Can I have my laptop camera record things without using skype or something?

Q. I have a Dell from 2012 with a built in video camera. Can I use it to take pictures and video without using skype and sending it to people? If so, how?

Answer
Hi Emma,

I am Shuchi from the Dell Social Media outreach team.

In order to use the inbuilt webcam you need webcam central software for capturing pictures and recording Videos. Usually this software goes preinstalled in the dell system.

Please visit following link for more information regarding the same:

http://dell.to/1eJPKpm

The main screen of Webcam central software has two tabs:

Snap Photos: Pictures can be taken with this option. Further settings available are Photo Size (the default is max-640x480), Self Timer and Burst Rate.
Advanced options include File Format (.jpeg/.bmp) and options to add date and time stamps to pictures.

Record Videos: Videos can be recorded with this option. The settings available are Video Size (the default is max-640x480), Self Timer and Microphone Settings.
Advanced options include Video Format (.wmv/.avi) and an option limiting the video clip duration. When selected, .avi option also shows the audio and video compression options.

General Settings Tab. This setting has the following options: Picture Control - Flicker Control with frequency settings, and video control with backlight, brightness, contrast, Color & Gamma; Face Tracking - Enable/Disable Face Tracking with tracking speed adjustments; Pan & Zoom - Zoom control and Pan & Tilt options.

The tab "Show Todays Captures" has options to Upload pictures to Photobucket, Send by e-mail and Print directly. Another feature "Video Stitch" can be used to combine pictures which can be played as a video file.

The size of a picture when saved as a .jpeg is about 75kb and when saved as a .bmp is about 900k. The size of a 20-sec video when saved as a .wmv is about 2MB and when saved as an .avi with default compression is about 500MB. The Tray Icon has options to Launch the application, and set default options like Start Webcam Central when Windows starts, Enable Mini-mode viewer, and so on.

Please revert to this post if you have any further queries and concerns.

We would recommend you do not post your private information on a public forum.

Thanks & Regards

What would it take to make wearable video cameras on police officers mandatory for all departments?

Q. Im doing a research paper on police misconduct and the solution to it, my solution is wearable video cameras and i'd like to know what would it take to make it mandatory.

Answer
It would take a history of use showing what the actual effect of law dogs wearing body cams prove.

Wearing a Badge, and a Video Camera
THE Rialto study began in February 2012 and will run until this July. The results from the first 12 months are striking. Even with only half of the 54 uniformed patrol officers wearing cameras at any given time, the department over all had an 88 percent decline in the number of complaints filed against officers, compared with the 12 months before the study, to 3 from 24.
Rialtoâs police officers also used force nearly 60 percent less often â in 25 instances, compared with 61. When force was used, it was twice as likely to have been applied by the officers who werenât wearing cameras during that shift, the study found.

Rialto, CA Police Made to Wear Cameras, Use of Force Drops by Over Two-Thirds

When cops in a Rialto, California were forced to wear cameras, their use of force dropped by over two-thirds. Additionally, the officers who were not made to wear the cameras used force twice as much as those who did. This strongly suggests the majority of the time police use force is unnecessary. In other words, the majority of the time these officers used force they were simply committing acts of violence which they don't feel comfortable committing if it's captured on film.
He said he reminded them that civilians could use their cellphones to record interactions, "so instead of relying on somebody else's partial picture of what occurred, why not have your own?" he asked. "In this way, you have the real one."

Police love to say if you're not doing anything wrong, what do you have to hide, yet all over the nation police unions virulently fight calls to force them to wear cameras.

Fact is, most cops have everything and more to hide.

Their job is to enforce criminally idiotic and anti-human laws written by criminal politicians, from the drug laws to thousands of idiotic regulations on the books, their job is no longer to arrest violent criminals and thieves but to aggress against non-violent, non-criminals -- which turns them into criminals themselves.

Hhmmm seems to have a time termed effect, that being the use of force drops when the dog knows his action are provable. It seems to show that John Q walking into a dog house and complaining about bad doggy behaviors get dropped when John Q is shown the body cam recorded view. But dogs are wary, why? Because like their own concern for personal safety during their shifts, they are concerned with their own privacy from their superiors of what their doing while on the job. so basically the dogs don't want the public to know how they act and they don't want the big dogs to know how they feel, personally.

