Can you dub a disc from a Hard Drive or Flash Card Camcorder?

Ronald

I need to recommend a new camera for my coach to use. He likes to dub the video from the camera to a DVD. I'm pretty sure he does this by hooking up the camera to the TV or DVD recorder and then playing back the video. Our current camera uses mini discs. Can a camera that uses a Hard Drive or Flash Cards do the same thing? And if so, what kind of ports does it need?

Answer
Hi Ronald:

The short answer to your Question is "yes": HDD and Flash Card video files can be copied to DVD for review & archiving.

The downside is that most consumer HDD and SD Card storage camcorders use high-compression of the video information (to save space), so individual frame detail is lost in the process. And for fast pans (following a football) and quick-action footage, compressed-video can have annoying "motion artifacts" where the frame-to-frame detail is "interpolated" (mathematically guessed-at).

These 2 types of camcorders typically use USB ports to connect to a computer for transfer & editing. MiniDV tape-based camcorders use lower-compression (more frame & pixel detail is stored), but transfers have to be in "real-time", so a 2-hour game takes 2-hours to transfer. MiniDV camcorders require a FireWire port on the computer or DVD recorder. Digital video files (from HDD and cards) can be just "dragged & dropped" to copy. The files are huge, so it still takes some time (especially over USB), but it's quicker than tape transfer.

I shoot a lot of "sports combine" review videos (like on Yahoo!Sports' Rivals.com), as well as live game action; and coaches & scouts almost exclusively want MiniDV-based footage because of the motion capture quality.

There are pro-level and "prosumer" (semi-pro) cameras & camcorders that use high-speed CF-cards and/or FireWire based external hard drives (FireWire is faster than USB) as well as tape storage. These typically run (new) in the $1500-$3000+ price range, but are ruggedly built (Sony HVR-Z1 thru Z7 series are a good example).

Having the option of "solid state" memory or HDD external storage gives you the speed of quick file transfers & editing for review. The TV pros call this "DTE" for Direct-To-Edit workflow.

If your coach has a lower budget (his mini-DVD camcorder was originally around $1000 or less, like the $1100 Sony HCR-DVD300), he'll need to make a compromise between frame-detail (especially when reviewing in slo-mo or still-frame) and price. Features to shop for include variable shutter-speed, Slo-Mo "burst" record mode (for things like gymnastics or golf-swings), and pre-record mode (actually captures the video just-before you hit Record, so you get all the action).

Feel free to update your Question with exactly what sport or sports your coach deals with, which can make a difference in feature choices, and what his price range is (which makes a big difference in model selection).

hope this helps,
--Dennis C.

I am beginning to teach golf, what are some of the better cameras to use to record swings?

Dylon S

I have a handful of clients, but am not yet making too much money, so my budget is kind of low. I was originally looking for a high speed camera (like the one CBS uses) but figured that was too much money. Also what are the things I should look into for the best quality of seeing the swings that are 100 MPH +.

Answer
Any decent digicam with video will work. I would suggest one that records video in AVI, or some flavor of AVI, instead of Quicktime. It's just easier to work with.

Get 2, one facing the front of the player, and one facing the direction the ball is being hit... catch both at once,

You'll also need something to hold the camera, a tripod of some sort. No more than your average Canon pocket camera weighs, the $25 Walmart tripods will work.

I am planning on getting a new phone with Verizon and I don't know what to get. The features I would like are a decent camera/video recorder, mp3 player, and maybe some other unique features. I am not going to use it for texting or internet browers because I can't afford an expensive bill every month, but I want something that is cool looking and has some nice built in features. If there is anything that fits this or is close to this please recommend something. Thank you.

Nokia 5800 xpress music users, this is for you. Do you think that I should buy 5800 or an iphone?

I mainly use my mobile as a camera, video recorder, music player and also for storing my data and I know that nokia 5800 xpress music is better than iphone for all these things. But I have also heard that 5800 hasn't got such graphics like iphone and also a little uncomfortable while typing anything, because you have to press the buttons a bit harder. Is it true? What should I buy?

Answer
yes that's true that Nokia 5800 has better camera, 3.2 MP, Music player, Surround Speakers, but it all depends on your budget........no, its mot really hard, you also have Stylus pen, if your not comfortable enough using your finger........

Canon Eos 600D (Rebel T3i) vs Sony Alpha SLT-A58?

