What video camera from Best buy under 300$ that will record good quality of a garage band and guitar playing?
Or if there is a better one at wal-mart/circuit city/ whatever that has good sound quality for recording loud guitar distortion noises/garage band practices that is under or near 300$, please post it here

thanks!

Answer
Your problem will be the sound, not the video. Any camcorder at the lower end of the market is easily overwhelmed by volume levels of the sort you encounter at a gig or rehearsal. Find one that has a seperate audio input (preferably stereo) and run a line out of the desk. Failing that use an external mike and attenuate the signal before it hits the camera.

How can we upload a video from our video camera onto facebook?

lovedance4

Hello. My mom wants to upload a video of me playing guitar onto facebook. We have one of those video cameras where you record everything onto a DVD. I was wondering how we would go about turning it into a file, so that we would be about to upload it onto facebook. Several answers would be greatly appreciated. We are slightly (ok, a lot!) technologically impaired, lol. Thanks in advance!

Answer
You would need to use a DVD ripper program like DVD Decrypter. One of my boy-buddies uses VideoStudio by Corel. which has more features than just ripping. You put the mini-disc into the DVD tray of your computer making sure it sits centrally in the little depression made for it. You will have to 'finalize' the mini DVD so that your computer can read the disc - your camera manual will tell you how to do that.

Inside VideoStudio you select "Insert DVD/DVD-VR" and point the program at the DVD and follow the prompts and the video is copied from the disc into the time-line of VideoStudio so that you can edit it - add lots of different videos together cut out bits you don't want - add titles/music/narration - Then you can then output the project to a mpeg file and post it on FB.

We have a Sony digital video camera that records on a small magnetic tape. When we watch recordings of our kids sports events, you can pause the recording and the still image on the TV is fantastic! Is there a way to turn these still images into photographs that can be developed at the drug store? I haven't tried taking a picture of the TV screen yet, we're looking for something a little higher tech.

Answer
Most editing programs will let you do a screen capture. This would be done on the computer.

how to you view a video you have recorded with the discovery kids digital camera/video camera?

we bought our daughter a used discovery kids digital camera/video camera. i can take video with it but i do not know how to watch the video after i take it. the camera did not come with a manual and i can't find it on line.

Answer
It seems that you use a USB cable to connect it to a computer and download the videos/photos that way.

From photos I can't tell what the button next to the USB socket says. Is it Mode? I'd guess that may switch between taking photos/videos and replaying them.

Sony a55 vs Nikon d3100?

best dslr camera for video recording 2011 image

Matthew

I don't know anything about cameras. I'm looking for something under 1000$. Plain and simple. Which one is better?
Ok I shouldn't have said I don't know anything about cameras. I have some knowledge of dslr cameras and am not interested in buying a point and shoot.

Answer
Hi,

Both Sony a55 and the Nikon d3100 are DSLRs and for people with some knowledge about photography. I am not saying that you cannot operate the camera... you can definitely!!!

If you are willing to spend $1000 and wanting some interest to learn photography you should think of the Sony a55 as this camera is of the newest technology with a translucent mirror tech APS-C type CMOS sensor, 16.2MP (mega pixel), 10fps (frames per second) shooting mode, panorama (you will love this), Full HD video recording (never need a video camera) and a host of other features. You can always start to learn from scratch.

Nikon d3100 - small sensor (bigger the better), 14.2 MP (bigger the better), 3fps shooting mode (bigger the better) and other specific Nikon features.

But if you do not want a DSLR then you can buy a simple point-and-shoot camera which would fulfill your requirements. Sony is the leader in P&S cameras. Some of them you may try are Sony DSC-W570 or the latest DSC-HX100v 30x zoom 16.2 MP (to be launched in May 2011).

---------------------------------------------------- Updated --------------------------------------------

@Jens ------ in reply to -------

Just wanted to say that what I mentioned above is after reading the accurate specs from the respective websites of the 2 companies.

The Sony a55 sensor size is 23.5 x 15.6mm (APS-C SENSOR) (Bigger Sensor)
The Nikon d3100 sensor size is 23.1 x 15.4 mm (DX FORMAT also known as APS-C Sensor. Nikon uses its own term as "DX Format") (Smaller Sensor)

The more MP (in bigger sensor) the higher the crop factor you get in photos.

Bridge Camera vs. dSLR?

