capturing lectures. Now the camera should clearly capture what is being written on the board and nothing (as far as possible) should be blurred and confusing while recording the lecture.

Which video camera would you think fit the case?

Answer
To do this, I would use a MiniDV tape camcorder, a Canon ZR 960, maybe, locked down on a tripod. If the person giving the lecture has a audio system already in use, I would use a Digital Audio Recorder, hooked to his mixer via a line out, then mix it all in post. The Mini DV Tape camcorder would have the 'Easy' or 'Auto' feature turned off, running totally on manual mode, pre-focused so as to cause no issues when filming.

Focus tip - set camcorder on a tripod or firm surface. Turn the Easy or Auto function on your camcorder off, turn your camcorder on. Find something far away (I use a Post it Note, on far wall above light switch, You could maybe use a car a license plate, parked a block away, if your outdoors) then zoom in on this object, all the way. Focus your camcorder on this object. Now return you camcorder to normal zoom, show the big picture. Now, if you do not turn the camcorder off or touch the focus controls, it will be in focus from the distance away your focus object was to the camcorder lens, at any zoom ( say your focus object was 15 feet, everything up to 15 feet will be in focus, anything beyond that 15 feet is not.)

In this case, do your focus on something farther away than the blackboard is. You could do this outside, as long as your camcorder remembers this setting, you could do this outdoors and then bring your camcorder in and set it up. Eg- if you sit 30 feet away from blackboard, focus outside on something 40 or 45 feet away, remember, everything between you and that focus point is in focus, so when taken inside, a 30 foot away blackboard is in focus.

what color powerpoint presentation would be good if I have to use a projector and video camera?

John S

I have to make a powerpoint presentation, then project it on to a white board and stand there and give a lecture based on the power point slides. The lecture will be recorded with a video camera. The lighting is strong in the room and good for the video camera. But, what color powerpoint presentation would show well in strong light and with a video camera? Thanks

Answer
I have recently write this article about background color for presentation so I think I could contribute to your question pretty well. If you have the light on all the time and recording it, you probably want to avoid using darker color as background with white color font.

For usability purpose, having a white background and black color font like the traditional BCG presentations would work. Otherwise, choose a light background color and match it with black color font will work well too.

I hope I have answered your question well.
