both the drums and the music on the video camera mic. Make sure to put the camera on a stand in front of the kit with a wide angle shot to pick up everything in the shot without moving around.

The best way to do what you want is to use a mixer and 2 good overhead mics in stereo with the music going through head phone monitors that you can hear well. Feed the line out of the mixer to the audio in of a dvd recorder and the video out of the camera to the video in on the dvd recorder. the mics should be set up on either side of the drum set at a decent height above the kit. use the monitor out or control room out of the mixer to feed the headphone monitor amp.
This second method while sounding much better requires some technical ability to pull off correctly.

Would like to know how to record audio and video into my computer.?

Q. I work for a church and we would like to record the services both audio and video and have the information go directly into a computer. We have a video system that we can employ but we need to know what software is necessary, what computer you would recommend and what the process is. Any information would be extremely helpful. We want to post audio and video onto our website.

A. if you want to work with videos you'll need a computer

core 2 duo
2gb Ram memory
250GB HD
a 256mb graphic card

you need a digital camera to record what you want

you can use nero vision to edit the videos

you can upload the sites at youtube which is easier to use

I need to purchase a video mixer to make dvd's live during a church service.?
Q. What features should it I look for the device to have to get the best quality video. I also would like to be able to hook up at least 3 cameras.

A. There are a couple of products out there that will work. I would start with the NewTek Tricaster and Video Toasters.

http://www.newtek.com/

If you have a secondary recorder or computer to record on, you could get one of the Focus (formerly Videonics) mixers:

http://www.videonics.com/solutions/video_production.asp

You can also get the Roland Mixer:

http://www.roland.com/products/en/V-4/index.html

I think the most important thing for a live switch set-up is the ability to preview all of your sources. That means either having a video monitor for each camera or a display screen that show all of your cameras. The NewTek products and the Focus products have this built in. I don't know about the others.

hi was just wondering if the jvc gy hm 700 would be good for live broadcasting to also film my church services?
Q. I have also looked at the jvc gy-hm100e but really dont know the best camera to get that would give a professional broadcasting look

A. If the task is only for "live broadcasting" then using a camcorder is not a good idea. Camcorders have a tendency to go to sleep after a period on not recording video/audio and when they go to sleep, they power down and no video will be "broadcast".

The "best camera" to get "a professional broadcasting look" is to use an appropriate studio broadcast camera. Refer to the professional broadcast areas at
Canon: http://www.usa.canon.com/cusa/broadcast/products/ptz_cameras
Sony: http://pro.sony.com/bbsc/ssr/cat-broadcastcameras/cat-broadcastcamerapantiltzoom/
Ikegami: http://ikegami.com/product_indexb.html

If you reduce the requirement to something other than "a professional broadcasting look", then the shopping list changes.

What is a very good video camera that I can buy for about $30 max?

Q. I'm 15 and jobless and loves to fish. I would like to record some of my fishing "adventures" and share it with everyone but I don't have a video camera to record with. I have my phone but the quality is not really good :/ I tried but it was really crappy. It kinda lags when the video is played and it's really aggravating xD Since I am jobless and my parents don't give me any money or at least allowance for doing chores and stuff (boo) I save about $25 from just picking up change on the ground and stuff. Btw, that took FOREVER! cx So I'm just wondering what I could get with it because I don't feel like waiting anymore. I can get legally get a job but I don't have time to do anything. Mostly because sports and ROTC. My dream camera or camcorder is a GoPro but it's ate least 160-300+ dollars! xP I guess I'm gonna have to wait for a long long time until I get something as nice as that.

A. Anything under $100 is going to be no better than your cell phone. Save your money, learn how to pick up odd jobs.

Your cell phone likely gets 2-4 gigs of data for each hour of video. Hold off until you can afford a camera that can get at least 8 gigs (Like the goPro).

What kind of video camera should I get ?
Q. What kind of video camera should I get? Look, I'm a craft person here, I make things out of polymer clay , resin , and other stuff. So... I wanted to make videos of me doing this and me doing that. You know, like I want to teach them how to make resin charms and stuff ! Please HELP!!! Can't decide!!
Thanks!

A. HD camcorders interpolate the video, which means of every 25 frames of video, 4 or 5 frames are taken by the lens assembly; the other frames in between these are filled in by the camcorder inner circuitry, thus giving you not true video. It looks like this -one frame from the lens assembly, 7or 8 from the electronic circuitry, one frame from the lens assembly, 7or 8 from the electronic circuitry, one frame from the lens assembly, 7or 8 from the electronic circuitry, one frame from the lens assembly, 7or 8 from the electronic circuitry, from front to back of the video. Near impossible to edit, even when you have the Multi processor computer with the big Graphics and sound cards that is required to edit, view, watch and work with the files a HD camcorder produces.

