I'm going to a concert soon at the Phillips Arena in Atlanta, Georgia. This is what the website said about cameras, "Still cameras (non-professional) are allowed at sporting events, including Atlanta Hawks and Atlanta Dream games. Professional cameras and any audio and video recording devices are prohibited at all events." and I have a Canon Rebel T3. Am I allowed to bring this camera to the arena, or a I not? HELP PLEASE!

Answer
As Crim previously stated, the T3 is not a professional camera, but security guards generally classify any big looking camera as "professional." They might even consider a Powershot a professional model... Just take a little point & shoot or use your cell phone

What video camera to record skateboarding with?

Lucas

Me and my friend are going to start saving up for a camera, so we can record us skateboarding. What kind of camera should we buy?

Answer
Fast action involved, stay far away from any Consumer level HD camcorder. Best camcorder for motion video like you want to shoot, is a MiniDV tape Camcorder.

Consumer level HD camcorders have 4 problems. 1) Blurry, fuzzy, out of focus areas closely around people in videos taken by consumer level HD camcorders. 2) Any movement, even a wave or lifting an arm, while in front of a recording consumer level HD camcorder, results in screen ghosts and artifacts being left on the video track, following the movement. Makes for bad video, sports videos are unwatchable. 3) These Consumer level HD camcorders all have a habit of the transferred to computer files are something you need to convert, thus losing your HD quality, to work with your editing software. 4) Mandatory maximum record times - 1 hour, 30 minutes, 8 minutes, 3 minutes – four different times advertised as maximum record time for some consumer level HD camcorders. No event I have ever been to is that short. Either take multiple camcorders or pack up with out getting the end of the event on video. Not to mention, but the computer you upload your HD files to jas to have at least a 1 GB video card and a separate Audio card that can support Direct X 9 technology, you normal every day computer has massive troubles with HD video. Consumer level HD camcorders interpolate the video. This means they take one frame, make up the next 4 or 5 frames, take a frame and repeat this, over and over, for the remainder of the video, every video it takes is like this. With a MiniDV tape camcorder, record 60 or 90 minutes ( camcorder settings), 90 seconds or less to change a tape and record for 60 or 90 more and repeat till you run out of tapes.

You can get a Canon ZR960 for $250. It is a MiniDV tape camcorder, has a MIC jack. You will need a Firewire (IEEE1394) card ($25 to 30) for the computer and a Firewire cable (less than 10) to be able to transfer video to your computer. To say this is not HD, think about this. It would cost in excess of $3500 to get a HD camcorder that could equal the video Quality of a $250 Canon MiniDV tape camcorder.

Q. I'm looking for a digital camera with HD video recording capability.
I want it to have a descent optical zoom, a minimum of 12 mega pixels and good recording capabilities at night time (and photo).
What kind of camera/make should I look for? Any suggestions?

Answer
Megapixels means nothing these days.. do you print out on A2? No? Good then you don't need more then 8 Megapixels

Right that said a good lens does matters. Good glass is so nice to have! And of course looking for image quality always important sometimes it is better to invest in a more limited model with better image quality because.. well you want the best right?

Night time recording? What is your budget? The point is that the laws of nature don't change to make a picture or a video you need LIGHT! Raising ISO' s will only get you so far..

I guess a DSLR could, it has a nice big sensor so low noise and coupled with the right lens [in your case a wide aperture prime] it would give relative noise free images and video at night. Do buy one with an external sound jack though because the in build microphones are usually pretty good at catching wind noise.

So most basic DSLR with HD video + Prime Lens + Tripod [really you are going to need it] and the basic set of memory cards and batteries. Oh and of course an external Microphone.. mmm $1100?

You know a HD video camera is cheaper.. but won't make as nice still shots ;)

What's the best budget/business user digital camera for video blogging?

I'm looking to buy a digital camera. I'm a novice at best, but want something with professional looking photos and a good video recording capability (Audio is a must also.) What are your recommendations?
I'm leaning towards the Canon PowerShot Elph 300 HS. Thanks in advance!

Answer
The Canon 300 HS is a fine choice. If you like it, then stick with it. I'd also suggest going to a nearby camera/electronic store to try out some for yourself though.