Nabeel Ahm

I am a newbie in photography...This is going to be my first DSLR camera
I have these two choices-
Sony Alpha SLT-A58 and Canon EOS 600D (Rebel T3i)

I really dont know much about cameras so id like your opinion with pros and cons.

Also-
Assume there are two lenses
18-55mm and 50mm

What is the difference?
If we buy the 18-55 we can adjust it to 50mm which would give the same effect as 50mm so why buy another 50mm lense?
(I really dont know about lenses too so i might have said something stupid above ..Please clarify it for me)
Nick,
So Canon Eos600D vs Sony Alpha SLT-A58
Which would u choose and why?

Answer
Both are great cameras. Either one will make happy. They both have more features than most of us would need in day in day out photography. If you are able to get-over Canon syndrome, I would recommend buying A58 as it has better image quality, AF in video and overall better video recording abilities and is lighter and thinner. Sony normally gives better features such as in camera HDR, fast auto focus, panoramas.

With regard to lenses, one very important number is F. 50mm lenses are prime lenses and they are usually much faster, sharper than 18-55mm kit lenses. Also, they can be used in low lights and for great portraits compared to 18-55mm lenses. Being fixed at 50mm focus length, you can not zoom but at wide aperture they give excellent background blur which wills stand out. Sony has 50mm F1.8 lense for around $180 or you can buy a used one for around $100. I would strongly recommend you to buy that lens too. If you want to buy only one lens, I would tell you to buy a fast 50mm lens if you are shooting mostly indoor and mostly people or pets.
Here is a photo I took on Pentax k-01 with a 45 year old 50mm lens. My friend had a camera 3 times more expensive but it struggled to shoot in this light.

http://www.flickr.com/photos/12298420@N05/8446183616/

As other answerer has mentioned, Pentax makes great cameras. K30 and K01 have great image quality and are sold at very attractive value prices.

Read this article to get over which camera is better dilemma:

I'm looking for a small/compact digital camera (at least 8MP and 3x zoom) that can record very good video. (720p, if possible, but its pretty hard to get one). I really want to keep the price under 300 bucks, 200 if possible. I really like the Nikon S60, how well does it take video?

Answer
For under 300 I would recommend Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS3 10.1 MP with 12x Wide Angle MEGA Optical Image Stabilized Zoom and 3 inch LCD.It take good picture quality and also take HD video

or for 200, Canon PowerShot SD780IS12.1 MP with 3x Optical Image Stabilized Zoom and 2.5-inch LCD is a good choice.720p HD video.

What cheap camera to buy that has autofocus while you record?

Hey I would like a nice cheap compact digital camera that can autofocus while you record a video. Im not looking for any HD ones just a cheap normal one.

Answer
As a professional, I have to say that you should definitely go with Nikon, Canon, or Olympus, they have the best quality and performance.

If you want a good camera for under $100, I recommend this one. It has a great video feature.

Answer
There should be a pre-installed webcam program (e.g Cyberlink YouCam)

Even if there isn't one or you can't find it, download and use the simple Windows Live Movie Maker 2011.
Download link: http://explore.live.com/windows-live-movie-maker

Its free from Microsoft. Once installed, click on the webcam video button in the top row under the Home tab. It should show you the viewfinder. Start recording from there.

I need a digital video camera that I can just record with and upload via usb cable to my pc to video edit it. Something that I could make a small indie film with. Any Ideas?

Answer
i suggest a checklist of features -

budget dictates that you won't get HD for that price.

get something that has 3ccd.

for the price you should be able to have something in widescreen (16:9)

also, separate audio inputs would be necessary for decent recording. 3.5mm stereo jack good, xlr dual mic better.

mini dv format. you may be tempted to get HDD, flash or DVD but dv is still better (by far). why?

better archiving, cheap alternative, much better resolution compared to all other formats.

the others are ok if you HAVE to but steer clear of dvd. it ain't worth it.

thats the list. find the one that fits all of that for as close to $500.

also, invest in firewire card for your PC. usb 2.0 is not good enough for larger takes. firewire will do a whole 90 mins in real time with no dropouts (as long as you follow the recording rules).

hope it helps. i can't strictly recomend specific cameras cos everyone has their preference. you should got onto a couple of forums and stores to check em out.

good luck! hope it helps!