Consumer level HD camcorders have 4 problems. 1) Blurry, fuzzy, out of focus areas closely around people in videos taken by consumer level HD camcorders. 2) Any movement, even a wave or lifting an arm, while in front of a recording consumer level HD camcorder, results in screen ghosts and artifacts being left on the video track, following the movement. Makes for bad video, sports videos are unwatchable. 3) These Consumer level HD camcorders all have a habit of the transferred to computer files are something you need to convert, thus losing your HD quality, to work with your editing software. 4) Mandatory maximum record times - 1 hour, 30 minutes, 8 minutes, 3 minutes – four different times advertised as maximum record time for some consumer level HD camcorders. No event I have ever been to is that short. Either take multiple camcorders or pack up with out getting the end of the event on video.

MiniDV is currently the most popular format for consumer digital camcorders. MiniDV camcorders are typically more affordable than their HDD and DVD counterparts. Each MiniDV tape will typically hold an hour of footage at normal recording speed and quality. MiniDV tapes are available for purchase at not only electronic and camera stores, but also at drugs stores and grocery stores, making them easy to find while your on vacation. There are literally hundreds of MiniDV camcorders available; both in standard and high-definition. And add the fact that to get a HD camcorder that could produce better video quality footage, one would have to spend in excess of $3500 for that camcorder that could produce higher quality video.

Q. I'm looking for a webcam that records very well like it cam from a video camera and never has that whole video lag thing most have, price doesn't matter as long as quality is good.

A. Getting a HD camcorder is taking a step backward in Video Quality. HD camcorders Interpolate the video, which means of every 25 frames of video, 4 or 5 frames are taken by the lens assembly, the other frames in between these are filled in by the camcorder inner circuitry, thus giving you not true video.

How can I record Video and Audio separately?

Q. I have a video camera that I would like to use due to it's high quality video, but since I am recording myself doing vocal covers for youtube, I have a rock band mic plugged into a usb port on my computer and would like to use the audio from that. I don't want to record them separately, I just want the video to be taken from the camera and the audio to be taken from the mic. Is there any way to do this?

A. Sure, in fact it is the preferred way as consumer grade camcorders don't record audio very well, especially music and singing. When you begin your recording session, use a sound marker; I use a clapper board but you can use a hand clap (my friend uses a dog training clicker). When you edit your video, add your mic'ed recoding to the time-line and after you line it up with the video (and audio) track and match the "clap", then delete the audio track of the video. If you mess up, you can always use the Back function of your editor (the editor doesn't actually edit the original video file, it makes a copy to work with).

How could my band record music with good quality?
Q. We only have an HD video camera and we use the sound recording option. we want to get noticed but we don't have enough money yet to go to a studio in town.

A. download audacity, its free. you can record each track individually (guitar, vocals, etc) with the camera then mix it together in audacity when you upload it to a computer

Im into filming but I need a good video camera. What kind should I get?

Q. I need a video camera that records great video; good enough video to pass on as a movie worth seeing, if you know what I mean. I need something like a camcorder, nothing too proffesional. And I would probably get it off of ebay. Any ideas of what kind, brand is best?
I really do care about price though...If its below the price of 200$ then thats good.

A. Unfortunately, there are very few cameras under $200 that perform fairly. How much time do you have? If I were you, I'd try to save up maybe at least $100 more dollars, or $200. That way you won't spend too much money, and can still get a fairly good camera. Since you're going to be looking on eBay, my best advice is to observe. I got my canon GL2 for $1500 off of eBay and while it wasn't the lowest price, I went on eBay everyday for about 3 weeks, and got an idea of the different prices and packages available. Then once I was ready to buy one, I knew exactly how much the price should be. With the eBay route, it is possible to find fairly decent camcorders for around $200, although you will most likely have to do some digging. If I were you, I'd try to find something from the panasonic pv-gs series. These are good cameras in general, and you might be able to find a low priced gs150 or gs65, both 3ccd cams. Hope this helps!

Does anyone know any good movie makers?
Q. I think move makers is the correct phrase? :S

I recently got a video camera which records movies on DVD-R discs & DVD-RAM discs (the smaller ones). I have used both of these types of discs & am hoping to edit them, add special effects & text & so on. I am completely new to this so a less complicated programme would be better. Any suggestions?

A. TAKE THE CAMERA BACK!!!

DO NOT BUY A DVD BASED CAMCORDER.

