What is the best action video camera that can take pictures too?

V V

I want to take good quality video of action events - mounts on cars, helmets etc. so that i can sell it to people, also i want the same camera to be able to link to an instant photo printer.

What video camera could do this? I am from South Africa and my budget is +-R10,000 or $1,200 or less. If there is nothing at this range then what is the next most inexpensive one and at how much?

One more thing, it must be able to link up to a computer and store footage/pictures directly on the computer.
Thank you for that reply Vwbe, but I have looked at Drift and Go Pro but this is not good enough quality from the videos i saw when the videos are compared and shown at the same time on YouTube when viewed on even 720HD. It is not smooth enough for my purposes, as there is still a bit of jerkiness that makes it look home "videoey".

Answer

how do you record video games to a video camera? then to the computer?

Answer
TRANSFERRING VIDEO FROM CAMCORDER TO COMPUTER

Camcorders usually come with connecting cables. Older camcorders have yellow, red and white RCA cables that connect the camcorder to your TV or in this case your computer. Newer camcorders have FIREWIRE connectors that conveniently connect to FIREWIRE connectors in newer computers be it PC or Mac.

FOR CAMCORDERS WITH RCA CONNECTORS & PROPRIETARY CONNECTIONS

If you are using a camcorder with RCA connectors then your computer must have a Video Capture Card or any kind of video capturing device connected to your computer. A webcam is not a video capture device.

RCA connectors/cables come in 3 colors, yellow for video, red and white for left and right audio channel. In some camcorders you will see the 3 outlets with the 3 colors. While other camcorders are provided with a proprietary outlet that needs a proprietary cable with RCA connectors on the other end of the cable. These cables usually come with the camcorder.

Make the connections on the camera and connect the RCA to the outlets of your Video Capture Card/device. Color codes on the RCA and the outlets are important. The yellow RCA is carries the video signal and should be connected to the "video in" outlet of the Video Capture Card/Device. The red and white RCA cables are the left and right audio signal. These can be swapped without any problems.

Sometimes the camcorder has a minijack or headphone jack for outputting sound. And, sometimes the Video Capture Card/Device also uses a minijack to capture sound. If this is the case, only the yellow RCA cable needs to be connected both to the camcorder and the computer. Use a minijack to minijack connector cable to connect the camcorder and the computer. The minijack cable replaces the red and white RCA cable. There is such a thing as a "Y-Cable". The Y-Cable is a minijack on one end and 2 RCAs on the other end. You can use this if the camcorder and the Video Capture Card/Device have different ways to connect audio signals. With all these complexities you don't have to worry about connecting the wrong cables because NOTHING WILL BE DAMAGED in case you make a mistake.

Once the connections are done you are now ready to capture the video on your computer. Video Capture Cards/Devices come with programs that allow you to capture video to a location in your computer. Captured video files are most of the times in .avi or .mpg format stored in your computer.

FOR CAMCORDERS WITH FIREWIRE CONNECTOR OR (IEEE) 1394 CONNECTOR OR i.LINK

New camcorders and new computers come with FIREWIRE or 1394 Connectors. These are more convenient to use. All you have to do is connect just 1 Fireweire (1394) cable to the camcorder and the computer. Turn on your computer and make sure all the programs that need to load during startup have been loaded. Connect the camcorder to the computer using the Firewire cable. Turn on your camera and set it to "play" mode. Not "record" or "camera" mode. Your computer should detect the camera and prompt you to open the associated program. Open the program and look for the "capture" button.

CAPTURE SETTINGS

Leave everything on default and you should be OK. Once you get the hang of it you can start tweaking some settings. Here are common settings that you might want to experiment:

Resolution - this refers to the number of pixel. A 320x240 resolution means 320 pixels horizontally and 240 pixels vertically. 320x240 is the advised capturing resolution for youtube videos. 352x240 is ideal for VCD. 640x480 is the ideal resolution for full screen computer videos. 720x480 is the ideal resolution for DVD.

