Handheld camera for live gigs?

My Auty =]

Looking for a handheld camera for recording video and sound for live gigs, a good example of what results I'm looking for is the quality of this video, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SxjXMpMmRiQ

Answer
for video quality... this will depend on the lighting...
Luckily for that sample you provided, the lighting guy really knew what he was doing and lit the stage very well. Not every performance will be like that.
Camera suggestions could be any digital camera. Heck, a common iphone could have recorded that with similar video quality.

For audio quality... ... you'll need a camera that will support a mic input.

Best suggestion:
Canon G12
http://www.photographybay.com/2011/01/24/canon-powershot-g12-review/

- features a tilt screen so you can hold the camera high and still see the stage while looking at the screen
- has a hot shoe to put a microphone
- mic imput jack

additional research on external mic

Camera and Camcorder Info?

Q. I want to buy a camera and I'm torn between getting a digital camera or an SLR camera. I also want a camcorder that can record in standard definition. The problem is, i don't want to spend a lot of money and i'm not sure where to go.

I want to go to best buy, but i feel like i might get a deal on craigslist or if i go to a non chain store or a store that isn't best buy.

Is craigslist a good deal?
Where else can I go to buy a camera or camcorder that isn't best buy, target, kmart, or walmart?
Any tips or hints to purchasing something new?

I want to use a samson usb microphone (audio) and a kodak digital camera (video) to make movies, can I do it?

Michael

The camera has a mic built in, but I don't want to use it, I'd rather use the better quality Samson C01u usb microphone I have. So when I'm playing guitar, how do I use the Samson for audio and the Kodak for video. I can't "disable" the microphone inside the camera. Is there any solutions to this?

Answer
Yes - it is actually pretty easy. Use the camera to record the video and use the USB mic to record audio. In your video editing software, you can disable the audio from the camera and insert the audio file form your USB mic. You can also sync the audio so that it matches up with the video. I use Roxio software, but pretty much any video editing software will do this.

What's a good camera for recording video and taking pictures?

KRunner

I want a fancy camera that isn't over $600. I want it to be digital and have an amazing zoom and close up picture ability. I also want it to be able to record video too.

Answer
With that price your fancy camera could actually become one of the digital SLR cameras.

One is $40 above your budget but real great is Nikon D3000
http://bestnikondslrcamera.buycameraprice.com/2011/05/28/best-price-best-nikon-dslr-camera-nikon-d3000-10mp-digital-slr-camera-with-18-55mm-f3-5-5-6g-55-200-af-s-dx-vr-nikkor-zoom-lenses-this-week-only.html

but if you want to save budget, actually these $100-$300 cameras will do the tasks just fine for amateur photography.

Best digital camera of 2011? $200 to spend?

http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-Fujifilm-F600EXR-16-0-MP-Digital-Camera-Black-boxpack-/290702261827?pt=Digital_Cameras&hash=item43af347e43#ht_2220wt_1037

"New EXR Auto with a Motion Detection capability to virtually reduce subject blur in all lighting conditions. The built-in GPS functionality adds a Landmark Navigator feature to help photographers pin-point locations and the 15x wide-angle optical zoom lens now doubles its telephoto power (to 30x) thanks to the new intelligent digital zoom mode."

It also adds a new textured finish on the black model and features a 16 megapixel EXR CMOS sensor, 15x optical zoom lens, 3 inch screen, GPS and RAW support. (As this camera is so similar to the predecessor, this review is based on the F550 EXR Review).

Fujifilm FinePix F600EXR Features
The Fujifilm FinePix F600EXR sits at the top of the range in Fujifilm's line-up of pocket-zoom / travel-zoom cameras and features a wide angle 15x optical zoom lens, equivalent to 24-360mm.

Another feature of the F600 is a 16 megapixel CMOS sensor for high speed shooting and Fuji's unique EXR pixel arrangement to give three modes of operation: HR: High Resolution (uses all pixels to make a 16 megapixel images), SN: High Sensitivity for high ISO, low noise at 8 megapixels and DR: for dynamic range improvements (upto 1600% now available), at 8 megapixels.

The F600 and F550 goes beyond what the F500 offers, by including manual controls and RAW support and GPS support. If you don't need or want these features you can save some money by going for the Fujifilm FinePix F500 EXR instead. Both cameras are capable of recording Full HD video with optical zoom and stereo sound.

GPS options are further enhanced on the F600EXR with the following GPS options: GPS On (permanently), On (when camera switched on), Off. Location info ON/OFF. Auto time correction (On without summertime, with summertime, or off), GPS Tracking data on/off (creates a text document on the memory card with GPS information). GPS KM/Mile setting.