Highest compression of the available storage formats results in lost data = poor video quality... especially if you have any intention of ever editing. The DVD based camcorders will compress into a VOB file typically not useful directly by most video editors. That typically means ripping the DVD or using the analog AV cables that come with the camcorder and transferring low-quality analog video through a analog/digital bridge.

DO NOT BUY A DVD BASED CAMCORDER.

The BEST quality video comes from camcorders that use miniDV tape (which record into DV format for standard definition video). There is very little compression applied and if your computer has a firewire port, DV can be editied by pretty much any video editing application. You will use the DV port of the camcorder connected to the firewire port of your computer - using a firewire cable (firewire, i.Link, IEEE1394 are all the same thing).

DO NOT BUY A DVD BASED CAMCORDER.

Higher video quality than DVD based and not quite miniDV tape based camcorder video quality are the hard drive and certain higher-end flash based camcorder - they typically compress a lot into a MPEG file format. Most (not all) video editors can deal with this with not additional codecs - but the translation apps are available for all editing apps to deal with them.

DO NOT BUY A DVD BASED CAMCORDER.

When you use MiniDV tape, it is your "archive". Fill a 60 minute tape, pop out the tape, put in a new one and start rolling. I can use around 5 seconds from the time I press stop, replace a tape and am recording again.

When you use a hard drive based or flash memory based camcorder, what happens when you run out of memory? You need to transfer video to a computer, delete the files from the camcorder and start shooting again. Yes, they hold menay hours of video - you have to be sure to clean it out each time - just like you need to remember to carry blank tapes.

DO NOT BUY A DVD BASED CAMCORDER.

Video on things for sale is only part of the whole ecosystem. Most low-end and mid-range camcorders do not have any manual audio control and have to rely on an auto audio leveling circuit. For the most part, this auto-audio gain mechanism cannot deal with loud music - this can be loud from a marching band or loud from amplified instruments. The resulting audio will be muddy and not usable. You can either find a Sony camcorder (DCR-HC28, DCR-HC96) that has a menu selection for normal or low gain for the audio or you can use an external device to control the gain (like a BeachTek XLR adapter - but you would be using a camcorder with a mic-in jack and XLR mics) or you can find a camcorder with manual audio control. The least expensive ones I know of are the Canon HV20 or Sony HDR-HC7.

DO NOT BUY A DVD BASED CAMCORDER.

Both the Sony DCR-HC28 and DCR-HC96 do not have a proper mic-in jack - they do have a Sony proprietary "active interface" shoe. Normally, that would mean you are locked into using ONLY Sony proprietary mics that work with the proprietary shoe... but, if you get http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/47... ... then you can use any mic or XLR adapter with a 1/8" jack. B&H is the only place these seem to exist - you can't even get them directly from Sony!

DO NOT BUY A DVD BASED CAMCORDER.

How can shift the iphone picture and the camera video recording easily to the iphone picture and the camera?

Q. I want to shift the iphone picture and the camera video recording to my computer and share it with my fa miry and friends

A. There are a couple ways to do this. One is to sync the iPhone & computer using iTunes. Another is to open the picture or video, and email it. And lastly, another way is to connect the iPhone to a windows computer without itunes, select use as camera or open files when windows recognizes it as a new device, and copy them over.

What's the best point and shoot camera for video recording?
Q. What's the best point and shoot camera for video recording? Cash limit is $200. Thanks!

A. one of the better products in this price range is the Casio Exilim EX-Z80... it has a youtube capture (640x480 @30fps) ...it also records in a higher Wide VGA (848 x 480 @ 30 fps), perfect for watching video on a widescreen monitor or TV. and it records to the H.264/AVC AAC, MOV format... which will allow the video to be transfered to Apple multimedia devices directly without being re-encoded. There are a number of cameras that record video to other formats...such as MJPEG and Quicktime...but the audio portion is usually WAV... and that audio format uses up more space and conversion is needed when watching on PMP devices. Its currently on sale at B&H for $140. This camera is also not a slacker when it comes to other features , face detection, and image quality. Another nice unique feature for video fans is a dedicated Movie button. No need to dig though screen menus and you can go from shutter button to movie button instantly!
Good Luck and happy shooting

How is the camera and video recorder on the new ipod touch?
Q. I was wondering if the camera and video recording was good quality. Also if its worth getting it. And also about the face chat.

Thanks

A. It's decent. It's not like the best thing on the market but itll do if you just want to take pictures or video in the light. FaceTime is awesome, it's very smooth and now you can even facetime chat with people who own macs

I really want to get into photography and was looking into some cameras. The Kodak EasyShare Z981 seemed good?