i am going to get a camera soon and i don't know weather to get the Nikon D3100 or Sony a35. they both seem really good but i don't know which to choose. help plz :)

Answer
Nikon, of course, has been in the camera business a very long time. However, Sony isn't as much a newcomer to the camera market as some might have you think. Sony actually invented and sold the world's first non-film based camera - the Sony Mavica of 1981. No, it wasn't a digital camera. It recorded on a floppy disc which was then viewed on your TV. The Sony ProMavica MVC-5000 and MVC-7000 were actually SLR cameras with 3 interchangeable lenses. The MVC-7000 also had lens adapters to allow use of Nikon and Canon lenses. Sony also has a long history of designing and manufacturing cameras for broadcast TV and home video cameras.

Although the Sony SLT A35 is a very good DSLR, the new SLT A65 offers several refinements. It is, however more expensive. The main claim to fame for the SLT series of cameras is the use of Sony's Translucent Mirror Technology (TMT). This technology allows for full-time continuous phase-detect auto focus whether you're shooting still images or full 1080p HD video. The Nikon D3100 does allow for auto focus during video capture but its the slower, less precise contrast-detect auto focus.

TMT also allows you to shoot at 7fps (frames per second) with the A35 and 10fps with the A65. Both models also offer your choice of 2D or 3D Sweep Panorama.

When Sony bought the DSLR technology and manufacturing rights from Konica-Minolta in 2006 they did three smart things: They kept a focusing motor in the camera body, they kept Image Stabilization in the camera body and they kept the Minolta Maxxum "A" lens mount that dates back to 1985. What that means is you have access to a large selection of high quality previously owned Maxxum AF lenses that will auto focus on any Sony DSLR and also be, in effect, an Image Stabilized lens.

Nikon, on the other hand, chose to not put a focusing motor in the body of the D3100 and they also chose to put their version of IS (Nikon calls it VR) in some but not all of their lenses. With the D3100 if you want auto focus you must buy the more expensive AF-S lenses. An example: A Nikon AF 50mm f1.8 prime lens that will not auto focus on the D3100 is about $130.00. The Nikon AF-S 50mm f1.8 prime lens that will auto focus on the D3100 is about $220.00. In my world $90.00 isn't pocket change. Yes, you can use the Nikon AF lenses on the D3100 but only if you don't mind manually focusing them. So, with the D3100 you get to pay again and again for a focusing motor and over and over for IS/VR.

Nikon D5100 w/18-55mm zoom lens, $749.95 after a $100.00 Instant Savings from B&H. Ends 11-19-2011. Free USA shipping. NOTE: The D5100, like the D3100, Does NOT have a focusing motor in the camera body. It too requires the more expensive AF-S lenses.

In my opinion, between the Sony SLT A35 and the Nikon D3100 the SLT A35 offers more features and benefits and is the better choice. If you can stretch your budget and wait a few weeks the Sony SLT A65 would be well woth it.

please provide links so i can look into them. i much prefer ones recently released (2011)

Answer
Lovely question mate. Okay, for me, the best DSLR camera for video is definitely Canon 550D or Kiss X4 or T2i whatever they call it. I love it for its value for the money. It has all the right features I need to capture great videos. The grip is comfortable, it records progressive videos (interlaced video like old Sony Alpha cameras are a nightmare), great prime lens options, full manual control over the exposure and has ample resolution options and frame rates such as these:
- Full HD : 1920x1080p: 30/24 fps (NTSC), 25/24 fps (PAL)
- HD : 1280x720p (HD): 60 fps (NTSC), 50 fps (PAL)
- VGA : 640x480 (SD): 60 fps (NTSC), 50 fps (PAL)

Notice I said prime lenses? It means that the aperture size is constant along the focal length. Zoom lenses change their aperture value when zoomed in or out. The kit lens, 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6, is strange. Let's say you lock exposure at 1/100 shutter speed and f/3.5 when the lens is zoomed out to 18mm. Then during recording you zoom in to 55mm. At this length the lens can only provide you with f/5.6 and then the video mysteriously gets darker. To overcome this I rarely zoom in or out during recording, and I use fixed aperture lenses like a 200mm f/2.8 prime, 50mm f/1.8 prime and some more primes.

My recommendation, get a Canon 550D and then spend more on prime lenses. Oh, don't forget to get a tripod or a steadicam for non shaky videos. Have a good time making movies!