Data Rate - refers to the amount of data allocated for capturing video(and audio). 300 kbps (kilobit per second) in mpeg-1 format is recommended for youtube. 1152 kbps in mpeg-1 format is for VCD. 2,000 kbps in mpeg-2 format is recommended for DVD. These numbers are here as reference. You will get a low quality DVD if you recorded in 300 kbps mpeg-1. Commercial DVD data rate is 4500 kbps in mpeg-2 format. Data rate also determines the file size of the captured video. The lower the data rate the smaller the file.

Compression - MPEG 4 is for ipod videos, MPEG 3 is for music, MPEG 2 is for DVD, MPEG 1 is for VCD. DV compression is the highest quality compression available to standard desktop/laptop computers. If you plan to capture a video for editing I suggest you capture in DV compression .avi file.

MAKING DVDs

You make DVDs by burning the DVDs in a DVD burner drive. DVD+R and DVD-R are now interchangeable types. Most commercial DVD players can handle both types. Open your DVD burning program. Most of the time DVD burners come with programs to make DVDs. Just follow the instructions on how to make DVDs and you're done!

There is a live discussion on how to capture videos and make DVDs at http://www.overdose.ph/index.php?board=1.0

How to connect a Camera to record Video Game footage?

Alucard

How can I connect a Casio Exilim 10.1 Mega Pixel Camera to record video game footage like the Angry Video Game Nerd and the Irate Gamer? It came with a cable to connect to the RCA inputs on the TV. Real answers only please. I will select the best answer to who helps the most.

Answer
It won't work. The cables are only for displaying on the Television, not the other way around. If you're wanting to do this, you may want to invest in some equipment.

At first I used Pinnacle Studio Ultimate Collection which came with an adapter that allowed me to record my game play videos at a reasonable definition. I got this on sale for about $90, but I believe the standard price is about $130.

I was then referred to the Hauppauge HD Personal Video Recorder, which records my videos in high quality for the current generation consoles as well as inputs for AV cables. If you're interested in seeing the quality, I have videos up on YouTube. Feel free to send me a message at any time. :-)

digital camera recording video?

my cam always skips sounds...i have a finepix a345 4.1 mega pixles...i use rechargable batteries...how can my cam not sound like crap at concerts & get better quality? i recorded a song at def leppard & it skips when i replay it =[ i have tons of other shows ahead to bootleg & would love info on how to inprove sound quality & picture

Answer
The Sony DSC-T50 or T100 digital cameras have very nice video options, they are great for concerts and so far for me have been great. The DSC-T50/T100 uses a condenser microphone so it handles extremely loud noises very well. You are most likely hearing skips in the recorded songs because when you record a concert the huge speakers produce a low bass that makes the camera adjust the sound level to pick up even louder sounds and then when the bass note is over it takes about half a second for the camera to readjust. Take a look at my videos that I have made with my DSC-T50 at concerts. http://youtube.com/profile_videos?user=prometheus53189&p=r

Can I have my laptop camera record things without using skype or something?

Q. I have a Dell from 2012 with a built in video camera. Can I use it to take pictures and video without using skype and sending it to people? If so, how?

Answer
Hi Emma,

I am Shuchi from the Dell Social Media outreach team.

In order to use the inbuilt webcam you need webcam central software for capturing pictures and recording Videos. Usually this software goes preinstalled in the dell system.

Please visit following link for more information regarding the same:

http://dell.to/1eJPKpm

The main screen of Webcam central software has two tabs:

Snap Photos: Pictures can be taken with this option. Further settings available are Photo Size (the default is max-640x480), Self Timer and Burst Rate.
Advanced options include File Format (.jpeg/.bmp) and options to add date and time stamps to pictures.

Record Videos: Videos can be recorded with this option. The settings available are Video Size (the default is max-640x480), Self Timer and Microphone Settings.
Advanced options include Video Format (.wmv/.avi) and an option limiting the video clip duration. When selected, .avi option also shows the audio and video compression options.

General Settings Tab. This setting has the following options: Picture Control - Flicker Control with frequency settings, and video control with backlight, brightness, contrast, Color & Gamma; Face Tracking - Enable/Disable Face Tracking with tracking speed adjustments; Pan & Zoom - Zoom control and Pan & Tilt options.