Q. but unfortunately it doesn't have 1080p video recording (which I would really like). Are there any other cameras that are similar to this in price and mega pixels but record video in 1080p?

A. Hi, Kodak Playsport and newly released Kodak PlayTouch have 1080p video recording.
The Kodak Playsport is a great mini camcorder with waterproofing which has as much appetite for adventure as you do. And it's not afraid to get wet. This audacious little camera can plunge up to 10 feet under water and capture the entire experience in full 1080p HD. And you don't need to worry about blurry footage when things get a little shaky. With built-in image stabilization, the Kodak Playsport will stay steady as a rock. From the waves, to the slopes, to the mud-soaked trails, this Kodak Playsport was made for the extremes.

Kodak PlayTouch video camera has 3 inches wide touchscreen technology; you can easily skim through the HD videos with just a fingertip touch. With new on-camera editing and Kodak's exclusive Share button, the PlayTouch video camera makes it easy for consumers to share their favorite moments with friends and family in full 1080p HD.

What is a good camera to shoot 1080p YouTube videos?
Q. I would like to buy a new camera that shoots 1080p video for YouTube. I've been looking at some Canon ones but I am still undecided. Also would be nice if it's in the $200 and under range.

A. Canon ixus 115 hs an 220 hs have got 1080p video recording (under 200 dollars)
Sony WX 50 shoots 1080 p at 60 fps and has its price under 170 dollars
Try choosing any one from the above listed

Which camera takes good photos and videos like these?

Q. I'm looking for an awesome camera(DSLR/SLR) that's under $800 and takes amazing photos like this
pic:http://studiobportraits.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/06/Professional-head-shot-of-beautiful-high-school-senior-pictures-at-Studio-B-Portraits.jpg

i know that the pic was edited but im a pro at photoshop so that shouldnt be a problem. I'm just looking for a camera best for personal/ family photoshoots for a trip that i'm going on for 6 months.

and can record a video that is clear like this

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yc3iprr1VGk&feature=channel_video_title

or anything close?

I was looking at a Nikon d3100 but i wasnt sure if it did a good job which is why i'm asking.
Thanks in adavance! :)

A. forget getting an SLR, those use 35mm film and are not capable of shooting video, period. the dSLR would be an option.

What made that a good picture was careful selection of the background and the elimination of shadows by using a light diffuser. neither of these are a function of the camera or photoshop. it is mostly smart planning on the part of the photographer, someone who knows the craft.

if you want to get photos like this, then you need to study. most community colleges offer photography production courses. enroll or at least pick up the textbook at the bookstore and read it.

im looking for a new SLR-like camera around $400...any suggestions?
Q.

A. Ok you need a Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ50 owner to actually set the record straight on the camera then a so called expert like flotoace. I got this camera over a DSLR for a few things that DSLR cannot do. First of all if you buy a DSLR camera you will need to buy about 3-6 Lens in order to get the zoom of what the FZ-50 can get you. the FZ-50 can go from 35-420mm, price out the lens for the DSLR lens and see how much you will spend. Yes the 50 can only go to F-stop 3.7 at 420mm where the DSLR can go to 2.8 at sporting events...at a heafty weight where you will need a tripod for it while the 50 can be handheld. Now the picture quality: Wow i say the 50 gives alot of the so called DSLR great cameras a run for the money in this. I have taken stunning pics with my 50 and have put them up against other DSLR in my photo club and i have walked away with DSLR owners grumbling under thier breath that they bought the wrong cameras. The quality of the pictures, colors, sharpness is just crazy. To look at pictures that at least 740 owners of the 50 have taken go to this site:
www.flickr.com
enter in Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ50 and you will see amazing pics.
I did not want to carry all this equipment that you would have to with the DSLR owners have to in order to just take a picture.
Another advantage is that the FZ-50 lets you grow into the camera, lets you learn and grow. Yes it has full auto, Scene mode, and you can have full manual control too...oh and can DSLR take video in either 4:3 or 16:9 mode? Thought not!
Here are some sample pics i have taken with the 50...enjoy:

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2124/2104367010_ec10d61acb.jpg
oh and if any DSLR owner ask...yes i have enlargeged some of my pics all the way to 30x36 with no problems in picture quality at all. good luck on you decision.

Sony a55 vs Nikon d3100?
Q. I don't know anything about cameras. I'm looking for something under 1000$. Plain and simple. Which one is better?
Ok I shouldn't have said I don't know anything about cameras. I have some knowledge of dslr cameras and am not interested in buying a point and shoot.