12345

I am deciding on whether to get the Panasonic DMC-FZ150 Bridge Camera or a budget entry-level dSLR. I'm more inclined to get the FZ150 because. while it doesn't have a huge enough sensor to be an SLR, it certainly is on a whole different level than a point and shoot camera (it has full control over PSAM, iso, and manual focus.) While an SLR would of course have these same (or better) options of manual control, what the FZ150 has over the SLR is it can shoot up to 60 pictures in one second at 5MP in its fastest burst shooting (which would be very helpful for shooting fast-paced action.) It also has the 24x zoom (expandable to 50x with a drop in resolution, while preserving quality.) This is something you can not have on an SLR unless you pay $9,000+ on a 600mm lens. Also, it can record 1080p video at 60 frames per second (in addition to a 220fps mode at QVGA res), which would be very hard to find on a budget SLR. On the other hand, an SLR would take better quality pictures in low light due to its larger sensor. However, I currently use my phone with it's tiny sensor as my primary camera and I can take amazingly sharp and professional-looking pictures with it (posted down below), so I can just imagine what I can do with something like a bridge camera with a relatively larger sensor. Like the saying goes, "it's not the camera, but the person who is holding it."
Tell me what you think. Do you think a bridge camera would be able to take good-looking pictures comparable to an SLR (in bright light)?

I was wondering if the camera and video recording was good quality. Also if its worth getting it. And also about the face chat.

Thanks

It's decent. It's not like the best thing on the market but itll do if you just want to take pictures or video in the light. FaceTime is awesome, it's very smooth and now you can even facetime chat with people who own macs

which is more telling, a mirror, a camera or a video recording ?

I've seen all three of myself, in the mirror, on camera and on a video recording. I find myself to be the best looking in a mirror. I can handle the way I look in the mirror, but especially in pictures
I think I look ugly. So which more telling, the camera or the mirror or the video recording ?

Answer
Actually, your image in the mirror is seen in reverse. That is the way you see yourself most often and the way you think you look. The still photo or video is the way you do look. The video recording contains the most information and would be the most telling.

I want a good quality compact digital camera with HD video recording. I'd prefer if it was on the cheaper side! I'm probably asking for too much, but if there is a cheap camera out there that matches my criteria, can you please suggest it? Thanks!

Answer
Hopefully, the $200 price range is on the cheaper side. If that's the case, then the Canon Powershot SD1400 fits your criteria. It can record movies in HD (720p is the maximum resolution). The rest of the specs are here:

http://www.usa.canon.com/cusa/consumer/products/cameras/digital_cameras/powershot_sd1400_is

The Nikon Coolpix S5100 is also something you should look into. It records movies in 720p as well, and it's slightly less expensive than the Canon at about $150.

I am planning on making a Recruiting video to get into college for football...My Stepdad will be recording the games but we need a Camcorder...

We need one with HD quality to film games that are at night, "Under the Lights"

Were looking at the $300-$600 range

Any advice/tips would be appreciated

THANKS!!!!

Answer
Low compression video capture/storage. In your price range, this means NOTHING that records to flash memory or hard disc drive - because they use very high compression AVCHD. This also means you are limited to miniDV tape (because the external memory recorder modules for HDV are about 2x your budget) and the ONLY camcorder - new - that comes close is the Canon HV40. Be sure to use a decent tripod. Also, be sure to learn to use the white balance so the view of being "under the lights" is not too bad.

HD Camcorders and DSLR Cameras interpolate the video, which means of every 25 frames of video, 4 or 5 frames are taken by the lens assembly; the other frames in between these are filled in by the camcorder inner circuitry, thus giving you not true video. No event I have ever been to is that short. Either take multiple camcorders and DSLR Cameras or pack up with out getting the end of the event on video.

MiniDV is currently the most popular format for consumer digital camcorders. MiniDV camcorders are typically more affordable than their HDD and DVD counterparts. Each MiniDV tape will typically hold an hour of footage at normal recording speed and quality. MiniDV tapes are available for purchase at not only electronic and camera stores, but also at drugs stores and grocery stores, making them easy to find while your on vacation. There are literally hundreds of MiniDV camcorders available; both in standard and high-definition. And add the fact that to get a HD camcorder that could produce better video quality footage, one would have to spend in excess of $3500 for that camcorder that could produce higher quality video

Best choice point and shoot ($300-$450)?

Rachel Cro

I am looking for a good camera for indoor pictures. I have 3 little kids and take a million shots indoors, but the little $100 camera I have doesn't take decent pictures. I've looked into it a bit and have found a few with good reviews and decent picture quality. The few I've looked into:

Olympus TG-1iHS 12 MP Waterproof Digital Camera with 4x Optical Zoom
Sony Cyber-shot DSC-HX30V 18.2 MP Exmor R CMOS Digital Camera with 20x Optical Zoom and 3.0-inch LCD (Black) (2012 Model)
Nikon COOLPIX P310 16.1 MP CMOS Digital Camera with 4.2x Zoom NIKKOR Glass Lens and Full HD 1080p Video
Nikon COOLPIX L810 16.1 MP Digital Camera with 26x Zoom NIKKOR ED Glass Lens and 3-inch LCD (Red)
Fujifilm XF1/Blk 12MP Digital Camera with 3-Inch LCD (Black)
Olympus XZ-1 10 MP Digital Camera with f1.8 Lens and 3-Inch OLED Monitor (Black)
Canon PowerShot SX260 HS 12.1 MP CMOS Digital Camera with 20x Image Stabilized Zoom 25mm Wide-Angle Lens and 1080p Full-HD Video (Black)
Panasonic DMC-FZ150K 12.1 MP Digital Camera with CMOS Sensor and 24x Optical Zoom (Black)
Nikon COOLPIX P510 16.1 MP CMOS Digital Camera with 42x Zoom NIKKOR ED Glass Lens and GPS Record Location (Black)