The tab "Show Todays Captures" has options to Upload pictures to Photobucket, Send by e-mail and Print directly. Another feature "Video Stitch" can be used to combine pictures which can be played as a video file.

The size of a picture when saved as a .jpeg is about 75kb and when saved as a .bmp is about 900k. The size of a 20-sec video when saved as a .wmv is about 2MB and when saved as an .avi with default compression is about 500MB. The Tray Icon has options to Launch the application, and set default options like Start Webcam Central when Windows starts, Enable Mini-mode viewer, and so on.

Please revert to this post if you have any further queries and concerns.

We would recommend you do not post your private information on a public forum.

Thanks & Regards

What would it take to make wearable video cameras on police officers mandatory for all departments?

Q. Im doing a research paper on police misconduct and the solution to it, my solution is wearable video cameras and i'd like to know what would it take to make it mandatory.

Answer
It would take a history of use showing what the actual effect of law dogs wearing body cams prove.

Wearing a Badge, and a Video Camera
THE Rialto study began in February 2012 and will run until this July. The results from the first 12 months are striking. Even with only half of the 54 uniformed patrol officers wearing cameras at any given time, the department over all had an 88 percent decline in the number of complaints filed against officers, compared with the 12 months before the study, to 3 from 24.
Rialtoâs police officers also used force nearly 60 percent less often â in 25 instances, compared with 61. When force was used, it was twice as likely to have been applied by the officers who werenât wearing cameras during that shift, the study found.
http://www.nytimes.com/2013/04/07/business/wearable-video-cameras-for-police-officers.html?pagewanted=all&_r=5&

Rialto, CA Police Made to Wear Cameras, Use of Force Drops by Over Two-Thirds

When cops in a Rialto, California were forced to wear cameras, their use of force dropped by over two-thirds. Additionally, the officers who were not made to wear the cameras used force twice as much as those who did. This strongly suggests the majority of the time police use force is unnecessary. In other words, the majority of the time these officers used force they were simply committing acts of violence which they don't feel comfortable committing if it's captured on film.
He said he reminded them that civilians could use their cellphones to record interactions, "so instead of relying on somebody else's partial picture of what occurred, why not have your own?" he asked. "In this way, you have the real one."

Police love to say if you're not doing anything wrong, what do you have to hide, yet all over the nation police unions virulently fight calls to force them to wear cameras.

Fact is, most cops have everything and more to hide.

Their job is to enforce criminally idiotic and anti-human laws written by criminal politicians, from the drug laws to thousands of idiotic regulations on the books, their job is no longer to arrest violent criminals and thieves but to aggress against non-violent, non-criminals -- which turns them into criminals themselves.
http://www.informationliberation.com/?id=44427

Hhmmm seems to have a time termed effect, that being the use of force drops when the dog knows his action are provable. It seems to show that John Q walking into a dog house and complaining about bad doggy behaviors get dropped when John Q is shown the body cam recorded view. But dogs are wary, why? Because like their own concern for personal safety during their shifts, they are concerned with their own privacy from their superiors of what their doing while on the job. so basically the dogs don't want the public to know how they act and they don't want the big dogs to know how they feel, personally.

Officers fear body cameras raise privacy concerns
The lack of clear guidelines on the cameras' use could potentially undermine departments' goals of creating greater accountability of officers
And some rank-and-file officers are worried the technology might ultimately be used to derail their careers if, for example, an errant comment about a superior is captured on tape.
They say, however, that the lack of clear guidelines on the cameras' use could potentially undermine departments' goals of creating greater accountability of officers and jeopardize the privacy of both the public and law enforcement officers.
Equipping police with cameras isn't a new concept. For decades police have used cameras mounted to the dashboards of their patrol cars â initially referred to with suspicion by officers as "indict-o-cams" until they discovered the footage exonerated them in most cases.