A. Hi,

Both Sony a55 and the Nikon d3100 are DSLRs and for people with some knowledge about photography. I am not saying that you cannot operate the camera... you can definitely!!!

If you are willing to spend $1000 and wanting some interest to learn photography you should think of the Sony a55 as this camera is of the newest technology with a translucent mirror tech APS-C type CMOS sensor, 16.2MP (mega pixel), 10fps (frames per second) shooting mode, panorama (you will love this), Full HD video recording (never need a video camera) and a host of other features. You can always start to learn from scratch.

Nikon d3100 - small sensor (bigger the better), 14.2 MP (bigger the better), 3fps shooting mode (bigger the better) and other specific Nikon features.

But if you do not want a DSLR then you can buy a simple point-and-shoot camera which would fulfill your requirements. Sony is the leader in P&S cameras. Some of them you may try are Sony DSC-W570 or the latest DSC-HX100v 30x zoom 16.2 MP (to be launched in May 2011).

---------------------------------------------------- Updated --------------------------------------------

@Jens ------ in reply to -------

Just wanted to say that what I mentioned above is after reading the accurate specs from the respective websites of the 2 companies.

The Sony a55 sensor size is 23.5 x 15.6mm (APS-C SENSOR) (Bigger Sensor)
The Nikon d3100 sensor size is 23.1 x 15.4 mm (DX FORMAT also known as APS-C Sensor. Nikon uses its own term as "DX Format") (Smaller Sensor)

The more MP (in bigger sensor) the higher the crop factor you get in photos.

What is the best video camera with decent sound recording (fit for beginner movie making) for under $1000?

Q. I am primarily interested in basic filming equipment which would be used to film trips to haunted locations. These locations will often be very dark, so infrared, and decent low-light recording is a must.

Thanks!

A. The only camcorders that have a built-in infrared emitter are made by Sony and have the "SuperNightShot" or "NightShot" feature. If the feature is not listed, then the camcorder does not have the built-in emitter.

There is no consumer camcorder under $1,300 with "decent low light recording" behavior. The lenses and imaging chips are too small.

The least expensive Sony camcorder with an infrared emitter and a mic jack (required for any serious or semi-serious "film making") is the Sony HDR-HC9. As a miniDV tape based camcorder, transferring video (DV or HDV) to a computer requires a firewire cable to connect the camcorder's DV port to the computer's firewire port. USB will not work and USB-firewire converter/adapter/cable things won't work.

What is a good compact camera for recording high-volume, high-definition audio/video?
Q. Hello everybody. Here is the problem I'm having:

I am an enthusiastic concert attendee, and I go to a lot of Metal shows. I also like to record parts of the shows I go to, so I can go back and re-live the experience later. But these shows are LOUD! Around 115-130 decibels, to be more specific. And at that kind of high volume, most camera microphones are overloaded and the resulting videos have sound that is distorted, scratchy, and unlistenable.

What I have tried already:

I have owned a Fujifilm JV-100 in the past, and I currently own a Canon SX-260 HS and neither of these have decent audio. My fiancée's old Sony Cybershot DSC-W50, on the other hand, has great sound quality. The only issue with that is that it's ancient, shoots poor quality photos, and doesn't have full-HD video capability. I'm also not sure if the newer models of Sony Cybershots have the same quality of internal microphone and when I asked a sales representative about this and she was unable to give me an answer.

Limitations:

Using an actual camcorder is out of the question, as is buying an expensive digital SLR. It must be a compact, point-and-shoot camera because otherwise the event staff/venue security deem it a "professional device" and will not allow it inside the concert venues without a press pass, which I obviously do not have. I also cannot use a separate audio recording device, because it is impractical and I need the convenience of all the components (camera, video recorder, audio recorder) in one single device.

What I need:

Simply put, I need a compact, point-and-shoot camera that is capable of shooting in low-light settings, that is capable of recording HD video, and has an internal microphone that doesn't fuzz out at high volumes. I also need it on a budget, which is less than $400.

Please offer me some suggestions for what model camera I should look into buying. I'm tired of wasting my money on cameras that don't work under the rigorous conditions I have described. If there are other metalheads out there who've had the same problem, I'd really appreciate it if you could give me your recommendations. Thanks in advance.

A. The Sony Cybershot DSC-WX10 [ 16.2 megapixels]
Panasonic Lumix LX5 [ 10.1 megapixels ]
Nikon Coolpix S8100 [ 12.1 megapixels ] check the great prices via abesofmaine.com

What is the best digital camera for concerts?
Q. I go to alot of concerts, and I need to get a new camera that has the ability to take vibrant picture, despite the low lighting of the venue, and have a fast shutter speed so the pictures don't turn out blurry.
The video on the camera needs to be able to record very loud music, and not turn out like a big growl into the speakers.
Perferably slim-ish, to be able to sneak it into the venues that don't allow it.
Reccomendations?