Officers fear body cameras raise privacy concerns
The lack of clear guidelines on the cameras' use could potentially undermine departments' goals of creating greater accountability of officers
And some rank-and-file officers are worried the technology might ultimately be used to derail their careers if, for example, an errant comment about a superior is captured on tape.
They say, however, that the lack of clear guidelines on the cameras' use could potentially undermine departments' goals of creating greater accountability of officers and jeopardize the privacy of both the public and law enforcement officers.
Equipping police with cameras isn't a new concept. For decades police have used cameras mounted to the dashboards of their patrol cars â initially referred to with suspicion by officers as "indict-o-cams" until they discovered the footage exonerated them in most cases.

Camcorder or DSLR Camera with date and time stamp?

Mike

I'm looking for a good camera between the $300-800 price range, preferably a DSLR, that can give me a date and time stamp on recorded video. I am a private investigator and it is required while recording video or taking pictures. It needs to be saved on the finished product as well.

Thanks!

Answer
As proof of when the video was taken it is worthless. The date stamp will only show the date that you have set in the camera.
You could set the date now to 19th December 2012. Any stills or movie you shoot will show that as the date.

I had this issue where I need to prove the reading on a meter at specific dates. The verifier insisted on using date stamped photographs until I took out my camera and took a photo of him that "proved" he had been in my office 3 months before!!!

How do i transfer videos from my Android to my PC?

Jakester93

Im trying to get videos on my phone to my PC. I connected them with a USB, and opened my phone storage to look for the videos, but I cannot find them! Is there an easier way to do this, or can somebody help me and walk me through this? Thank you!

P.s. I have a Droid X
Thank you, I transfered them, but for some reason some of the videos i recorded are not playing after I transfered them, they turned into a jpg?

Answer
Are they videos that you recorded? If so, and if I'm remembering correctly, then you should find the videos in a folder on your memory card called DCIM. The video should be in a folder within DCIM called Camera. And the file will be the date and time you recorded the video. For example "2012-02-06_14-28-53.....3gp"

Are you sure that you recorded them as videos, and not just photos? Videos should be saved as .3gp files, whereas photos are saved as .jpg files. You may, however, need a video converter in order to play the videos on your computer. Something like Any Video Converter should do the job.

What Video Camera Should I Get?

Naygro Joe

So I make films for youtube as a hobby (Comedy Sketches) and I want a camera with good quality. Like good HD quality that I can edit special effects into cleanly. Don't just recommend the cheap ass ones because I'm "Just Learning". I've been doing this for 3 years with only 60 subscribers :( . I also plan on entering some film festivals/competitions. I have around $500 but I can get more over time, I probably can't spend more than $800. So, what do you guys recommend :P

Answer
Canon PowerShot A1300 16.0 MP Digital Camera with 5x Digital Image Stabilized Zoom 28mm Wide-Angle Lens with 720p HD Video Recording Great camera for the price. Purchased the camera in May 2012 to shoot family events, friends ect. You could not ask for a better price vs performance camera. Very simple to use, excellent picture and video quality. I would suggest getting a cushioned camera case that includes the USB thumb drive reader for $10, the case is perfect for travel and storage when not in use. The USB reader is a great option when offloading the memory card.

Need help with what video camera I need!?

Connor

So I'm not an expert in video camera specs, or what I need and where to look. I like to edit, and shoot videos. I'm also not willing to spend $3000 on one of the new 2010-2012 model professional JVC, Panasonic or Sony video cameras, so I'm looking for a model around 2004-2009 that will only cost about $600-1200 (but more likely $800). I want a shotgun microphone attached, and a great focus feature. It can be used or new, but if it's used, it can't have any damage to the lens or to the parts or have any broken features. If you can't find me any models, could you tell me what I should be searching for? What keywords? Because when I search up something like "2008 Sony professional video camera" it gives me home camcorders or new models, or models that are worth like $3000 (because the posts were made at the time the cameras were released). I would much appreciate it if someone could help me out. Thanks :)

2012 Video Cameras with 300 Dollar Price Range?

Q. I'm looking for a camera with high audio and video quality HD camera, at least 30fps adjustable, also it has to be able to have mic. add ons and lens add ons. I don't care about interfaces so throw them at me.