Answer
I have a Kodak Digital Camera. It plays movies on it, it records video, you can delete, add, copy, watch the pictures you took on the tv or on the computer.
You can download pictures from your computer on it (It comes with a usb),
I have had mine for awhile now.
I love it. Oh yeah and it has 10x zoom (just think how far you can take a picture with 10x zoom (It is like looking through binoculars at 10x) NEAT oh.
I got my Digital Camera for $200.00 (around Christmas time at Best Buy) Other places my husband and I checked had the same camera going for between $300-500.00 CDN.

What is it called?
Kodak: EasyShare Z740

The lens? 38-380 mm AF 10x Optimizer
It has the lens Adapter that comes with it:
45.5mm to 55 mm

It has a timer
You can put the stand on it
You can take photos with flowers, different scenes,
Red eye reduction.
Have Favourites.
Use flash or no flash (at a click of a button)
zoom in or out.
Look through the eye hole for detailed pictures.
Or use the LCD screen
You can share your photos online with your friends.

It has: PASM: for Manual Camera Settings
Party Scene: Use of photos for people of indoor settings.
Auto: use for general picture taking
Sport: Use for when people are in Motion.
Portrait: Use for full frame photos of people and other subjects.
Night: use at night to capture to both subject and background.
**Note: at a touch of a light tap of a button you can focus an image (a green light shows when it is focussing for you)

Let me know if you want to see pictures that I took or you can visit my website.
I like it alot.

taylorg939

this would be my 5th camera due to either breaking it or hating it.
i like taking pictures but i love making movies even more so i want something that's good with both.

-thanks

Answer
While most cameras take video, and some camcorders take photos; to get the best of both, you need both. Have not seen a camera that compares with the video from a camcorder and camcorders can't take good quality photos. Suggest the least expensive Canon Camcorder and the Canon A590IS camera.
http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=ModelInfoAct&fcategoryid=174&modelid=16172#ModelFeaturesAct ...

What gives a camera its picture quality?
It is mostly the skill of the photographer that produces high quality pictures. The lens and camera are very important, but the ability to set the scene, adjust the cameras settings, and hold the camera very still or use a tripod with auto or remote shutter actuation when required is what gets the great pictures. Mega pixel resolution is about potential photo size, not picture quality.

In new cameras, look for a viewfinder (LCD invisible in bright sun), optical image stabilizer, and check battery prices. High mega pixel settings take longer to process and may not be needed unless required for very large pictures. Maximum print size for a 3 mega pixel setting is 8 x 10 inches. Click links below for more details.
http://www.kodak.com/eknec/PageQuerier.jhtml?pq-path=398&pq-locale=en_US&_requestid=2039 ...
http://www.kenrockwell.com/tech/mpmyth.htm ...

The Canon A590IS is a slightly older model that is available everywhere at great sale prices. Think it is a great camera and a best buy. It has auto focus, a viewfinder, optical image stabilization, and uses rechargeable NiMH batteries.
http://www.imaging-resource.com/PRODS/A590IS/A590ISA.HTM ...
http://bountii.com/deal-1523871-canon-powershot-8-0-megapixel.html ...

For expanded wide angle or telephoto capabilities, the A590 IS is compatible with Canon's accessory lens adapters: A small button next to the lens bezel is actually a latch; press it and you can remove the bezel ring, exposing a bayonet mount for accessory lenses. Canon offers the WC-DC52 0.7x wide-angle lens, the TC-DC52A telephoto lens, the 250D 52mm closeup lens separately, along with the LA-DC52G adapter to mount them on the camera. (Note that the wide, tele, and macro lenses all need the LA-DC52G adapter to mount them to the camera. The lenses won't work by themselves.)

There is no one particular place to get great buys, but you may see something above that really helps you find the best buy. Click on the second link in the information above for an example then search for your camera of choice at the upper left. Camera prices at this link change often.

This could be the best slim line camera with a viewfinder and ... It's PINK, but it uses a $49.50 Series G Rechargeable 960mAh lithium-ion battery.
http://shopping.yahoo.com/p:Sony%20Cyber-shot%20DSC-W150%2FR%20Digital%20Camera:1995337750;_ylc=X3oDMTB0bjZzaWNuBF9TAzk2NjMyOTA3BHNlYwNmZWVkBHNsawNlbGVj ...
http://www.digitalcamerareview.com/default.asp?newsID=3462&review=sony+cybershot+w150 ...

