Record computer activity straight into video camera without software?

Jessie

Hey guys.

I work in a place where we give presentations via a projector/laptop a lot. We want to be able to give the attendees a dvd of the powerpoint presentations. We tried using a tripod and a camera to record our presentation but we are hitting problems with the image quality and sound. Because it is literally a camera recording a screen in a dark room, the quality is too poor to be able to see some of the data and captions.

Thus, we are on a quest for new ideas. We don't need to see the lecturer in the video but We just need the voice and the presentation to follow along to it. Also, we want to be able to do it without installing software because some of the presenters bring their own laptops and may not feel comfortable with us installing it.

So my question is, I've got an HD Canon Vixia HF200 and I'd like to be able to record something directly from my computer screen into the camera so that we can burn that onto a DVD. I saw a few videos online about doing so, but they use VGA to s-video and I was hoping there were more options then that.

The camera has the following outputs:
- HDMI (preferred)
- The squigly trident USB port (trapeziod shaped)
- Component out (rectangle)
- Mic
- DC in
- Mini Advanced shoe on top

We also have the projector, maybe there is an option with that as well? The ports are as follows:
- usb (but the port is more squared)
- s-video
- video /L and R
- computer component
- monitor out

I'd appreaciate any input. Thanks!

Answer
I do a lot of screencasts for my educational video podcast, and the one I've found to be great and easy to use is Total Screen Recorder. The screen recording is rendered as .AVI / WMV / SWF / FLV.

Critique Vocals in Video?

Belinda

Hi,

Could you please tell me what you guys think about my friend's voice? The video is at the address below. Thank you so much!

http://youtube.com/watch?v=LvN3Fv6KiAY

Answer
Your friend should work on recording in general it's not the best presentation of his voice at all. He's not the best singer in the world but the vocals really aren't that bad either but, some of the lyrics don't even come out as audible. The camera is also shaking a lot and the music is fading in and out which is extremely distracting. I hope I don't sound too critical but, these are just the things I noticed and I'm not the best singer either. Ben commented on my question regarding my own singing and he gave some feedback but, it's kind of hard to get what's he saying. I don't think he speaks English.

Time-Lapse Video Help?

Paisley

My professor video taped a presentation I did on her video camera but she recorded it as a time-lapse video. Is there any way this could be fixed? I was hoping to keep this video since it was part of my year long project. Thanks for the help!

Answer
Unless the time lapse was actually fast forward, no. If it was a time lapse mode she recorded in, then her camera took one frame every x number of seconds and it plays back at the normal speed of say 30 frames per second. Any information that took place between each frame is lost for good.

It's like taking a before and after shot with nothing documenting the in- bweeen steps.

how do you record good quality sound from hd video camera?

Taz

it is a live event and I have full access to video rights ,the sound and the p.a system.

Answer
In this case, get a Digital Audio Recorder and the cable needed to hook this to the PA system. Record the audio separately, this venue probably has better audio capture hardware, make use of it. Then mix audio in post on your NLE timeline. Then be a roving camera operator, does not matter what sounds you capture, if you have a good enough NLE, lock down this audio from camcorder as a separate file and use it as room noise. Be better and beg, borrow some body to help you, use two or three camcorders and make a good presentation in the end, no ne needs to worry what sound they are capturing, only the video image.

When using a device to capture audio that is not your camcorder, use this tip to be able to SYNC your audio and video together once both are put on a timeline for video editing purposes. Standing close to Microphone, in front of your camcorder, with both recording devices recording the video and audio, CLAP, LOUDLY. Now so long as the recorders stay recording, you have a sync point so when you get back to the computer, it is much easier to sync the audio and video together.

Most of all, have fun.

So i'm making a big presentation with giant posterboards and stuff called: why i need a video camera. but i need 5 good reasons to put in the presentation of why i need a video camera, and i don't know why but i just can't think of anything. please help! and if you're gonna say something like: oh that's a stupid idea, just don't answer the question that gets really annoying and it doesn't help. all i need are some ideas of reasons to put in the presentation. thnx!!

I can't watch videos from my camera on the computer?

kimz

I recorded a speech choir presentation on my camera and it is 792 mb. It wont play on my computer when I try viewing it. Can anyone pls.help me with this? Thanks in advance! It would really mean a lot cause Im planning to upload it on facebook or whatever site.

Answer
The camera that it was recorded on would have helped or even just the video format.

Try VLC player, available from www.videolan.org

its a free player and will play most video formats, where windows media player wont. The reason for the video not playing is you do not have the correct codecs installed in your computer, VLC player contains most of the commonly used ones.

You can also convert the video in VLC player to upload it to "whatever site" :)

Video Camera for Recording Conference Presentations?

Lost

I need a good video camera for recording speakers at conferences - I need their slides to come out clearly and also need good audio pickup. I would like something small and compact. What is the best format (HD)?

Any camera recommendations? Thanks.

Answer
Sound wise, the key will be to get a camera that has microphone or audio inputs and metering that allows you to monitor audio levels. A camera that has these features will be over $1500. Hopefully your company or organization will be willing to spend that much (or more). The best way to get good sound in a conference is to get the audio straight from the sound system mixer output and feed that to the camera audio input. Even a great camera if it is using it's own microphone will sound pretty bad if the camera is a good distance from the person speaking. The key is to have the microphone close to the person speaking (as the sound system microphone would be).

Entry level cameras:

http://www.vidinc.net/paag7.html

http://www.vidinc.net/panagcam.html

http://www.vidinc.net/canongl2.html

There is an inexpensive way around this though...what I do is take the video output from an inexpensive consumer grade camera and the audio output from the conference room sound system and feed both to an inexpensive DVD recorder (around $150). That way I record direct to DVD with great quality and not a big investment.