PLEASE HELP? How do i transfer videos from my VIDEO CAMERA to my COMPUTER?

Shaylin R

Okay, i have a "videoHi8" Camera, and i have videos i'd like to transfer to my computer, you know birthdays.. Vacations, New babys! Things like that! My video camera TAPES on TAPES. But it came with a "A/V OUT" Plug on the CAMERA, but it didnt come with a CORD?

Answer
You probably can't put your footage directly from the camera to the computer. Cameras that record on Hi8 tapes are old and came around before cameras were built to connect to a personal computer. I did a little searching around and found this Wiki about hi8, and it has a section about transferring hi8 to the computer. Here's the link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hi8#Transferring_8.C2.A0mm_footage_to_a_computer_for_editing

You might also want to look up the model of your camera for more specific information.

There are a couple ways to do this. One is to sync the iPhone & computer using iTunes. Another is to open the picture or video, and email it. And lastly, another way is to connect the iPhone to a windows computer without itunes, select use as camera or open files when windows recognizes it as a new device, and copy them over.

I was looking at the Shure microphones and was considering the SM57 since I am not recording piano professionally. I just want to have a nice sound to add to the video so my students can learn what they did wrong and so fourth. I just want to get a nice sound since the microphone on my video camera is of low quality. Any help will be appreciated.

Answer
If you're not going to "do" anything with the recordings other than critique students' playing, errors-and good things, fingerings, etc. there's no need to purchase an expensive mic. I don't understand why the on-camera mic doesn't pick-up the piano sounds good enough for evaluation/improvement. Move the camera closer, cropping in close on the hands/fingers?
I've done the same thing in public school teaching strictly for evaluation and quantitative analysis of numbers of errors made vs. number of correct pitches. Gives you a clear-cut way of rating/grading, with no room for "I didn't play that BAD!" Let's listen/look at the video-tape....
Good Luck!

Well, you don't say what kind of budget your have but, you want high quality so, start with this article - http://www.videomaker.com/article/8243/ - Now, that you understand a little about what's involved, here is one of the least expensive high quality cameras. The average price if a high qualtiy camera is around $10,000.

However, for recording live sound, if you want the highest quality, you need to record it with Pro Tools recording software directly off the mixer that the band plays through and you then need to sync your video with the Pro Tools audio using Pro Tools.

I am looking for a good shockproof, waterproof, dust proof digital camera and don't know which is best?

Matt W

I have looked at the Panasonic TS2, Sony TX5, and Olympus Stylus Rough 8010. Which one is the better of the three? Is there any other camera that I should look into?

Answer
Hello,
All three of them are considered to be good cameras. It all depends on what exactly you expect or want from it.
Sony TX5 is waterproof to 10 ft, when Panasonic TS2 and Olympus Rough 8010 are both waterproof to 33ft. And Sony TX5 has got the lowest resolution from these three. It's just 10.2 megapixels. Panasonic and Olympus have a resolution of 14MP, which is quite a great difference.
All cameras are shock-, dust-, sand- and freeze-proof. But Olympus 8010 is also a crushproof and designed to withstand a weight up to 220 pounds.
Sony TX5 gives you the opportunity to capture panoramic pictures with it's Sweep Panorama feature. Your images are automatically stitched together, which gives you the extra-wide view of the scenery.
Olympus 8010 has got the panoramic shooting option too. It also comes with a built-in 2GB memory, which is more than most cameras available on the market.
Panasonic TS2 has a good quality video recording. Although all these cameras record video in HD format. But Panasonic TS2 seems to be the most expensive out of them.
But if you do not need waterproof camera right now, Sony are releasing a new Sony Cyber-shot DSC-TX10 in March/April 2011. It will have a resolution of impressing 16.2 megapixels. And it is going to be the first waterproof camera that can capture 3D still images.

I currently have a Sony Mini DV camera that shoots good enough video when shooting my band, but the sound sucks. My Sony point & shoot digital camera sounds better. I want a small camera with a good size hard drive that records really good sound for loud live rock & roll. Any ideas?