There are so many cameras out there it is difficult to say which is best. The second source link will be very helpful as it list most of the cameras out there with prices. The following information should help you know what to look for in a camera.

CAUTION Do not overcharge! Batteries can be damaged. Use an automatic two or more hour Energizer Compact smart charger with temperature monitor, trickle charge technology, and safety timer ($9.76) at Walmart. Use pre-charged 2000mAh Duracell ($12.97) or RayOVac ($5.97) batteries (both hold charge one year) and a full cycle charge. To preserve battery charge, use the viewfinder.

CAUTION To prevent memory card corruption, keep batteries charged and don't delete. Wait for lights to stop flashing then turn camera off before removing memory. For card readers, double click Safely Remove Hardware. Select, then click Stop and OK.

Lots of great camera tips in this link.
http://www.danscamera.com/Learning/going_digital/#resolution ...

My camera has 5.2 mega pixel, but I use 3 most of the time because it gives great results, is faster, and takes less memory. Also, it only has a 3 x optical zoom and 7 x digital zoom. I never use the digital zoom because making pictures larger works better on the computer. This is an old camera, but everyone is impressed with the quality pictures it takes ... like magic.

Check with the Geeks in several stores and compare prices. Once you select a camera, read all about it in the owner's manual. You can view owners manuals at this link, but will need to Login. http://www.retrevo.com/s/digital+camera ...

The source links show most of the cameras out there with prices and make digital cameras work better with help on cleaning camera and battery electrical contacts.

Can there be cameras at lady Gaga's 2/22/2013 concert?

Richard Sa

Ok guys I have a problem I have gotten addicted to Lady Gaga and everyone says serves amazing live. So I got tickets to her concert at Madison square garden in New York City on 2/22/2013 and it says "no video/recorder" i don't know why they put that because I have gone to a katy perry concert a d a z100 jingle ball concert in 2011 and brought my camera with no problem. And tho suckss!! Because I cannot wait to get some footage of Lady Gaga's amazing performance. So any advice would be greatly appreciated thanks alot people!! :D

Answer
In general, most big name concerts won't allow you to go in with a hand held video recorder or the big professional camera. And they would not allow to use flash photography.
They won't take your phone away, nor are they likely to search you for a compact camera. If you have these you can use to record or photograph. These are not technically "video recorders".

Video editing camcorder?

Q. I need to buy a new camcorder for some video editing. Problem is that the only computer I have is windows XP and the only software I have is windows movie maker. Anybody know which camera I should get that would work best with my software?
It's for work. Can't go with MiniDV.

Answer
Flip UltraHD Video Camera is a powerful, easy-to-use, fairly cheap video camera; it records @ 1280 x 720, 60 FPS, and can hold about two full hours of video at that capacity. It fits neatly in a shirt pocket and is pretty much ideal for recording anything that doesn't need to be professionally produced film, from home movies to recording interviews. It comes packaged with a basic editing program that's designed to make it as easy as possible to produce basic home movies and post them to the web.

Funny Youtube video ideas?

c_star

I wanna start making videos for my channel, but I don't have any idea what to do. I want it to be funny though,I don't mind vlogging, or just doing something random. Thanks for any ideas :)

Answer
here are some unique and silly ideas.. that can be funny

1. Time lapse video
Time lapse videos are easy to make â you keep your camera mounted on a place (a street corner or at your office) and start recording. After certain duration, stop recording and bring to the editing room. In your favorite video editing software, fast-forward the video to at least 100 times fast. Then add a background score, that's it.

2. Interviewing someone
Prepare 10 questions to interview someone (if the person is a girl, you will get lot of views), and do a timed 1-minute interview. You can make the questions such that the respondent can answer with just a âYesâ or âNoâ. Or ask a question to many people, say, âWho would you like to see as the next president of USA?â â ask people answer this question with videos (video replies).