A. I have the newest Sony Cybershot and it's worked beautifully. I got it for around $200 and the clarity of the music is good and the blurriness is better than older Sony models.

Should I get a nikon d7000 or a camcorder?

Q. So, in a few months i will receive some cash (around 500-600 pound) and decided i would spend it on updating my photography and videography equipment. I currently own a nikon d70 which i bought second hand in 2010 and a 720p 24fps samsung camcorder which cost about £180 back in 2011. I own a few lenses for my dslr and am happy with how it is. BUT i am definately feeling the limitations of an almost fully auto camcorder. In addition it also has a low quality built in microphone with no options to do pretty much anything.

So basically, should i get a mid range camcorder...

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Panasonic-V700-1080p-Ready-Camcorder/dp/B006T9JHZK/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1358019741&sr=8-1

and external microphone...

... or get a nikon d7000, with many of the same video options and a headphone jack. I do feel the d7000 is the better option as my d70 is almost 8 years old and the bigger range of manual control, accessories and higher spec all round may produce more quality video.

http://www.digitalrev.com/product/nikon-d7000-dslr-digital-camera/OTk0NQ_A_A

But the frame rate, zoom and overall professional look of a camcorder for video are getting to me.

Also, i could maybe hang on for a while before making videos and get a good microphone for a d7000, but, i dont know. Thanks in advance!

A. You can make some stunning videos on a DSLR, while keeping the benefits (against a 3 sensor camcorder) of Shallow DOF from the large sensor, reduced noise and cost. I can't comment much on Nikon, I'm a Canon user, but if you have some good lenses that you like I'd go for a body upgrade.

For audio, I use Zoom H1s - dirt cheap and very reliable. I often mount one on the tripod mount and attach it to my audio in with a short cable, or use a clapper board and sync them later. Most dialogue on films I record with a boom mic and sync.

Good HD camera or camcorder to record concerts (good sound quality)?
Q. i'm going to a music festival in 2 months called Soundwave Revolution and i'd love to record the acts
any suggestions for something not so cheap but not so expensive with good HD quality sound and video?

A. Check out this link, it listed top rated and affordable camcorders to buy: http://lovetosharethis.blogspot.com/2011/06/top-best-hd-and-digital-camcorders-can.html

I need phone ideas for my upcoming upgrade.?
Q. OK, so my upgrade is due in august and i just heard about the lg thrill. And i was basically wondering, if anyone knew like when its supposed to come out, and what its supposed to look like. like maybe you could give me links to check out or something. But the other part of this is i was wondering what other phones out there could i get or maybe wait for to come out. (btw i only like touchscreens)

Well thank you to whoever may answer this and i hope you have a wonderful 4th of July(:

How is the camera and video recorder on the new ipod touch?

Q. I was wondering if the camera and video recording was good quality. Also if its worth getting it. And also about the face chat.

Thanks

A. It's decent. It's not like the best thing on the market but itll do if you just want to take pictures or video in the light. FaceTime is awesome, it's very smooth and now you can even facetime chat with people who own macs

which is more telling, a mirror, a camera or a video recording ?
Q. I've seen all three of myself, in the mirror, on camera and on a video recording. I find myself to be the best looking in a mirror. I can handle the way I look in the mirror, but especially in pictures
I think I look ugly. So which more telling, the camera or the mirror or the video recording ?

A. Actually, your image in the mirror is seen in reverse. That is the way you see yourself most often and the way you think you look. The still photo or video is the way you do look. The video recording contains the most information and would be the most telling.

What is the best video camera for making low-budget YouTube movies?

Q. I am on a very low budget and plan on getting something a higher quality video camera later, but right now I can't really spend more than $500. What advice do you have?

A. HD Camcorders and DSLR Cameras interpolate the video, which means of every 25 frames of video, 4 or 5 frames are taken by the lens assembly; the other frames in between these are filled in by the camcorder inner circuitry, thus giving you not true video. Near impossible to edit, even when you have the Multi port processor computer with the big 1GB Graphics card and a Sound card that is required to edit, view, watch and work with the files these camcorders produce.