Video/Digital camera maybe under $250?
I go to a lot of shows and i only have a cheap 10mp digital camera. Its sound comes out full of static and you can't understand anything.

What camera or recording device is best for recording concerts/shows/anything loud?

Answer
The "best" will be any device with manual audio control. The automatic audio gain control in any camcorder get overpowered by loud audio resulting in clipping and that muddy and static sound.

Correctly using manual audio control prevents that clipping because it bypasses the auto mic gain control. The least expensive current camcorders - of which I am aware - with manual audio control are the Canon HV30 and the Sony HDR-HC9. They are well outside your budget.

An alternative is to keep using the camcorder you are using and get an external audio recording device - a field recorder - like those from Zoom, Edirol, Marantz, Sony, and others. When you edit the video, import the audio from the field recorder, sync the audio, then mute the audio that came in with the video.

I hope to get a digital Canon camera later next year and was wondering which is the best.
I would like to get into photography, and I know Canon is one of the best brands out there.
A link from Best Buy would be helpful, or any other website too.
A camera with great quality, maybe 14 mega pixels, be able to record videos too.
Or if you have other brands that you think are great and worked for you, please say so!
I really appreciate the advice.
Here's some pictures I've taken with an 8.2 mega pixel Kodak digital camera from my deviantART gallery page:

My photography taste is pretty random, not really into taking pictures of prepared stuff and models, but more at spontaneous moments and real people doing real things

Answer
Clarissa,

If you are thinking about getting a camera at the end of next year (2011), your asking for camera models now is really very premature. The major camera manufacturers (Canon & Nikon) turn over their models every few months. By the end of next year whatever anyone might recommend now will most certainly be considered obsolete (or even off the market altogether).

I looked at the shots you've attached from your Kodak compact camera. And, believe that if you have your heart set on moving up to a DSLR (digital single lens reflex) with interchangeable lenses that you should begin with a starter DSLR to learn how such more advanced cameras operate.

There are a lot of technical details to learn in photography. As well as the equally important aesthetics ones (for composition & framing). Two starter DSLRs for you to check out are the Canon XS and the Nikon D3000. But, as noted above, who knows if those models will still be around at end of next year.... Some photo stores allow camera rentals. Renting might be a good way for you to test cameras of interest to see how they fit your shooting needs.

Taking a photography class could be a very valuable thing for you to do to develop photographic skills. It would help you learn what gives great photos their "wow" factor. I believe you can follow your philosophy of making photographs that are unplanned and spontaneous, but you should also be able to recognize when something you see is worth shooting & what it takes technically to produce a 'photograph' & not just a 'snapshot'. In a class you can learn that, & also learn how to tweak an already good shot with editing tools to make it sing the way you saw your subject matter in real life & envisioned presenting it to others.

Good luck in your photographic adventure!

Can there be cameras at lady Gaga's 2/22/2013 concert?

Richard Sa

Ok guys I have a problem I have gotten addicted to Lady Gaga and everyone says serves amazing live. So I got tickets to her concert at Madison square garden in New York City on 2/22/2013 and it says "no video/recorder" i don't know why they put that because I have gone to a katy perry concert a d a z100 jingle ball concert in 2011 and brought my camera with no problem. And tho suckss!! Because I cannot wait to get some footage of Lady Gaga's amazing performance. So any advice would be greatly appreciated thanks alot people!! :D

Answer
In general, most big name concerts won't allow you to go in with a hand held video recorder or the big professional camera. And they would not allow to use flash photography.
They won't take your phone away, nor are they likely to search you for a compact camera. If you have these you can use to record or photograph. These are not technically "video recorders".

From photos I can't tell what the button next to the USB socket says. Is it Mode? I'd guess that may switch between taking photos/videos and replaying them.

i know that the $300 is not a lot for an hd video camera and that it won't be the greatest video quality ever, but i'm just a college kid so my funds are limited to say the least. i record tennis matches with my brother, and we usually play at night, as well as basketball games (during the day). any thoughts?

Answer
no consumer HD camera can record sports action except as a blur. that is because of the super high compression. MPEG4, AVCHD and similar codecs record only one actual frame and then throw out the next 7, giving it a GOF factor of 8. on playback the missing frames have to be guessed at by interpolation, which gives blurry jumpy results.

the solution is to use the system most widely used by action sports videographers, which is miniDV. while not HD it can be shot in the widescreen mode so the picture will fill an HDTV screen. And you can get one for under $300, look at the Canon ZR960.