I was wondering if anyone had one of these or a decent knowledge of them and could advise me on which would be best for what I'm looking for. Or another suggestion of a camera that takes good indoor pictures. I work a lot in low light and with fast kids. I'm not expecting a miracle - point and shoot cameras can only do so much, but... Any help would be appreciated!

Answer
None of the above.

http://thewirecutter.com/reviews/the-best-compact-camera-for-less-than-450-is-the-panasonic-lx7/

I have the LX3 and I love it. I also have an older and current generation dSLR and a bunch of high quality lenses. If you are mainly shooting the kids indoors, you want to have a fast lens (that relates to aperture, not autofocus) and you want something that is meant for wide to slight zooms, so you don't need the 20x zooms. Also, with most of these cameras, the small sensor size means that chasing megapixels is fool's gold. Plus, how big are you going to print something?

The Panasonic has a great lens, lets you work in lower light than most of the competitors, and takes great photos. It is pretty much the same camera as the D-LUX line which is easily twice as expensive, with a little different case design and some slight changes to the software.

We are currently preparing for the birth of our first child and plan on using a video camera. What cameras would you recommend on purchasing?

Answer
The Panasonic HDC-SD9 might be what you're looking for!

It's very compact, fits into your jeans' pocket, records in full hd (1920*1080), records 5.1 surround sound, 3 CCD! etc.

It's cheap and a really good buddy. I have one and I prefer it over the Sony PMW-EX1 when I am traveling or taking home videos.

The low-light performs is fair. You can set some settings manually such as the white balance, shutter and iris.

I hope I could help you and wish you the best!!

How do I compress or make a file of a family movie smaller to be used to attach and send through email?

Q. I have a small videos of my children that I took with my kodak easy share digital camera, one is 38 seconds and the other is 45 seconds long. My mom lives in another country and I haven't seen her in seven years and she had moved away before I met and married my husband and had babies (now 3yr old and 1yr old). Because she has never seen my babies I'm always emailing pics that I took with my new kodak easy share camera...I noticed just a few days ago that I could also record my children on it like a video camera but with no sound. I tried emailing them as attachments but on both my yahoo and msn emails, they only attach a max. of 10 mb and even though these are small videos they are like 11 - 13 mb so I'm wondering if there is a way to make them smaller, please, so that my mom can see her grandbabies for the first time moving around playing, instead of being still in a picture.

Answer
I think you can right click the folder then compress into a zip or rar file....the other person has to have the proper program to run it though. I may be wrong on this though....

Near impossible to edit, even when you have the Multi port processor computer with the big 1GB Graphics card and a Sound card that is required to edit, view, watch and work with the files these camcorders produce.

DSLR Cameras, all Makes, all Models, all have the same problem when video taping some long videos, all overheat at the 13 to 18 minute mark, depending on the Make and Model. This is unavoidable, it all has to with the fact, video is an afterthought in DSLR camera production.

Consumer Level HD Camcorders and DSLR Cameras have 4 problems. 1) Blurry, fuzzy, out of focus areas closely around people in videos taken by consumer level HD camcorders. 2) Any movement, even a wave or lifting an arm, while in front of a recording Consumer Level HD Camcorder and DSLR Cameras, results in screen ghosts and artifacts being left on the video track, following the movement. Makes for bad video, sports videos are unwatchable. 3) These Consumer Level HD Camcorders and DSLR Cameras all have a habit of the transferred to computer files are something you need to convert, thus losing your HD quality, to work with your editing software. 4) Mandatory maximum record times - 1 hour, 30 minutes, 8 minutes, 3 minutes – four different times advertised as maximum record time for some Consumer Level HD Camcorders and DSLR Cameras.

My bf plays for a band and I record with my kodak zd15. The sound sucks really bad. I need a nice camera that video records and has good audio for live band performance. I looked into the Mino HD 8GB Flip, I really liked the upload your own photo thing but it has a lot of downs.
Is the cannon sd1000 a better choice?
I need help.