Consumer Level HD Camcorders and DSLR Cameras have 4 problems. 1) Blurry, fuzzy, out of focus areas closely around people in videos taken by consumer level HD camcorders. 2) Any movement, even a wave or lifting an arm, while in front of a recording Consumer Level HD Camcorder and DSLR Cameras, results in screen ghosts and artifacts being left on the video track, following the movement. Makes for bad video, sports videos are unwatchable. 3) These Consumer Level HD Camcorders and DSLR Cameras all have a habit of the transferred to computer files are something you need to convert, thus losing your HD quality, to work with your editing software. 4) Mandatory maximum record times - 1 hour, 30 minutes, 8 minutes, 3 minutes – four different times advertised as maximum record time for some Consumer Level HD Camcorders and DSLR Cameras. No event I have ever been to is that short. Either take multiple camcorders and DSLR Cameras or pack up with out getting the end of the event on video.

And add the fact that to get a HD camcorder that could produce better video quality footage, one would have to spend in excess of $3500 for that camcorder that could produce higher quality video

How do I show a instant replay while projecting a live recording stream?
Q. I'm using 3 cameras and a video mixer unit to project the live telecast of an event on to a projector screen. It's a sports event and I'd like to show instant replays during the event. How can it be done? Is it possible with Adobe Premier Pro?

A. It requires you to buy a small electronic box (generally called something like A/V delayer), which you can plug in the AV Composite cable from your camera to the box, then run a second AV Composite cable out to a monitor/projector. I am aware that a company called Allen Avionics, Inc make one that can replay up to 2 mins quite cheaply. Take a look at their website for more info: http://www.allenavionics.com/GPDL/AVDL.htm

Just use a AV splitter cable to run one of your cameras, or the output on your video mixer, into the input on the box, then run the output into an additional camera input on your mixer. You may need to practice using it, as it can get quite fiddly when you are under the pressure of your live audience.

what is a good sound recording video camera that is not too expensive?

Q. I'd like to put drum videos on youtube and show my friends so what would be a good video camera that has good sound quality?

The sound is more important than the actual video.

A. A lot of video cameras these days include a 1/8" microphone jack.

You may be able to find a decent microphone with a 1/4" connector and use some form of adapter to plug that into a well priced camera.

This is almost always the best way to get good sound out of your camera. It also lets you position your microphone and camera in different places, hopefully to achieve a better overall video.

I would also advise you to look at the position of the microphone jack on the camera. Some of them can be in odd places where one of the adapters may not fit. You may still be able to get away with a 1/4" to 1/8" cable.

Or you may just be able to buy a better quality webcam-friendly microphone with the 1/8" connector standard, and ignore most of the above. These seem to be geared toward picking up voice close distances, however.

This doesn't answer your question directly, and I apologize for that. I have never seen a video camera with any decent quality built-in microphone. I have seen (and heard) the better results of using that microphone jack.

You may also be able to save money by adding the microphone yourself.

Good luck!

How to make photos from a digital video camera recording.?

Q. We have a Sony digital video camera that records on a small magnetic tape. When we watch recordings of our kids sports events, you can pause the recording and the still image on the TV is fantastic! Is there a way to turn these still images into photographs that can be developed at the drug store? I haven't tried taking a picture of the TV screen yet, we're looking for something a little higher tech.

A. Most editing programs will let you do a screen capture. This would be done on the computer.

What is a good digital video camera for recording piano playing?
Q. For youtube and stuff. I have a normal piano not an electric one. I also want to use the camera for recording sports and stuff. I want the sound on the piano to not be distorted like it is on most cameras and I want the sound to sound like it really does. Thanks. I would prefer that it was under $200. THANKS!!!!!

A. Any kind of Point & Shoot camera would fit your shooting style and price range.

Look for:
Canon Powershot
Nikon Coolpix
Sony Cybershot

Good luck!

Which digital camera is best for recording video?
Q. I'm ready to buy a digital camera but I would like to get an opinion from the masses.

Heres the scenario...I ride a sport bike and I plan on mounting a digital/video camera to my bike while I ride. The video length needs to be longer than just 30 seconds. I also want good quality picture capabilities as well. I'm hoping to spend no more than $275.

Any suggestions?

A. If you buy a digital camera that also shoots 'video'...then make sure it has a resolution of at least 640X480 at 30fps...and also records audio.
Canon is a very good brand that takes high quality 'video'.
The newer ones can record 1GB at a time (about 8 minutes)...and others have no limitations except for the memory card you are using (up to 4 GB).
Obviously digicams can not compete with dedicated video cameras (handycams) for video quality...so keep that in mind.
Frankly, I do not know how a digicam will handle the 'rough treatment' while connected to a sport bike, but good luck anyway.