What is a dishwasher worthy video camera model?

zach_u_dad

I want a video camera that has a good balance of price and quality. In the end, its going in a dishwasher. :P I dont need fancy stuff like waterproofing or night-vision, I already have a plan for that. It has to be under $30 and quality like that of the average cell phone or better. What model would best suit this project?

Answer
You will have to be a little clever, and will need a 2nd camera or other recording devise. But when you need to destroy a camera, these are the way to go. You can simply put it in a plastic bag and run wires out for power and recording video.

What's a good but reasonably priced video camera?

snaredrums

I record youtube videos on my crap digital camera. It works but the quality is pretty null. I'm looking to get something good but without a huge price tag if I can. I record music so I'd need something that could pick that up pretty well. Thanks in advance?

Answer
I think $100 range "Flip video" brand "mino" and "ultra" series camcorders are what you are looking for. The quality is not as good as modern full size camcorders but still a lot better than digi cams. They are very popular and you can get them from amazon. The only down side is that the built in memory is only good for 60 minutes recording time.

In movies and music videos what kind of camera do they use to film it. I noticed the picture is so clear, and I wanted to know if they used a speacial kind. And how much would one cost?

Answer
The other posters are correct - but for a little more detail... typically, the professionals do not use consumer-grade camcorders. Even if it looks like they are using a consumer camera, that video is not used - it is typically captured by a pro-grade camera and the video is made to look like it was captured by a consumer cam.

If they even use a camcorder, at the low-end, check out the Sony HVR-Z1U, HVR-Z5U, HVR-Z7U; Canon XH and XL series or the Panasonic HVX200 series. Remember, this is the low end. The Sony HDCAMs and XDCAMs are more common at the mid and high end as are the Panasonic DVPRO systems.

Please note than NONE of these records to the highly compressed consumer-grade MPEG2 or AVCHD that consumer hard disc drive, consumer flash memory or consumer DVD camcorders capture. But many of them do record to DV (standard definition) and HDV (high definition) which is the same at that used by ALL miniDV tape based camcorders whether consumer or professional grade. DV/HDV can also be store to external hard drives connected to miniDV tape based camcorders (like the FireStore drives from Focus Enhancements) or, certain flash memory (like the P2 cards used by the higher end Panasonic camcorders. Then there are the special high capacity DVDs used by a few of the high-end Sony pro-grade HDCAM and XDCAM systems...

If they are working in a studio, it is likely they are not using a camcorder, but regular broadcast cameras... watch your local news or Jeopardy (the game show) or any professional football game - they usually have a shots of the the huge studio broadcast cameras at some point...

Are they "special"? Yes, they all have much larger lenses and imaging chips that consumer camcorders do not have. They are nearly ALWAYS on some sort of steadyting device (tripod, shoulder-mount Steadycam/Glidecam vest and articulating arm system, camera crane, etc... and NEVER just handheld. The camera itself is usually a few thousand. The lenses can be as much or more than the camera and the steadying system can also be as much or more than the camera...

In the movie environment, most large budget movies still use film cameras. Check out Panasonic's VariCam, Sony's CineAlta, Arri or PanaVision cameras... A few are moving to digital cams like the Red Scarlet... These systems can easily be $100,000 or more per camera.

What kind of security surveillance do I need?

Adam

We have been robbed 3 times in the past year by the same people. I'm done playing games and I'm ready to invest some money into whatever I need to catch these thieves. My situation is rather difficult to explain but it will do my best to help convey what problems I'm running into.

*I live on a farm but the area that I'm worried about covers 2 about aces. A football field across.
-The house, a pool house in the backyard, two conjoined butler buildings off to the right from the house, and another butler building off to the right of the conjoined buildings.

*The main areas we want to cover is are the 3 building doors (outside) and and a 4th outdoor camera to overlook the house/pool-house.

*The house is a smaller 2 story house and could put a wireless receiver at the upper floor but unsure about how far the signal would get to before being faded or disrupted by the metal roofing of the butler buildings.

*I do have a home network dlink router in the upper floor away from the building, but the signal will not reach even close to where I need it to be. So I have thought about 2 wireless signals disrupting it. So i will need an option for 2.4g or 5 ghz signals.