Answer
Consumer-grade camcorders don’t record audio very well especially music. Most have omni-directional microphones that tend to pick up all sound around the cam, like sound bouncing off walls, etc. And some are not even stereo mics. If your Kodak ZD15 is okay with the video imagery, then use a separate audio recorder which is the best way to record for music video projects. You did not state your budget but something like a Zoom H1 digital recorder ($99.00) and used with a quality microphone is the cheapest option. But better yet, something like the Zoom H4n or Tascam DR100 (both around $290.00). They can use two mics (and the two on-board mics) and the ability to balance up to 4 channels. The important part is the microphone and for a way to adjust the gain, as music will peak and fall throughout the performance, and each instrument has its own unique sound waves. Using ear-muff style headphones will allow you to listen more accurately what the mic(s) is picking up. You may be able to rent a recorder and try it out to see if it will work for you. Check with your local music instrument stores. If you still are leaning towards another camcorder, just make sure it has an external microphone port and headphone port.

What Digital Cameras Can Allow Zooming During Video Recording?

Ace U

I go to a lot of concerts and record them on camera. I was wondering which cameras allow zooming during video recording. I'm looking for something not too expensive. $300-400 max price. Thanks.

Answer
I have a Samsung L200 and it's great. 10 megapixels, zooming while video and its only 200.

If you're doing a lot of video, invest the money for the Canon HG20. $600 from amazon.com, i have one, trust me, its the way to go.

After watching multiple youtube videos on how to record video games from a camera, I've found one common issue with my camera. I need to fin the av output or input settings. It is possible that the camera itself has no such setting. If so, tell me so I can just give up already.

Answer
You cannot use your camcorder as a recorder from the AV jacks. You can only record from the lens. To do what most gamers do, get a DVR, hook your game machine that and that to the TV. Record game play, then transfer file from DVR to computer. Use your camcorder, mounted on a tripod to cover your game playing grunts and groans, the do a PIP effect, putting you in the corner of the video. Windows Movie Maker cannot do PIP

What video camera has the best sound recording capability?

best video camera for recording piano

best video camera for recording piano image

Ross

I'm looking for a video camera to record some videos of myself playing the piano. I honestly care more about sound quality than picture quality, yes, I would like to have a very good quality video, but sound is more important in this case. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Answer
If you can swing it, take the audio feed from microphones into your computer's hard drive and take the video feed from the camera into the computer's hard drive and record them simultaneously into an appropriate program. Most modern camcorders have CD quality sound now but you could get even better quality sound if you do it this way because it allows you to use superior microphones, external equalizers, and other sound processing gear to get your sound. This is how the professionals do it and there is a reason for that. Good luck to you!

What percentage of people do you think use electronic devices without ever changing default values?

I will bet that over 90% of the people with digital cameras, video cameras, and even cell phones have no idea on how to change any settings. I had a friend who thought his video camera was broken because it would not keep recording when he took his finger off the button. One of his children had changed the setting. How many people with 8 mega pixel cameras leave it at the highest setting and only view pictures on their computer. How many people with satellite tv scan through every channel in the directory because they have no idea you can set favorites. I can go on forever.

Answer
80-90% easy. If i had the time, I'd find you a bunch of articles and research that I have read recently about this phenomenon..

basically, when a company is looking to improve a product, they go about surveying and testing what their consumers "want" in a product..

not in context, on a piece of paper.. of course you're going to say, "yeah I want the ability to start my washing machine and defrost my car from my video camera." In practice, of course, no one would ever use such features.. the end result is a junked up consumer interface full of stuff that (while functional) serves little purpose to the common consumer outside of showing off gadgets to your neighbor, good reviews in consumer reports, and bells and whistles for salespeople.

I want something used at a reasonable price that can actually tolerate some motion and has sufficient audio quality to record live music. What's the best used video camera? Is digital really better than tape, given what I'm looking for?

Answer
get the SVP t-100 or the t-500 , or any of the t series for that matter, they are a lot better quality than the analog , or dv technology , dvd was the next one , which still had the transfer and edit problems , and now we have hdd and SD and sdhc technology allowing us to record massive amounts of information with out loss in transfer to hard drive and transfers to computers , ease with editing , and quick and easy burning. what sort of video should you buy , this is a personal choice , if you had a SONY and you loved it get another one , or JVC have a look at the svp one , it is cheap and does all you need and have described.and is around $100US or $150AU

How can I put My Snapvine music on utube?

Look I don't have a video camera or anything to record my music...... I just want to know how to put my music on u tube. Please help me!

Answer
...How is this a joke or a riddle? ( >_>)

I don't think it's possible to put just music on Youtube without any sort of visual. One way to put your music on Youtube is to download software such as Camtasia, which will allow you to record videos and sound on your computer. Then put an image on your computer screen of something relevant to the song, such as a picture or lyrics, begin recording with Camtasia, and then play the song. ( ^_^ ) It should record the sound right from your computer; you don't need to worry about a microphone or anything.

Good luck!