How do I choose a family camcorder (video camera)?

best video camera for recording football image

PP

I don't know much about them and the info out there doesn't really break it down from the basics to the advanced. All I know is what they have at the local stores. How do I choose a good family video camera? Of course budget is a factor, but remove that and tell me what to look for/where to look/how to differentiate.

Answer
DVD camcorders are never a good choice! Since it's a family camcorder I'll make a couple of assumptions - you'll want to keep the video for a long time and it needs to be fairly robust. Look for an entry level MiniDV camcorder - they record to tapes which can be kept for years and, while you can't use them as footballs, they're able to stand some rough treatment. Don't get too hung up on the specs - get something that feels right, with the controls where you expect to find them, and that's within your budget. Don't bother about how much optical zoom a camcorder's got - they're all adequate, and ignore digital zoom completely. I'd avoid camcorders with touch screen controls (sticky fingers!) and look for something with a viewfinder so it's easier to use in bright sunlight.

You'll see a lot of (usually cheap) camcorders that record to memory cards. These are great for recording a few minutes of the kids playing and then watching the results straight away - they're not so good for the long term, though.

90% of the video that's shot is crap! That's not me being snotty, it's a law of nature (you should see MY 90%)! If you want something that people will watch more than once you'll need to edit it. You'll need to capture the video via firewire - if your PC hasn't already got one you'll need to install a firewire card. They're cheap, easy to install and readily available. You'll also need a firewire cable. You can then edit the video using Windows Movie Maker.

How do I record with a video camera and watch at the same time?

Jason J

I coach football and I would like to hook a camera up to a laptop to allow me to re-watch plays while someone next to me continues to record the game. Is there any software of hook-up that would allow me to do that?

Answer
Video servers of the type used in broadcast television stations sometimes have the "playback while still recording" option. Not laptop class equipment. try google to get vendors for video servers.

Bridge Camera vs. dSLR?

best slr camera for video recording 2011 image

12345

I am deciding on whether to get the Panasonic DMC-FZ150 Bridge Camera or a budget entry-level dSLR. I'm more inclined to get the FZ150 because. while it doesn't have a huge enough sensor to be an SLR, it certainly is on a whole different level than a point and shoot camera (it has full control over PSAM, iso, and manual focus.) While an SLR would of course have these same (or better) options of manual control, what the FZ150 has over the SLR is it can shoot up to 60 pictures in one second at 5MP in its fastest burst shooting (which would be very helpful for shooting fast-paced action.) It also has the 24x zoom (expandable to 50x with a drop in resolution, while preserving quality.) This is something you can not have on an SLR unless you pay $9,000+ on a 600mm lens. Also, it can record 1080p video at 60 frames per second (in addition to a 220fps mode at QVGA res), which would be very hard to find on a budget SLR. On the other hand, an SLR would take better quality pictures in low light due to its larger sensor. However, I currently use my phone with it's tiny sensor as my primary camera and I can take amazingly sharp and professional-looking pictures with it (posted down below), so I can just imagine what I can do with something like a bridge camera with a relatively larger sensor. Like the saying goes, "it's not the camera, but the person who is holding it."
Tell me what you think. Do you think a bridge camera would be able to take good-looking pictures comparable to an SLR (in bright light)?

Answer
The iPhone 4S, hands down.

It has a truly excellent camera. (Example short film: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PQSxP6A5f5w ). You'll never need to carry around a separate digital camera again (unless you're a real photographer and you want to carry an SLR).

It's got Siri, a widely-joked about, but incredibly powerful personal assistant software and voice-to-text option. This means you can reply to texts and emails by telling your phone what you want to say, especially handy when driving, or in other situations where you don't feel like typing out a reply, particularly a long one.

It can also parse language incredibly well, so there are loads of things you can tell/ask it to do that can save a lot of time, like set reminders or make appointments. The most ridiculous and cool example of this for me is this: whenever I visit my mother, as I'm leaving she'll always ask me to call her when I get back home, for my safety and her peace of mind. I almost never remembered to do this on my own. But with the iPhone 4s, I can literally just tell Siri, "remind me to call mom when I get home." And it will literally do that: because of its GPS functionality, when I pull into my apartment complex, it will remind me to call my mother, thus saving me an earful later. Obviously there are countless other applications for this, but this was a personal one that I thought would serve as a fine example.