*We have running electric in all buildings but cant have wires running from the buildings to the house. for obvious reasons.

*I can't have wires laying outside to my house. yet a wireless signal will have to be able to cover the distance and still get enough signal for fluid video camera footage inside my home.

*I need outdoor, nightvision, motion detection cameras with enough storage to keep enough video on it for 4 cameras.

If someone could provide some professional or personal insight on this I would be very grateful. I never had to worry about this before but now I think that I need to have it. Thank you for reading this and I very much like links to surveillance system bundles. :D

Answer
You do have a very unique situation. One of the best solutions we have is our line of D-Link security cameras. They are wireless, outdoor ready, offer motion detection, night vision, and with the D-Link NVR you can customize how much space you want with options starting at 1 TB and going up to 6 TB. With the motion detection mode on you will get around 30 days worth of recording on 1 TB.

The best part about D-Link is that it is the easiest systems that we have seen to install. Many people that don't have computer expertise have been able to install the wireless cameras and start recording within 5 minutes. This is due to D-Link's easy to use setup wizard.

D-Link NVR (supports up to 9 D-Link cameras)
http://www.apexcctv.com/p-1444-d-link-dnr-332l-cloud-based-nvr.aspx

Entry Level IR/Wireless D-Link IP Cube Camera:
http://www.apexcctv.com/p-1465-d-link-dcs-932l-daynight-home-network-camera.aspx

Pan, Tilt, Zoom D-Link IP Camera that will allow you to remotely control the view zone
http://www.apexcctv.com/p-1462-d-link-dcs-5222l-hd-cloud-based-ptz-ip-camera.aspx

Wireless Booster Transmitter: (this will help you carry your wireless signal up to 2 miles)
http://www.apexcctv.com/p-1450-compact-outdoor-24ghz-wireless-transmitter-receiver.aspx
(will need 2 of these one for the transmitter and the other for the receiver)

A single IP camera can cover as much as up to 4 analog cameras so you don't have to have as many cameras.

Since your property is so big it may be better to have some PTZ cameras so that you can remotely turn the camera to view more of an area or you will have to have a few more static cameras to capture more of the area.

If you have any questions don't hesitate to send me a message.

What is the best digital video camera and software to record a college lecture and how would I do it?

How would you recommend capturing the slides or writing on the board? I was wondering if a separate digital camera would be necessary so low quality video would capture the lecture, then a still camera would capture the slides. What do you think, and is there a single product or package that can do this job without a person needing to click the capture button?

Answer
Depending on the length of the lecture. So if we say 1 hour then we can work from that.

HDD camcorders are a good option, you can get plenty of video on the camera, I assume if its a lecture then you will not want to edit it.

Media card cameras as above but you need to check that you can get enough video on the card.

Mini-DVD not a good option, for good quality video you will need to change the disks.

Mini-DV on normal play you can get 60 minutes but it can be incresed to 90 if you use long play, quality is reduced a little.

You can of course use some cameras to capture directly to a laptop, then you are not limited by storage on the camcorders.

Videoing the lecture, use a tripod, keep the image steady, if possible put a mic by the speaker, as most lecture rooms are bad for audio, too many echo's If you can put the camera directly infront of the speaker, and as close as you can.

there are some tips

hope it all sorts out and you get your camera

Good luck

How do I use web cam to record?

Dr.Y

I am technologically challenged. I want to record some lectures from school, can I do that with a webcam? If so which one would you recomend to use with thinkpad tablet?

Answer
Generally you can not use a webcam to record schoo lectures (unless it's attached to your laptop and you have a whole shmeer of software and a microphone to boot).

the best thing to do is to get a video camera or digital camera that will also record moving video. You are talking about capacities that also need to be of 30 minutes or greater, this speaks loudly to needing storage. there is a digital webcam, that records on SD cards, to the tune of 1 hour per SD card, for under $200.

Do some googling. Older cams are cheap as it stands. You are not looking for Holllywood but instead for functionality. The cameras of the past ten years beat the stuff pros used 35 years ago. It'll look fine.

Google again, as you need to learn about storing the videos / moving them to your PC (USB versus firewire) or simply playing them through your home TV/DVD/VCR (which is still the tried and true easy way to watch)