Answer
The best video images to be had come from a MiniDV tape camcorder. Every other storage media type camcorders interpolate the video, which means the video you transfer from this device; about 80% of the content of that file did not come from the lens assembly on the camcorder, but rather from electronic circuitry within the camcorder. This occurs because of the way every consumer level HD camcorders that does not use MiniDV tape media, takes video. You turn these on, press record and the camcorder takes one frame from the camcorder lens assembly, then makes 4 or 5 frames from the electronic circuitry within the camcorder then another frame from the lens and 4 or 5 frames not from the lens, this goes on and on throughout your whole video. This means do not a point a consumer level HD camcorders, that does not use MiniDV tape media, at any moving thing, as the resulting video will be mostly unwatchable. Then blend in the fact, these camcorders videos take pretty beefed up computer for editing and proper viewing. MiniDV tape camcorder is the way to go.

And they will be making even more models with MiniDV capabilities in this upcoming model year, because they finding out people are not satisfied with most HD footage in action scenes.

Free Video Editing Download? Music Video?

B G

My chemistry teacher has asked us to make a music video about an element on the periodic table. We are going to record it on a video camera but don't know how to make it come together. we need a video editing program to cut and create a music video. We will not have seperate audio.

Answer
How about three very good freeware video editor programs, Freemake, FileLab, or VSDC? Each is safe, fully functioning, no watermarks, will not ask for money, and are recent releases that are HD capable.

They are listed in order of increasing capabilities. Freemake provides merging of video clips, and simple editing such as cutting and splicing. It will also automatically upload your video to YouTube if desired. It is also capable of converting your video to just about any video format in existence. FileLab has much more features, such as color correction, title editor, and special effects. FileLab also runs on both PC's and Macs (no-kidding)! VSDC is an advanced editor, capable of effects such as green screen editing. The following link has more info, but make sure to also view other articles on this site, as they outline other capabilities of these three programs.:

how many hours of video footage would a 32gb class ten microsd card hold in a gopro white?

Answer
It depends on the video quality selected in the camera.

Lower quality = smaller video file = more record time.
Higher quality = larger video file = less record time.

Read the manual:

How can I record my answering machine messages to another device?

Jake Crumb

Not for me, but regardless: Somebody I know is looking to get a new house phone. However, his wife doesn't want a new phone because of messages from loved ones who have recently passed. I was wondering- with 2012 approaching- if there's any such device by now that could record these sentimental messages from the answering machine and be kept on another device or stored onto a computer. I'd appreciate the help.
Please and thank you.

Answer
If it has an earphone jack then it could be run into a audio IN on an audio or video recording camera or recorder.

Or, take any smart phone, video camera or still camera that also shoot video and get it real close to the answering machine, put the camera/recorder into record mode and play back the messages.

What kind of digital camera should I get?

best camera for video recording 2012
on ... video camera to record your golf swing, including most modern camera
best camera for video recording 2012 image

Anonymous.

I have a 2009 panosonic lumix (digital not HD - forget type though), but it's kind of broken because the lens won't open fully. I think it's time to get a new camera since I haven't gotten one since early 2010. I plan to be a photographer in the future (as a side job). I am also going to work at a camp and plan to take pictures there. I don't feel like bringing my big EOS digital 2008 cannon. Here's what I'm looking for:

1. Price range no more than $250. I would prefer less than $200, but if it would really suite me, then I'd go for it.
2. I'm not quite sure what I like. I know there's no such thing as a total all around digital point and shoot because I've been doing some research. I'd probably be doing photo shoots, but I also want one that would take like pictures of people doing sports since I'm in the horse world and like to take pictures of people horse riding and stuff. I guess I'd mainly focus on pets and kids and stuff.
3. I know optical zoom. I have photoshop CS5, so I don't need the pixels taken up like that.
4. I don't need a video recording. Would be nice, but eh I'd rather save my money and just use my phone or something.
5. I have a 2010 mac book pro laptop, so I'd like the card to be able to read/format on that.
6. If I print out images, it doesn't need to be more than 8X10 photo paper printed pictures. I mean I'd use my bigger camera for larger photos, so yeah. I'll probably just post the pictures online/email them if anything so won't need them really printed big.
7. I'd like to have a camera that has a decent battery life. At camp, the power went out for 8 days last year. I was able to take pictures the whole time and took over 300 pictures and still had battery life. I wouldn't mind having a long battery life like that camera.
8. My hand does shake a tad sometimes, so I'd prefer a not SOOO sensitive camera.
9. I'd like a camera that has the ability for manual settings and as well as auto or/and preset settings.
10. I'd prefer like Cannon, Nikon, Panasonic (nicer brands rather than the not so trustworthy brands because I know how to use those types of cameras).

Which camera(s) do you think would best suite me?

Answer
http://keerok-photography.blogspot.com/2012/09/cannon-is-weapon.html

1. Price is right smack in your budget.
2. Zoom is enough on this camera for taking horses and their riders. This is also good for shots of pets, kids and stuff which are near you or relatively out of reach. Just remember to shoot under lots of light. Indoors, use flash.
3. Optical zoom is not extravagant but not wanting either. Don't worry. What it lacks in zoom, it makes up with optical quality.
4. This has HD video which you can completely ignore until you find a lustful desire for it later.
5. As a standard feature, all cameras follow the FAT filesystem. With memory cards 4GB and larger, FAT32 is imposed. Mac computers can recognize FAT/FAT32 without problems. You can even format the memory card to FAT/FAT32 using your Mac (no matter how many pro photographers advice you not to). It will work.
6. This is a 16MP camera. You can print to 11x16" as long as exposure quality is gloriously good enough.
7. Four AA batteries. The best would be Energizer Lithium but you can also get rechargeable Ni-MH. Just make sure they're at least 2100 mAh for very long lasting shooting. In the event you run out, just slide over to the nearest store for some Alkaline AA's. That's the beauty of it.
8. Oh, this camera's sensitive. Apart from excellent optical glass quality, it has a triple-shake-reduction technology so don't worry about shaky hands. You're covered on that one.
9. Manual exposure? Manual focus? No problem. It's not as intuitive as a dSLR. This is after all just a bridge but, if you want manual, this has manual.
10. Since you can't spell Canon correctly, I'll take it you don't know that this brand is older than them and just a tad younger than Nikon. There was a time in fact when all cameras sold by all other brands (nice and not so trustworthy) were lesser than that sold by this brand alone. So there.

Why isnt there video surveillance of Adam Lanza in Sandy Hook?

During Columbine, there is video of kids running in the cafeteria, then you see the boys walking by. Also, whats up with the footage from the helicopter of the man running in the woods from Sandy Hook?

Answer
This was one of my questions exactly. The school (along with the entire district) had just implemented a new security system that included video surveillance. A letter that the district sent to all parents at the beginning of the 2012-13 school year stated in part:

"Dear Members of our Sandy Hook Family,

Our district will be implementing a security system in all elementary schools as part of our ongoing efforts to ensure student safety. As usual, exterior doors will be locked during the day. Every visitor will be required to ring the doorbell at the front entrance and the office staff will use a VISUAL MONITORING SYSTEM to allow entry. Visitors will still be required to report directly to the office and sign in. If our office staff does not recognize you, you will be required to show identification with a picture id. Please understand that with nearly 700 students and over 1000 parents representing 500 SHS families, most parents will be asked to show identification." http://www.wtnh.com/dpp/news/fairfield_cty/sandyhook-security-policy#.UPwyH2eANPQ

Concerning the man in the woods, I downloaded the audio from the police scanner (NOT from any conspiracy theory site or link, but from the legitimate source for radio communications--RadioReference.com). This incident is acknowledged on the scanner audio ("They're coming at me...this is it!") Also, during the media coverage, CBS reported that there was a potential second shooter in custody, and also showed a short interview of an eye witness who said a man in handcuffs wearing camo was walked out of the woods by police and put in the front seat of a nearby patrol car. He motioned with his head in the direction where the man was being held, but the camera did not pan over. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i9TYG3MFuQE

The main thing that prompted me to start an independent investigation of the Sandy Hook incident was the inconsistencies in the media coverage. First, they reported that only two handguns were used. It was reported that it had been positively confirmed that a shotgun and rifle were taken to the scene, but left in the trunk of the car. (This is also acknowledged on the scanner audio). They even showed footage of an officer unloading and removing a shotgun from the trunk of a car. Later the story was changed to four handguns were found inside, and finally to no handguns were used--only the "long rifle" (AR-15).