It's very fast, for browsing, videos, games, and just usage in general.

Since the initial problems have been patched, it gets excellent battery life; easily a full work/school day for anyone's use.

It comes linked into a great software, music, TV, movie, and book ecosystem, so when you buy an app, game, song, and so on, you get to keep using it on future devices; if you have family members with iPhones, you can share and only buy things once. Same goes for if you might ever want an iPad in the future. None of your stuff will go to waste. I still play games I bought four years ago when the iPhone first came out, and will continue to have them for years to come, and the majority of them will keep getting updates as well.

Apple is great about software updates for all its phones. The now nearly 3-year-old iPhone 3Gs is still, to this day, on the very newest version of iOS, just like the iPhone 4 and iPhone 4s. You're never going to get that kind of support out of an Android or Windows Phone manufacturer. (Here's a look at the terrible record of Android manufacturers updating their phones for their customers: http://androidandme.com/2011/10/news/new-chart-visualizes-android-fragmentation/ )

The iPhone comes free with an iCloud account, which means you can sync your contacts, your calendars, your email, and a host of other information between iPhones, iPods, iPads, your PC, and the cloud. It also comes free with a "find my iPhone" feature, which works like Lo-Jack, so you can find your iPhone if god forbid it's ever stolen or lost. You can even use it to lock or wipe the phone remotely, to protect your personal information and data. And again, that feature is absolutely free.

The iPhone 4s is thin, but substantially built. Surprisingly difficult to break. I worked at a place that repaired and replaced phone screens for almost a year, and almost none of them were ever an iPhone 4 or 4s (though there were plenty of 3G and 3Gs, as they had weaker glass). None of that creaky, cheap plasticky stuff here.

It has an incredible screen: so sharp, nearly as many pixels as a laptop screen in a 3.5-inch package. This is especially useful when you're reading text for emails, or taking photos or videos.

Finally, there is a gigantic economy of accessories for the iPhone 4 and 4s, everything from cases to styluses to extra emergency batteries to headsets to headphones to speaker docks and a host of other crazy things.

I highly, highly recommend this phone. The only reason I would consider anything else is if you just didn't have the money, or if you wanted to wait for the next iPhone, which will probably be out in September or so.

Anyway, good luck with your decision. That's my wholehearted recommendation.

What is a good compact camera for recording high-volume, high-definition audio/video?

S3NT13NT_G

Hello everybody. Here is the problem I'm having:

I am an enthusiastic concert attendee, and I go to a lot of Metal shows. I also like to record parts of the shows I go to, so I can go back and re-live the experience later. But these shows are LOUD! Around 115-130 decibels, to be more specific. And at that kind of high volume, most camera microphones are overloaded and the resulting videos have sound that is distorted, scratchy, and unlistenable.

What I have tried already:

I have owned a Fujifilm JV-100 in the past, and I currently own a Canon SX-260 HS and neither of these have decent audio. My fiancée's old Sony Cybershot DSC-W50, on the other hand, has great sound quality. The only issue with that is that it's ancient, shoots poor quality photos, and doesn't have full-HD video capability. I'm also not sure if the newer models of Sony Cybershots have the same quality of internal microphone and when I asked a sales representative about this and she was unable to give me an answer.

Limitations:

Using an actual camcorder is out of the question, as is buying an expensive digital SLR. It must be a compact, point-and-shoot camera because otherwise the event staff/venue security deem it a "professional device" and will not allow it inside the concert venues without a press pass, which I obviously do not have. I also cannot use a separate audio recording device, because it is impractical and I need the convenience of all the components (camera, video recorder, audio recorder) in one single device.

What I need:

Simply put, I need a compact, point-and-shoot camera that is capable of shooting in low-light settings, that is capable of recording HD video, and has an internal microphone that doesn't fuzz out at high volumes. I also need it on a budget, which is less than $400.

