taping college lectures?

shannon

Has anybody done this?
Would you recommend doing it?
What kind of voice recorder did you use?
Did it help you in the class?
Any other information you have would be great!
Thanks in advance!

Answer
I would not recommend voice recording lectures. The noise amplification is way too high for you to get anything from it. You'll spend a lot of time decrypting what the prof said, rather than doing hw. If you decide to record, use a video camera. You get to watch the lectures by listening and looking at the notes. Plus you can distribute them to your classmates for a fee. Quite honestly, I'm in my Senior year and I don't even take notes, and I'm an EE major. The best thing to do is just read the chapter before you come to class, that way you're ready with questions.

Video camera with TV-like picture quality?

Rob L

I want to make instructional videos, and need some recommendations for affordable video cameras with a high quality picture.

I definitely don't want my lectures to seem like they're recorded with a hand-cam, but more like the vid on the front page of this site:

Any ideas?

i use a canon xl1, it is a porsumer/ semi professional camera, v good quality footage, they are expensive new but if you check on ebay you might be able to pick one up relatively cheap. i got mine for around 600 sterling. if you want good quality audio i recommend using the marshal mxl.006, it is a usb microphone, i use it for recording radio voice overs. very professional sound.