Also, I am a mother of four, and I can't imagine something like this happening to my 4-year old, who is in pre-K. But I also have a son turning 13 this year who has Asperger's, and this really became personal to me when the media referred to Adam Lanza as a "mentally diseased monster." My son has had his moments with social awkwardness, but I know without a doubt that he would not be capable of such a heinous act absent mind control. He is very loving, and has an innocence and naiveté about him that most boys his age seem to lack. However, he probably does have the potential to be easily manipulated.

So, naturally, what upset me the MOST from the police scanner audio was when one officer says, "Standby. Units in front of the school. We're conducting an interior search at this time." His voice gets progressively quieter as he says this, and at the end, he whispers the word "time." Then he whispers something that sounds like, "End (or take) the life of Adam." This chilled me to the core, and I played it for several people, who could also hear this. I searched the internet, and discovered that other people had found it as well: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=02he0pmp1sM

So how does this fit into the official story of the media? If there even was such a person as Adam Lanza (his official photos appear to be layered, and there's no record of him anywhere for the past several years), was he somehow manipulated to be a patsy for this incident? Why was it reported that he shot himself? Why would he have bothered to don a bullet proof vest if he had planned to shoot himself? What was his motive? Too many questions...

Can I have my laptop camera record things without using skype or something?

Emma

What kind of digital camera should I get?

best camera for video recording 2012
on Best Camera for Video Recording: 2013-08-04
best camera for video recording 2012 image

So there.

I want a good 1080p hd video camera for a good price. I was thinking around the 250$-300$ range. I don't know if it is possible but if any one knows of any good deals let me know.
Thanks

What video editing software does bubzbeauty use?

best camera for video recording 2012 image

Angel Girl

Like for side captions and stuff. And I'd really like to know, how beauty gurus or any other Video maker makes their videos look perfect and all. Is is self-recorded? And like, for beauty gurus, how do they focus the camera place to place without it showing them doing it?

Answer
Try Filelab or Freemake.

FileLab is a new release, and is a freeware video editing program. It is very good, and very easy to use. And it has a very good Caption title editor along with fancy transitions and effects like I'm assuming that you want to incorporate into your videos.

Freemake is one of the most easiest video editor and converter programs out there. It is a Swiss Army Knife in that it can do just about anything for converting videos, and it does them well.

And with both of these you easily can clip out the intro and ending where you can cut out that part of the video where your turning the camera on and off.

Both are no-kidding freeware, yet both are also safe to download. More info with download links at the following blog article:

How did they record the free fall/skydive of Felix Baumgartner? Is there something following him as he descend?

I Am Who I

RE: Red Bull Stratos mission on Oct 14, 2012.
The infrared video that shows you daredevil Felix jumping down from a height of 128, 100 ft. What is the technology they used to record that and followed him down? I'm just curious.

Answer
They used the same mobile tracking cameras that are used to film rocket launches as they did when the shuttle flew.

this is one of them a jlair http://vimeo.com/41942694

Would it be a problem if I bring my dslr camera to a Knicks game?

Q. For my boyfriend bday present, I bought tickets to a Knicks game this upcoming week. We're not from NY so we gonna take the train there pretty early just to enjoy New York. I want to bring my camera obviously to take pics of the city. But I'm not sure if it'll be okay to bring my camera with me to the game. I have no where to leave it if cant. So for anyone who ACTUALLY went to a Knicks game at Madison Square Garden is it a big deal? Just wondering nothing sarcastic pleaseee.

A. From the MSG website:

"Cameras and Recording Devices

Video cameras, monopods, tripods, audio recording devices and cameras with telephoto or zoom lenses are not permitted inside MSG at any time. This policy will be strictly enforced. You may bring in a disposable or 35mm (with no zoom or telephoto lens) camera, however, for some events, cameras of any type and/or flash photography may be prohibited."