3. Provide your own tips
Start recording your camera and go in front and give some tips to the world. Yes, you can provide funny tips on a specific area of your expertise. Choose a wild topic such as, â10 ways to save yourself when a hungry Rhinoceros chases youâ, âThings to do when you are stuck in 10,000 BCâ, â10 things that you want to know about Australiaâ or âTips for organizing a bachelor partyâ. Be creative and think of some wild topic, it should inspire your viewers to post replies and comments.

4. Playing with texts
Use MS powerpoint slides to make compelling statements. Print them and show them in front of the camera and remove one page at a time (give enough time to readers to read the print), end with a final punch line. Add background music to the video and upload it.

5. Screen capture your Desktop activities
Install good screen capture software, first. Start the screen capture software to record any screen activities you do on your PC. Paint a drawing or doodle in Photoshop. Or just simply browse as you normally do. Or just type something â a letter, or a blog post. Stop the screen capture recording, edit the movie (use fast-forward technique) and add some peppy music as the background score. Thatâs it you have made a very cool movie for Youtube.

6. Make an Advert
Shoot an advert or a television commercial for McDonald's, KFC or for the poor Microsoft. Write your own script, draw a storyboard â use existing videos and your own voice and music. When you are making and advert on a well-known global brand, you are bound to get lot of viewers (and criticisms). Who knows, the MN Cs would make a way to your door to sign you up (ok, I was kidding!).

7. Dub for someone
Get some videos where political leaders make a speech or famous celebrity giving an interview to someone. Now, strip off the celebrity speakerâs voice (use volume mute in your video editing software) and add your own voice and a funny one-line. Mix different questions and use some funny one-liners from stripped from old James Bond movies.

Deion

I have a car that ive put a good bit of money into that I will start driving soon. A lot of kids at my school (almost any public place actually) have no respect at all for other peoples things and people often get their cars keyed or damaged etc. That being said, is their any type of video surveillance system I can install into my car so I can catch the person who did it if it were to happen?

Answer
In order for video to be effective, the subject needs to be visible to the camera(s). This means the cameras would need to be mounted on your car to be able to see the sides of the car and have a wide enough view to see the person causing the damage. Along with this, the cameras and recording device need power to run so you risk having no battery to start the vehicle if parked for a while... or keep the power system separate.

It might as easy as using a consumer-grade, multi-camera surveillance system using small cameras like http://www.amazon.com/VideoSecu-Security-Weatherproof-Surveillance-1CN/dp/B000TBG8BU
or smaller and connected to a digital video recorder mounted in the trunk...

Record video at the airport allowed?

theent1

I'm going to be travelling next week and my flight is stopping by various airports before it reaches my destination (Washington, DC and Dallas, TX). Is airport security going to bother me if I take some video footage?

Answer
They probably won't bother you. Families take videos of their kids at the airport all the time. They may keep an eye on you though since there have been cases where people use video cameras to record people doing things like typing phone card numbers on a telephone keypad.

Having been in so many airports, I can't imagine what you would find interesting enough to videotape.

BEST PROFESSIONAL HD VIDEO CAMERA FOR RECORDING INDOOR CONCERTS/PERFORMANCES (UNDER $1300)?

Maranata

Hello everyone!

I am completely inexperienced about video cameras. Could someone recommend the best professional HD video camera for recording INDOOR (guitar/string quartet/piano/some percussion) concerts and dance/drama performances, which usually have low light. I would prefer a shoulder-mount model. My budget is only $1300.

Thanks in advance!

Answer
My definition of a "professional" HD video camera:
Lens diameter of 70mm or larger;
3CCD or 3CMOS imaging chip array.
Low compression video capture and storage.
When you find this, you get:
Separate zoom and focus rings on the lens barrel;
Manual audio gain control on the outside of the camcorder;
Neutral density filter setting on the outside of the camcorder...
At the low end are "prosumer" units like the Sony HDR-FX1000.