If you need more details, please e-mail me.

Don't use a camera at all - capture the screen directly to a file. Some of the programs at http://download.cnet.com/windows/video-capture-software/ may work for you. Or CamStudio - http://camstudio.org/

How to switch from camera recording me to a computer screen?

Okay, I need to do a presentation for a school project.
I want to know how to be able to switch my recording from camera to my computer screen.
For example, let's say I'm talking about disease rates of a certain plant disease like powdery mildew.
Say that the camera is recording me while I'm talking. How do I make it so that I can quickly change the camera from recording me to recording the computer screen like bringing a power point up or an image. I want to be able to transition it back to me and back to the computer screen. Thanks

Answer
If this is not on laptop, even then I could do this on a laptop. Get a mid range editing program, they run anywhere fro $89 to$129, use it's capture suite to capture you. Do your talk, , you could have the capture running, the other PPT or image on screen. When done capturing your blurb, program will save to drive the blurb.

Turn camcorder around, capture the PPT program, do it slow and easy, save this video to drive.

Open blurb in editing program, drag blurb to timeline. Lock the audio of this clip down, no cutting or removing. edit out (cut) sections out where you want to insert image or PPT video, results in you talking while Pic or PPT footage is playing on the screen.

What program would I use to make a video of activity on my computer?

For example, if I want to make a video showing how to format a Word document. How can I make a movie of the steps I am taking? I've seen some people use a video camera aimed at their monitor but I'm hoping to have a higher quality than that. And could I make a video of a Power Point presentation?

(I had such good luck with my last question, I thought I'd try another.)

I have to make a powerpoint presentation, then project it on to a white board and stand there and give a lecture based on the power point slides. The lecture will be recorded with a video camera. The lighting is strong in the room and good for the video camera. But, what color powerpoint presentation would show well in strong light and with a video camera? Thanks

Answer
I have recently write this article about background color for presentation so I think I could contribute to your question pretty well. If you have the light on all the time and recording it, you probably want to avoid using darker color as background with white color font.

For usability purpose, having a white background and black color font like the traditional BCG presentations would work. Otherwise, choose a light background color and match it with black color font will work well too.

I hope I have answered your question well.

how do you make a video without having to literaly record one with a camera?

Julia

people make videos with pictures and words they type themselves without having to use a video camera to record it or anything like that. how?

Answer
The process all ends with a video-editing program (i.e. Avid Media Composer, Adobe Premiere, Apple Final Cut Pro, Pinnacle Studio, Sony Vegas, Apple iMovie, Windows Movie Maker, etc.), or an animation program like Blender or Adobe Flash, or a video graphics program like Adobe After Effects.

To get there, it's a matter of what elements are going into the video. Are they still photos? PowerPoint/Keynote/Impress presentations? Animations? Whatever the case, the program that you use to create them should have a still image export or video export option. You can then take these files into your video-editing, animation, or graphics program.

Get Wondershare DemoCreator, Democreator create software tutorial and presentation by recording screen, but more than a screen recorder, you can record all the actions taking on the application and then add some tips or instructions to it, even more, you can easily add the narration from microphone or import audio file directly. At last, you can publish it to Flash, auto-run CD, EXE, e-mail, ftp, LMS. As you know, flash file has smaller size and is safer for transmission, i think it will useful for you!
Good luck!

Will a Nikon Coolpix L18 camera with a 2gb sd card hold 15 minutes worth of video?

E-Dizzle

I need to record a presentation for a class and I want to use my camera to record the video, is that enough space to hold 15 minutes of footage?

Answer
Just call Nikon and ask them. They will know exactly how you can get 15 minutes of continuous video from your camera

800.NIKON-UX

Things other than the size of your card can influence the answer.

* how long the camera will record any one event
* the speed class of the card you are using
* ask how to disable the auto-shutoff feature your camera has for extending the battery life on your camera

I hope I have answered your question well.

how do you make a video without having to literaly record one with a camera?

people make videos with pictures and words they type themselves without having to use a video camera to record it or anything like that. how?

I can't watch videos from my camera on the computer?
Q. I recorded a speech choir presentation on my camera and it is 792 mb. It wont play on my computer when I try viewing it. Can anyone pls.help me with this? Thanks in advance! It would really mean a lot cause Im planning to upload it on facebook or whatever site.

What is the importance of recording Speaker's Notes in a PowerPoint presentation?
Q. In what ways recording Speaker Notes during a presentation would be useful in a meeting or when planning a social event?
Is this a technique you would use?

A. It depends on the subject of the meeting. If it lends to a lot of discussion and conversation, then you need the discussion recorded. Certainly if there are things that need follow up, they need recorded and also the results of the discussion recorded. Either use a recorder or a video camera depending on what you need and is easiest to use.

What program would I use to make a video of activity on my computer?

Screen shots with a description would work for my example, Tick Tock, but what I really wanted to do was record a power point presentation for upload to you tube. When I get it posted I know you will get a BIG kick out of it.

A. http://www.hyperionics.com/hc/downloads.asp
no fancy interface
set your dimensions and change your save avi file location

f2 to stop recording

it works

what good screen recorder or camera that also records sound can i use to record videos?
Q. what good screen recorder or camera that also records sound can i use to record videos, Mugen, take pics etc

ps. the main thing is that it records vids and sound

Good luck!
Cheers!

You can try it for free to see if it works for what you need it for.

how do you record good quality sound from hd video camera?
Q. it is a live event and I have full access to video rights ,the sound and the p.a system.