In playback you can access landmark navigator, this gives you a compass when the camera is pointed down or a view of GPS landmarks such as public facilities, tourist spots, leisure spots and my landmark. GPS Photo Navigation is another option. You can copy the location info, or search images by date, GPS location name, face, favourites, scene, type of data, or by upload mark (Youtube or Facebook).

Key Features
16.0 megapixel back-lit EXR CMOS sensor
15x optical zoom lens, f/3.5-5.3, 24-360mm in 35mm equivalent
3inch screen, 460k pixels
Full HD video, 30fps, with stereo sound
High speed video 320/160/80fps
Scenes / Pro shooting mode / Pro Focus / Pro Low Light
120/180/360 degrees motion panorama
Image stabilisation: Image-sensor shift type
ISO100 - ISO3200, ISO6400 at 8mp, ISO12800 at 4mp
5cm Macro mode
Pop-up flash (electronic button)
RAW+JPEG mode, Manual controls
New GPS Features

Fujifilm FinePix F600EXR Handling
Despite being quite a compact camera, it features a rubber front grip, along with a textured / rubberised body. There is also another rubber grip on the back of the camera, although they are simply rubber spots where your thumb rests. This design gives good grip generally, although a tripod may still be necessary when using the full optical zoom.

On the back is an easy to use slanted mode dial and a number of buttons on the back provide quick access to the main modes, including playback and video modes. The video button is quite large, however it felt a little spongy which meant I occasionally wondered whether the camera had started recording.

Fujifilm FinePix F600 EXR - virtually the same to look at, except the F600 has a pop-up button for the flash. This also means you can close the flash more easily than the previous model. The camera features a stylish metal body, with a metal tripod mount.

The F600 is really quite compact for a camera with such a large zoom and it's just the lens that protrudes out of the camera when off, meaning it will easily fit into the more compact camera cases such as the Tamrac Neo 14 (possibly one of the smallest cases available for this camera) with a very snug fit.

Menus: The Fujifilm FinePix F600 menus are quite straightforward, with the main controls split into photo menus and setup menus. Another set of options can be changed by using the F button on the back of the camera, this gives quick access to: ISO, Image size, Continuous shooting, GPS settings, Advanced anti blur and film simulation. Although the availability of the options are dependant on the mode you are currently in. More advanced GPS options, IS mode selection, Red-eye removal and RAW options are available in the setup menu, including the option to save the original image - this works when using red-eye removal, pro focus, pro low-light and motion panorama modes.

High quality yet affordable underwater camera?

ccokae

This summer I'm going snorkeling for a few weeks in the Great Barrier Reef and I would love to get some great underwater photos. I have a Nikon D7000. Is there a certain kind of case I put around it to take underwater (this may sound completely ridiculous)? If not, what are some semi-high quality but affordable (under $300) underwater cameras?

Answer
The spacial waterproof cases for Nikon are quite expensive. Sometimes it is easier to buy waterproof camera instead.
Latest waterproof cameras are quite good. On very rare occasions they come faulty, but the same is with regular digital cameras.
If you want camera, that makes good quality pictures on land or underwater, then I would suggest to look into these three cameras: Sony TX5, Panasonic Lumix TS2 and Olympus Rough 8010.
And all three of them cost less than $300 on Amazon.
You just need to decide which features you need more:
Sony TX5 is waterproof to 10 ft, when Panasonic TS2 and Olympus Rough 8010 are both waterproof to 33ft. And Sony TX5 has got the lowest resolution from these three. It's just 10.2 megapixels. Panasonic and Olympus have a resolution of 14MP, which is quite a great difference.
All cameras are shock-, dust-, sand- and freeze-proof. But Olympus 8010 is also a crushproof and designed to withstand a weight up to 220 pounds.
Sony TX5 gives you the opportunity to capture panoramic pictures with it's Sweep Panorama feature. Your images are automatically stitched together, which gives you the extra-wide view of the scenery.
Olympus 8010 has got the panoramic shooting option too. It also comes with a built-in 2GB memory, which is more than most cameras available on the market.
Panasonic TS2 has a good quality video recording. Although all these cameras record video in HD format. But Panasonic TS2 seems to be the most expensive out of them.
But if you do not need waterproof camera right now, Sony are releasing a new Sony Cyber-shot DSC-TX10 in April 2011. It will have a resolution of impressing 16.2 megapixels. And it is going to be the first waterproof camera that can capture 3D still images. You can pre-order this camera and it costs $330.

Answer
Hello,
All three of them are considered to be good cameras. It all depends on what exactly you expect or want from it.