Low end camcorders have small lens and small imaging chip - this makes it impossible to capture good video under poor lighting conditions. Manual controls are buried in the menu and difficult to use/reach (your iPad has no manual controls). As the lens diameter gets larger and the imaging chip size increases, the low-light and poor light video capture behavior gets better and so does the price. As the manual controls migrate to the outside of the camcorder, more price increases - and add a mic jack an manual audio control...

dSLRs and other still image capture devices that happen to capture video as a secondary "convenience feature" should not be used as camcorders. This does not mean they cannot capture good video - they can, but they can't be treated as a camcorder. dSLRs have known issues related to overheating when capturing video over a prolonged time; poor audio options, file size and video length limitations. Generally, dSLRs do not have "stabilization" for video (even when the lens has stabilization).

Best video is captured under perfect lighting and best audio levels using low compression. That is not reality. That means we need to use equipment that works under as many adverse circumstances as possible.

Use of some sort of stabilizer (other than the camcorder's optical stabilizer) is strongly recommended. Humans are not built to be steady. Use of the ground, a rock, chair, shelf, monopod, shoulder-mount - anything but handheld... If you are capturing video handheld - with a camcorder, dSLR or other video capture device, expect poor quality.

Audio: The built-in mic works well with any camcorder when the audio is at an appropriate level and located in the right place. When this happens, the video framing may not be good. When the video framing is good, then the audio may not be set up correctly. The resolution to this is to use an external mic or audio recorder. This way the audio and the video are not physically depending on each other. Even if you don't choose to use an external mic or audio recorder, it is much better to have the mic jack and manual audio control (in a camcorder) when you want it - rather than want it and not have it.

I would suggest you look into the Canon Legria HF S series. Decent lens diameter and imaging chip size for the price, external mic jack and manual audio gain control. Please do not compare their video quality to a $4,000 camcorder - especially under poor/indoor lighting conditions. The lesn diameter is only 58mm and single imaging chip is 1/3".

Tips:
Use a tripod or other steadying device.
On a camcorder, use the white balance.
Use an external stereo mic (Audio Technica has a decent, affordable ones) or audio recorder (like a Zoom H2) when recording music - the stereo separation is much better than mono audio.
Use the manual audio gain control.
Capture video under good lighting.
Use the White balance settings.
Capture video at highest quality.

The shoulder mount cams in your price range have small 37mm lens diameter. The Canon HF S series on a shoulder mount system will be much better. And when you go with the HF S series cam, that leaves you budget for the other stuff.

And we don't know if your computer needs to be upgraded to deal with the AVCHD compressed video.

What angle should my camera record my piano playing?

Rally Car

I want to record myself playing piano, I already got the sound taken care of... but

How should I video record myself? Just showing my hands? Or all of me? I don't know. I've looked at other YouTubers and can't find any "successful" position.

Thanks
I want to upload videos to YouTube to share @Iridflare

Answer
If your going for a single angle that will be nice an simple to edit, I'd say directly from above. Presuming you have a small light point and shoot camera, you could use a light stand or mic stand to suspend it squarely above you while you play. Try framing it so that it shows your hands on the keyboard, with the full keyboard stretching left to right of the screen. The shape of the screen means you should be able to fit yourself on the edge of the frame. You could get creative and place a mirror on the piano tilted so that the camera can see a reflection of your face as you're playing.

The other option if you only have one camera is to fake a multi-cam shoot. This is more complicated and requires you to be capable of using a semi-professional non-linear editing programme. First record an angle showing a close up of your hands with audio, but before you start to play, with the audio recording clap or play a quick sharp beat. Then take the audio from that and play it through loud speaker whilst you record from different angles. Try to keep your playing in time with the first recording, and make sure your camera captures the clap/beat at the start of the recording as it plays through the speakers. You can then take all the different angles and line up the first clap. This will put all your shots in time. Strip all the audio except the original and then go through the timeline and chose what angle you will use for every part of the music. Some editing programmes like Premiere Pro or Final Cut include a multi-cam mixer, which makes life a lot easier!

Hope this helps, if you need anything else pop me an email.

Best wishes,
Brice