EDIT: I live in New York. I go to a lot of Knicks games. I don't know what kind of camera you're referring to, but if it's one that resembles something like this:

http://justdigitalcamera.files.wordpress.com/2012/08/nikon-d90-digital-camera.jpg?w=490&h=367

Then yeah, you cannot bring it inside. However, I always sneak in my digital camera. It's one of those that don't have the big protruding thingy, and it can fit right in my pocket. If you can't bring your camera, there are places in the city where you can rent a locker for a few hours and you can leave your camera in there.

Have fun!

How long can an iPhone, iPod, Android, Samsung Galaxy etc... typically record HD video?
Q. I'm considering going from my 2007 iPod Touch 1G to the new 2012 iPod Touch 5G. The 1G didn't even have a camera. I was just wondering in general how long todays smartphones can record HD video because I want to use my new iPod as a dashcam. I'm concerned it would run out of battery or just wouldn't allow for long videos.

A. Well from my experience, and I have a iPod Touch 4G with 8GB memory, I don't have a problem with long videos, unless my 8GB memory is close to full, and then it tells me I don't have enough memory so I have to delete stuff. But it cancels the video.

What camera is best for my situation?

Q. My husband and I are missionaries going to the Congo in Africa (jungle) for the next few years. I am looking for a water resistant, shock resistant camera (very humid environment). I need one that will focus on close ups of items without it blurring or making the objects further away in focus. My current camera is a standard digital camera but it does not focus on close objects and it is not water resistant. The camera will also need to be able to use a memory card so I can email pictures of my daughter back home to the states. Bonus points if it records videos as well.

A. I don't know why Jim A continues to tell people that there's no such thing as a shock resistant camera. Just search for "shockproof camera" on Amazon. There's dozens of them!

Try the Panasonic DMC-FT4 or DMC-TS4 as it's called in the USA. It's waterproof to 12 meters, shockproof for a 2 meter fall, freezeproof to -10 celcius and dustproof. It's got the macro closeup facility you want and uses standard SDHC memory cards. And it records full HD 1080p video. Even underwater!

Review here with a few other waterproof cameras: http://www.lenstip.com/134.5-article-Waterproof_cameras_test_2012_-_part_I_Panasonic_Lumix_DMC-FT4.html

I would advise buying and testing it well before you leave. The biggest recurring complaint I see with waterproof cameras is that they have quality control problems, meaning you don't always get a good waterproof one. It's not the easiest piece of equipment to make because the rubber waterproof seals are quite difficult to design install in a way that guarantees that water can't get in. Usually if they work then they do continue to work well for several years, but it's easy to end up with a duff one.

The problem with closeup macro work is that when you are very close to an object, your depth of field (the amount in focus) is not very great, so things behind the subject do tend to be out of focus. That's just part of the physics of photography.

You can compensate a bit by setting the camera into aperture-priority mode and setting a small aperture, but that in turn means using slower shutter speeds, so you are more likely to introduce blur through camera shake (unless you use a tripod) or through the object moving.

You can compensate for slow shutter speeds a bit by increasing the ISO setting, but that tends to add more "noise" to the image.

This balance of shutter speed, aperture size and ISO setting is at the core of all photography. To get a lot in focus with macro pictures you need a lot of light, a lens which stops down to very small apertures and which focuses close up and a good tripod. That's only really achievable with a Digital SLR camera with dedicated macro lens - and that isn't cheap.

Often the best macro shots are obtained by deliberately throwing everything completely out of focus except for the main object.

What is a good hd recording video camera thats around 100 to 150?
Q. It has to be from the year 2011 or preferably 2012 but either works so yeah thanks in advanced

A. There really isn't anything "good" for that money. You'll get adequate but not good. Good is more in the $500 range and up.

How can I record my answering machine messages to another device?

A. If it has an earphone jack then it could be run into a audio IN on an audio or video recording camera or recorder.

Or, take any smart phone, video camera or still camera that also shoot video and get it real close to the answering machine, put the camera/recorder into record mode and play back the messages.