I want a fancy camera that isn't over $600. I want it to be digital and have an amazing zoom and close up picture ability. I also want it to be able to record video too.

With that price your fancy camera could actually become one of the digital SLR cameras.

One is $40 above your budget but real great is Nikon D3000

I'm going on my Washington DC trip later on this month and my class of 2011 will be the first class in my school that actually gets to go inside the White House. I'm just wondering if we had a camera, are we allow to take pictures?

Answer
Nope:

"Prohibited items include, but are not limited to, the following: handbags, book bags, backpacks, purses, food and beverages of any kind, strollers, cameras, video recorders or any type of recording device"

http://www.whitehouse.gov/about/tours-and-events

what is the difference between a point and shoot and a digital camera?

Emily

looking for a camera and i came across the options of point and shoot or digital at first i thought that meant the professionally used cameras but when i clicked point and shoot it actually had some of the cheaper priced name brand cameras. is there a difference in picture quality? if so, which takes more professional looking photos?
ALSO do either take movie quality or music video quality video?

Answer
Basic compact cameras that have very limited control options are called point-and-shoot. It's a type of camera. You basically just point the camera to your subject and click the button. Point-and-shoot cameras can either be film based or digital.

Digital refers to the way the picture is saved or stored. Digital cameras use electronics (memory cards or chips) to store the picture instead of using film. Digital cameras can either be point-and-shoot, dSLR, or hybrid.

http://keerok-photography.blogspot.com/2011/05/best-camera-for-me.html

Picture quality depends on the skill of the photographer. The type of camera used or the way it is saved is of little importance.

Professional is a label given to people who get paid doing what they do. A person can be a professional photographer if he gets paid to take pictures or if the pictures he takes get sold. Whether the pictures are great looking or not is beside the point. Professional basically means money involved.

Movies are just another form of medium just like still photographs. Movies can be shot with film or done electronically. Those that are stored electronically are better referred to as video.

The best camera for getting video is the camcorder. The most high-tech camcorders to date are digital.

The camcorder is a video device. If you want great sound to go with your video, use an equally great sound capturing device or audio recorder. The really good digital camcorders generally have good sound recording too with options to use external microphones for better sound capture.

Should I get a nikon d7000 or a camcorder?

Q. So, in a few months i will receive some cash (around 500-600 pound) and decided i would spend it on updating my photography and videography equipment. I currently own a nikon d70 which i bought second hand in 2010 and a 720p 24fps samsung camcorder which cost about £180 back in 2011. I own a few lenses for my dslr and am happy with how it is. BUT i am definately feeling the limitations of an almost fully auto camcorder. In addition it also has a low quality built in microphone with no options to do pretty much anything.

So basically, should i get a mid range camcorder...

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Panasonic-V700-1080p-Ready-Camcorder/dp/B006T9JHZK/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1358019741&sr=8-1

and external microphone...

... or get a nikon d7000, with many of the same video options and a headphone jack. I do feel the d7000 is the better option as my d70 is almost 8 years old and the bigger range of manual control, accessories and higher spec all round may produce more quality video.

http://www.digitalrev.com/product/nikon-d7000-dslr-digital-camera/OTk0NQ_A_A

But the frame rate, zoom and overall professional look of a camcorder for video are getting to me.

Also, i could maybe hang on for a while before making videos and get a good microphone for a d7000, but, i dont know. Thanks in advance!

A. You can make some stunning videos on a DSLR, while keeping the benefits (against a 3 sensor camcorder) of Shallow DOF from the large sensor, reduced noise and cost. I can't comment much on Nikon, I'm a Canon user, but if you have some good lenses that you like I'd go for a body upgrade.

For audio, I use Zoom H1s - dirt cheap and very reliable. I often mount one on the tripod mount and attach it to my audio in with a short cable, or use a clapper board and sync them later. Most dialogue on films I record with a boom mic and sync.

Good HD camera or camcorder to record concerts (good sound quality)?
Q. i'm going to a music festival in 2 months called Soundwave Revolution and i'd love to record the acts
any suggestions for something not so cheap but not so expensive with good HD quality sound and video?

A. Check out this link, it listed top rated and affordable camcorders to buy: http://lovetosharethis.blogspot.com/2011/06/top-best-hd-and-digital-camcorders-can.html

I need phone ideas for my upcoming upgrade.?
Q. OK, so my upgrade is due in august and i just heard about the lg thrill. And i was basically wondering, if anyone knew like when its supposed to come out, and what its supposed to look like. like maybe you could give me links to check out or something. But the other part of this is i was wondering what other phones out there could i get or maybe wait for to come out.
