my friend's band wants to record a live show. i have a flip camera, but i am not sure it will work well with loud noises. does it take good quality sound videos in that circumstance?

Answer
I would worry more about the lighting than the sound.
Flip cameras have no flash, so unless the band will be well lighted, the picture will be dark and grainy. Make sure you are close to the band so the scene is well lighted. This should help with the sound as well.
However, you should really consider rending a high caliber professional camera. Flip is a toy.

How can I record concerts for personal use?

I tried with my MP3-player but the music was too loud and it all got distorted. Is there a low-budget mp3-player that records live-music well enough?

Answer
Why dont you just video tape it with a digital camera or something and then when you upload it to your computer you can rip the audio from the video. A good program that does that is Audio Extracter, its free.