If you record a live concert using a stereo mic why does it not sound as good when played back at home?

Q. I recorded a live concert and when I played it at home the low frequencies are not how the sounded at the concert. The bass is fuzzy and not powerful. Would it help if i played it through really big speakers rather than normal hifi ones? Your advice would be appreciated. Also can you recommend good mic to use when recording a concert? 10 points for most informative response.

A. Your problem can be seen all over youtube. Many people record concerts with video cameras and such and get horrible results. The reason that your microphone doesn't sound like a Professional one is because of many things.

First, your microphone is probably not professional grade. And when I mean professional, I mean shure and other major company branded.
However, even that probably won't compare to a pro recording because your recording probably has a lot of background noise of people screaming and such.

Lastly, in professional recordings of concerts, everything is balanced through equalizers, mixer, and all other equipment. They have the capability of changing single channels to record what they want to hear. This means that every different audio source has its own volume and such. For example, say we have a guitar, piano, and a mic. With multichannel's, we can lower the volume and the guitar while keeping same volume for the piano and mic. All of these sources get put into mixers and exported to three places, the audience sound system, the on stage sound system, and a computer which records everything.

Also, your mic probably has a specific range it records at. Most like it does not record long ranges. The Manuel's of professional grade mics have diagrams of which areas around the mic are recorded at optimal performance.

How to lessen bass when recording live concerts with a digital camera?
Q. I often record videos at concerts, using my Panasonic DMC-TZ15 digital camera, however, the sound is often harsh and full of bass from being too close. I don't want to move back, as that will diminish the visual aspect. I've heard of perhaps partially covering the microphone? Any details would be extremely helpful.

A. For good sound, you have to use good microphones.

The built in microphone is good for the mid frequencies and the bass (low freqencies) can cause square waves spoiling the sound. This will overload the electronics and reduce the clarity of other frequencies too including any vocals.

There's nothing you can do for the bass other than buying a camera with external microphone attachment or using camera for video and a different setup for recording the sound.

What is a good digital video camera for recording loud live music?
Q. I currently have a Sony Mini DV camera that shoots good enough video when shooting my band, but the sound sucks. My Sony point & shoot digital camera sounds better. I want a small camera with a good size hard drive that records really good sound for loud live rock & roll. Any ideas?

A. Hi Timpala,

The best option,in my opinion, would be a camcorder with a
external microphone. I understand that's not ideal at concerts.
So,maybe these links are helpfull for you :

http://wize.com/digital-camcorders/t50422-sound-quality

Searching the net, I stumbled upon this again and again.
It's a unknown brand to me but it seems to have good
sound quality (mind it has a resolution of only 640x480) :

Are you allow to take a pictures from your digital camera when you take a tour inside the White House?
Q. I'm going on my Washington DC trip later on this month and my class of 2011 will be the first class in my school that actually gets to go inside the White House. I'm just wondering if we had a camera, are we allow to take pictures?

A. Nope:

"Prohibited items include, but are not limited to, the following: handbags, book bags, backpacks, purses, food and beverages of any kind, strollers, cameras, video recorders or any type of recording device"

what is the difference between a point and shoot and a digital camera?
Q. looking for a camera and i came across the options of point and shoot or digital at first i thought that meant the professionally used cameras but when i clicked point and shoot it actually had some of the cheaper priced name brand cameras. is there a difference in picture quality? if so, which takes more professional looking photos?
ALSO do either take movie quality or music video quality video?

A. Basic compact cameras that have very limited control options are called point-and-shoot. It's a type of camera. You basically just point the camera to your subject and click the button. Point-and-shoot cameras can either be film based or digital.

Digital refers to the way the picture is saved or stored. Digital cameras use electronics (memory cards or chips) to store the picture instead of using film. Digital cameras can either be point-and-shoot, dSLR, or hybrid.

http://keerok-photography.blogspot.com/2011/05/best-camera-for-me.html

Picture quality depends on the skill of the photographer. The type of camera used or the way it is saved is of little importance.

Professional is a label given to people who get paid doing what they do. A person can be a professional photographer if he gets paid to take pictures or if the pictures he takes get sold. Whether the pictures are great looking or not is beside the point. Professional basically means money involved.

Movies are just another form of medium just like still photographs. Movies can be shot with film or done electronically. Those that are stored electronically are better referred to as video.

The best camera for getting video is the camcorder. The most high-tech camcorders to date are digital.

The camcorder is a video device. If you want great sound to go with your video, use an equally great sound capturing device or audio recorder. The really good digital camcorders generally have good sound recording too with options to use external microphones for better sound capture.