Please offer me some suggestions for what model camera I should look into buying. I'm tired of wasting my money on cameras that don't work under the rigorous conditions I have described. If there are other metalheads out there who've had the same problem, I'd really appreciate it if you could give me your recommendations. Thanks in advance.

i want a camera that i can use to record videos with but still acts like a SLR camera..any suggestions? is the canon sx110 a good choice for this? is there any other camera?

Answer
If you are really on a very tight budget and want the best quality for the money, check out the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ28 which is reviewed at:

http://www.steves-digicams.com/2008_reviews/panasonic_fz28.html

It just came out on November 4, 2008.

It's an all-in-one 10.1 megapixel DSLR camera which includes (i) built-in image stabilization; (ii) HDTV quality video [Quicktime]; (iii) a 18x zoom [27 - 486 mm (35mm equiv.)] "Leica" lense for nature photography; (iv) up to 0.39 inch macro option; (v) up to 6400 ASA; (vi) takes up to 380 pictures per 120 min. battery charge; (vii) has a "burst speed" of 13 fps; and sells new for $270 at amazon.com.

Here's an actual handheld picture of the moon:

which is more telling, a mirror, a camera or a video recording ?

I've seen all three of myself, in the mirror, on camera and on a video recording. I find myself to be the best looking in a mirror. I can handle the way I look in the mirror, but especially in pictures
I think I look ugly. So which more telling, the camera or the mirror or the video recording ?

Answer
Actually, your image in the mirror is seen in reverse. That is the way you see yourself most often and the way you think you look. The still photo or video is the way you do look. The video recording contains the most information and would be the most telling.

What makes a flip video recorder better than a digital camera that records in HD?

I decided on getting one of the Panasonic digital cameras that record in HD instead of getting the flip. I don't understand why the flip is more expensive than the panasonic f3 for example. The video quality is the same and the flip doesn't take high quality pictures the way the panasonic does.
@fhotoace That's what I thought. I'm glad I did research and found a digital camera that records in HD instead of wasting money on the flip.

Answer
What makes a flip video recorder better than a digital camera that records in HD?
- Nothing. It's way much more inferior than most HD capable digital still cameras. It's a marketing strategy. There's no law preventing you from raising the value of your product as you see fit.

Is there a point and shoot digital camera with optical zoom while recording a video?

aimee13714

Is there a good quality point and shoot digital camera that allows for optical zoom while recording a video? Not digital zoom, which just crops the frame you already have and makes the video blurry and undefined, but optical zoom, which actually zooms into what ever you're looking at without the blurriness of the digital zoom. Thanks so much for your help :)
Is there a camera with all of the qualities above that is compact. For example, a camera that could fit in a jacket pocket.

Answer
you can consider buying Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ35 12.1MP Digital Camera

# 18x optical zoom with POWER O.I.S.

Does HD video on a regular digital camera compare to a Flip camera?

I don't want to lug around a still camera and a pocket HD video camera. Is the video recording on the new digital point & shoots comparable to the Flip and it's competitors, or is a dedicated video camera better?

Answer
the video quality of most digital point and shoot cameras is about equivilent to the quality of the flip video. it may be even better if the digital camera will shoot HD Video (720 or 1080)
Neither of these will compare to the quality of the better traditional video camera's which are available today.
Another thing you may want to consider is a Digital SLR which has HD Video shooting, such as the Canon T1i or T21 or the Nikon D5000.
These will take video that is superior to anything but professional HD video cameras, for a very reasonable price.
The user interface will take some getting used to, since the camera won't auto focus while shooting, and the zoom function will be performed by rotating the zoom dial on the lens, but I can attest that the video quality is supurb.

How to import my HD video to Windows Movie Maker?

I have a HD video recorded by my camera, I just want to edit it, but I can not import it to WMM, please help me? Thank you!

Answer
I recommend you a HD Video Converter which can convert HD TS, HD MTS, HD M2TS, HD MPEG, HD WMV, HD MPG, HD MP4, QuickTime HD MOV, HD H.264, HD RM video, etc.

It also can edit the HD movies, such as CUT a video clip, crop the movie, merge several files into one file and so on.

Hope it helps!
